Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 22 – The Weak

Having analysed those sides with the strongest upcoming schedules over the next four to six Gameweeks, we now check out those with tougher fixtures to follow. Aston Villa and Leicester brace themselves for some hard times ahead, whilst Man City and Liverpool are also set for a testing run of matches.

Leicester

“frisking

Nigel Pearson’s side have home clashes with Stoke and Palace in the next three Gameweeks to continue the form that has harvested seven points and a pair of clean sheets in their last three league outings.

Unfortunately for the Foxes, they also go head-to-head with Man United, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in the upcoming six rounds of fixtures, suggesting Fantasy points could be few and far between. With three-goal Jeffrey Schlupp injured, Marcin Wasilewski’s 3.9 price tag enhances his appeal as a cheap fifth defender, and with Riyad Mahrez still off on international duties, only David Nugent – with a goal and assist in the last three – has shown any signs of form.

Liverpool

“frisking

A trip to struggling Villa offers hope for the Reds this weekend, but beyond that one, they square up to four of the current top seven (WHM, TOT, sot, MCI) and also face a Merseyside derby trip to Everton.

At the back, Martin Skrtel has earned bonus each time his side have delivered a clean sheet, though the big centre-half may have to rely on his aerial threat in the box to remain in consideration. The imminent return of Daniel Sturridge could provide the spark that reignites our interest in Brendan Rodgers’ main men, though in the meantime, Raheem Sterling – back after a weekend rest – and Philippe Coutinho, with returns in four of his last five, are the likeliest to deliver for the ever-improving Reds, who have dropped just two points in the last four Gameweeks.

Manchester City

“frisking

City’s next two fixtures play a significant part in their place in this week’s article. Nonetheless, having hammered Arsenal 6-3 at the Etihad last season, those holding the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva will have little fear ahead of this weekend’s match, though there’s no denying the trip to Stamford Bridge somewhat curbs our enthusiasm.

Trips to Liverpool and Stoke – the latter having merged victorious at the Etihad earlier in the campaign – could throw a spanner in the works, though our fears are perhaps more focused on the City defence here. Whilst Aguero has shown his fixture-proof potential time and again, a defence that has conceded twice to both Burnley and Sunderland in the last three matches hardly instils much confidence. Vincent Kompany’s return could boost the points of potential of Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy, though – City shipped just one goal in the last four with their captain on board.

Also Be Wary Of….

Swansea
With Wilfried Bony now finally off to City, Garry Monk faces a tough task in addressing a run of form which has seen the Welsh club score more than a single goal in just one of the last ten Gameweeks.

Swansea go head-to-head with Chelsea and Southampton’s resilient defences in the next two and then face Sunderland, West Brom and United’s stubborn rearguards. Few will be willing to gamble on Bafetimbi Gomis right now, in spite of his kind 6.5 price tag, whilst Monk’s recent admission that Gylfi Sigurdsson has been playing through the pain barrier with a foot problem is not what the playmaker’s owners want to hear. At the back, it’s worth noting that all eight of Swansea’s clean sheets have arrived against clubs in the bottom nine, suggesting that invetment in the likes of Lukasz Fabianksi and Neil Taylor should be left alone for now.

West Ham
Big Sam’s side have just two favourable fixtures in the next eight Gameweeks as the schedule continues to turn against them. Those holding Hammers players will be looking for returns at home to Hull this weekend, but following that one, only the visit of Palace in Gameweek 27 (liv, MUN, sot, tot, CPL, CHE, ars) offers some respite.

Stewart Downing sits in 25% of Fantasy Premier League sides but his owners have a real decision to make once the Tigers clash is out of the way, whilst Andy Carroll’s four goals and an assist in the last seven may not be enough to convince. At the back, Allardyce’s outfit have mustered just one clean sheet in the last eight and it’s fair to say that the appeal of Aaron Cresswell and co. looks limited right now.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert’s side approach a testing run of fixtures in dire form after scoring just one goal in their last six fixtures. Villa will be hoping new playmaker Carles Gil can spark the struggling Christian Benteke back into form after a series of poor displays, though with back-to-back showdowns against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea immediately on the cards, there’s little hope of returns at either end of the pitch.

The Midlands side also travel to Hull and Newcastle and play host to Stoke over the next six matches, though it’s mainly their defence that’s likely to benefit here. Villa haven’t conceded more than a single goal since Gameweek 10, though have frustratingly earned just three clean sheets in the 11 matches over that period. Brad Guzan’s save points and Alan Hutton’s 4.4 price tag are the main attractions, though their appeal is somewhat lessened by a knee injury to Ron Vlaar, which could keep the centre-half on the sidelines for six weeks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Best option this week?

A: Hutton (LIV), Chadli (SUN), Aguero (ARS)
B: Clyne (new), ADM (qpr), Rooney (qpr)

Not crazy at all, there aren't that many stand out options this week but along with Kane and possibly Aguero, I'd imagine he'll get quite a bit of armband action.

I have only Kane that stands out with both... Aguero not fit for 90min vs ARS, CHE duo away to SWA (better def)... So its between Di Maria and Kane, with RVP out of squad i can see him playing in attack again...

Playing hil up front was no success, guess the chance for him to score more is bigger in his regular role. Wouldn't take the chance on him as he didn't seem to be match fit yet.

When the news first broke out about Bony to City, there was a lot of negativity on this site, regarding Bony's fantasy football prospects.Today, the perception is quite the opposite. Any reason why there's such a change in opinion?

People generalise Bony so much. He is brilliant. It won't affect Aguero's output, it'll make Aguero better.

Sorry for posting this again but wanted to know peoples thought? Is it a naive WC team?

    Panti/Hamer
    Bertrand/Clyne/Wisdom/Baird/3.9
    Sanchez/Fab/Haz/Chadli/Boyd
    Costa/Aguero/Kane

Any changes I can make? I could downgrade Chadli to Puncheon and use that 1 mil to upgrade a defender.

Obviously if I did Costa>Aguero my WC team would look very different but there arent any other premium midfielders that are appealing to me at the moment. I think Southampton double defence could work well. If Baird is nailed on I'd probably transfer Wisdom out the upcoming weeks.

Football sayings that grind my gears:

    1. 'The final third'. What about the attacking half, there is after all a halfway line but no 1/3 line I'm aware of.

    2. 'Box to box'. What about energetic, combative or ground covering midfielder?

    3. 'Stonewaller'. This one has come fromnowfrom nowhere and is an affront to common sense.

    4. 'Beans'. Ok the reference is beans on toast or post. I'll let this one slide.

    5. 'Different gravy'. Gravy, or indeed any other condoments, has nothing to do with Football.

    Any others?

Danger doesn't really start when you get past the halfway line but instead in the final third

In fact, the final third is quite arbitrarily drawn line for statistics and there's a good argument it's the wrong one. The attacking half is a correction to the wrong direction, however.

Anything Andy Townsend says. My atheism is in doubt now that he is leaving ITV. "In and around the penalty spot" is particularly annoying (how can you be in the penalty spot?). I also hate the common pluralisation of everything - "your Gerrards, your Rooneys" etc. Why not just say "Gerrard and Rooney"?

Not really a phrase, but Jamie Redknapp saying "literally" when he does not mean literally.

I actually wrote a blog about the low standard of commentary/punditry during the World Cup:

As it became a bit contentious....Early season Wilfried Bony played a deeper role than at the end of last season and acted as playmaker rather than striker....much to Evs, and other FPL manager's annoyance, he was a bad pick due to it for a few weeks....and it's still a role that he has played from time to time, although he now plays more often as his normal striker role.

This is the best example this season of just how deep he has played at times...It doesn't mean he can't score but you simply can't get this avg position playing as an out and out striker...you just can't.

Okay I've been stuck on this draft for 2 days now. So I guess that's a good thing?

    Foster
Baines Terry Clyne | PvA Baird
Hazard Sanchez ADM Chadli | Boyd
    Kun Kane Austin

    1m ITB.

Baines and Chadli are 2 weeks punt,
will be switching to Bertrand / Kompany + Walcott / Cesc by then.

    Few 'dilemmas'
    1. 2 week punt Baines Chadli or directly Bertrand Cesc / Silva?
    2. ADM or Silva or Cesc?

      1. I don't believe in the Baines punt
      2. why not make ADM your second punt ?

and in two weeks see which pair you like most: Fab/Cesc, Fab/Silva, Fab/ADM, Cesc/Silva, Cesc/ADM, Silva/ADM..

get a grav mate. people seem to discriminate those without one.

Kun, Haz, Sanchez and Chelsea defence would be my essentials btw

Sanchez, Hazard & Aguero seem to be the consensus. The rest is up for debate. People generally don't like the word "essential" here, probably why you got lols. Just ignore them 🙂

Yeah i'm new i don't mind anyway was just wondering what other people thought, thanks though, those 3 seem like good picks, would be a bit mad not to pick them with the wc 🙂

WC-draft, will press button after next weekend
    Forster Hamer
    Terry Bertrand Clichy Jones PVA
    Hazard Sanchez Silva Chadli Boyd
    Aguero Austin Kane
1m itm and have some options like Silva->Fab or ADM depending on form
    OK I'm a MU-fan and thinking of 1 MU-player, maybe ADM later

    A) This looks fine
    B) ManU defender, good luck with that...
    C) Upgrade Chadli to ADM or Fab and downgrade Clichy and Jones
    D) Get Costa for Austin and downgrade a lot...

So are many wildcarders keeping costa?

Or ahipping to have 4 big hitters in midfield?

I think this is the toughest decision this season.

    Costa and downing/Siggy

    Or

    Austin / fab

Is it time to bring in Aguero yet, i did put RvP into my squad for straight swap when fit but Rvp price gone down and Aguero gone up so that did not workout so now i will have to do the move over two gw's, should i start now ready for return on the 31st Jan

Well you need to dump RVP as he's injured this week. Maybe give rooney a run, although he could be back in midfield for the leicester game. Otherwise just take a hit and get Kun now.

Best way to get Aguero into this team? 0.2 short with straight swap for RvP should i down grade Trippier?
