Injuries

Sanchez Ruled out of North London Derby

In his Thursday lunchtime press conference, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss Saturday’s trip to Tottenham with the hamstring injury that forced him out of last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.

Discussing the injury situation, the Gunners boss admitted the Chilean could be in contention for the plum home clash against Leicester, however – which takes place just three days after their trip to White Hart Lane:

“The latest is that Alexis is not ready. He is not far away, the Leicester game is a possibility. He is of course very difficult to keep quiet! He is training but it’s light training.”

Sanchez has tumbled 0.2 in price in the FPL game this week and now sits at 11.3 – given that winter wildcards are still in play, today’s news will spark a further exodus. With Santi Cazorla in such fine form and with both Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott bagging a goal apiece against Paul Lambert’s side, there are no shortage of options available for Fantasy managers to consider in Wenger’s midfield right now.

The Arsenal boss also confirmed that Danny Welbeck is available for selection and with the schedule picking up pace, he clearly doesn’t have to rush his star player back into action. If Sanchez is fit for midweek, though, those who choose to sell face an uncomfortable Tuesday evening’s viewing if his manager choose to unleash him against the league’s third worst defence – his last seven appearances at the Emirates have garnered 78 points, with returns of 13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10 and 19 points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Got a Downing sitting in midfield and thought an upgrade to Oscar was the way forward (Silva preferred but not enough £££).

Now this Sanchez bloke is crocked it changes things. I could do Sanchez to Silva and/or Downing to Oscar (1FT so -4 if I do both). Keeping Sanchez would mean a midfield of Haz, Puncheon, Carzorla, Downing this week. Not bad but really want to shift Downing.

Have enough money to upgrade either of Silva or Carzorla back to Sanchez when he is back so thats no issue.

    Thoughts anyone? Cheers

Seems right this week but when Sanchez is deemed fit for Leicester we'll regret it. Especially since Oscar misses GW27. Still, it could be a nice punt. I'm indifferent at the moment. Probably playing Jones off the bench.

as I just replied to Granville

Maybe Walcott starting to get back to full fitness will help in that regard, as Wenger has someone else with pace he can play wide right to ease Sanchez back in

Downing pre Carroll: 11 games, 2 goals, 4 assists
Downing after Carroll: 11 games, 3 goals, 3 assists
Its not terrifying. Still, im getting rid of Downing on my WC. Cant see West Ham keeping it up through the season, and with the fixs coming up its a fairly easy choice (even with limtied good options in the price range!)

Arsenal are now the talking point of the community and 2 main questions are being asked:

    1) Is it wise to keep Sanchez or is it time to cash in?
    2) Is it a good idea to triple up on Arsenal attacking players or not.

For the first question, I think whether you have too much value tied in him or not, you should keep him. For many reasons.

    a) He is the only OOP player. He plays in midfield but he has the instinct of a striker. He sometimes plays upfront too. He will keep getting goals every other game.
    b) Nailed-on-ness. He has phenomenal stamina so he will get the most minutes even when CL games kick in. If he is not burnt out, he will play. Plus he is their main man, their best player. Their match winner.
    c) Captaincy material. He is their most explosive player. Given Arsenal's fixtures, you'll want a captain from Arsenal very often. When fit, if you have to pick a captain out of Santi,Sanchez,Walcott,Giroud,Ozil, you will pick Sanchez every day of the week because he is the most likely to get you that 24+ score.
    d) Consistency. As I mentioned above, he will continue to rack up the points because he is a goal scorer. Walcott is a goal scorer but is very injury prone and back from a lengthy injury. He is still not sharp enough. Even at his best, he is not as good as Sanchez. History we have of Ozil,Giroud and Santi is that they are not consistent enough. Especially goal scoring wise. Ozil is more of an assister and is also very streaky. Giroud is more of a goal every 3 games type a player and he is also classified as a forward unlike Sanchez. Santi was never a good FPL option. He will not keep it up especially that most of his goals are penalties. Arsenal will not keep getting penalties at this rate on the long run.

For the 2nd question, my opinion is that outside of DGWs, unless the team is Madrid, Barca or Bayern, it is not a good idea to triple up on attacking players because the team won't score 4 or 5 goals every match. Even Chelsea and City can't keep it up. Most are tempted because Arsenal scored 5 goals and 4 players got double figures. This will not happen again in the season.
It is also very risky putting all your eggs in 1 basket. Most of the time the team will score 2 goals which will probably mean a blank for 1 or 2 of your 3 players. Now add to the equation that we are talking about Arsenal here, the big team most likely to disappoint, most likely to face a surprise off day, most likely to choke in a big game against the top 6. I could understand it if they were budget options like in case of Spurs for instance with Kane and Chadli (but also not for a long period of time). That is not the case with Arsenal. 3 Arsenal attacking players means 25-30% of your budget. An off-day will probably mean you have a very bad GW.

Malouda Drogba Lampard won't happen again. Arsenal don't have that consistency and their players are not as good as Lamps and Drogba at their prime. The liverpool trio mm maybe SAS but I doubt many had Gerrard with them.

Totally different. Costa doesn't get BAPs whereas sanchez is a magnet. Also Sanchez is a MIDFIELDER. Huge point being neglected here. Sanchez is a midfielder who can get you 20+ goals a season.

Arsenal have great fixtures coming up in the next 6. I don't care if I have a very bad week if the other 5 out of 6 weeks are good.

The reason I wouldn't want 3 Arsenal attackers is game time being split between the mids.

i think that most sanchez sellers are doing so with the intention of buying back when he is passed fit. i imagin that it's a small minority who plan on using his temporary absence as an opportunity to downgrade to walcott/ozil/cazorla

For the 2nd question, the spreading out of points between players will happen regardless of how many of them are in your team. About the eggs and the basket, I'd say it leaves you exposed to the times when Arsenal has a bad day and you may get a triple blank, but you also get exposure to their hauls, like last round.

In my opinion, the only argument against doubling/tripling up, is the lack of flexibility it gives you. If we are talking about attacking players costing 8+, you'll probably never consider benching them anyway, so that kind of flexibility you don't need. The only drawback as I see it is thus that you need to plan ahead, so that you are not stuck with all three when the team hits a patch of tough fixtures, like Southampton before Christmas.

Man City are effectively six points behind Chelsea with the 9 goals difference.

    Hull at home

Sanchez - Silva now locked in...

OK it doesn't always go to form buy City are due a big number I think.....

So they might want to start eating into that goal difference by scoring a load against a struggling outfit like Hull at home.

    A. PVA or Boyd to score more points?

    B. Is Ozil worth (-4) over either of the above this GW only?

Boyd is history. I think even Mark sold him

He's still nailed on, that's all he's really there for. Anything else is a bonus.

        Care to answer the question?

    Anyone here??

    Can I have opinions please....

    A. Save the FT
    B. Tadic to Silva
    C. Baird to Terry/Azpill
    D. Baird to Haidara

    Krul
    Baird Clyne Schlupp(vc)
    Cazorla Tadic ADM Hazard
    Kane Giroud Aguero(c)

    Pantilli AJ Bellerin PVA

Keep Tadic this week. Move PVA to first sub in case Baird doesn't make it. Save transfer.

Worth a punt on Remy if on a WC (looking for a diff also) enough options to downgrade him after 1,2 weeks maybe?

Need help with my team any suggestions would be great!

    Krul, (Heaton)

Sanchez, Di Maria, Puncheon, Hazard (Boyd)
    Aguero (c), Kane, Giroud

Simple issue for me this week (after doing Fab to Silva)...

Berty ---> Clyne or Clichy (-4)?

The rest of my defence is: Jones - Terry - PVA - Wisdom.

My ML rival had an awful last GW, has Sanchez, Fab & Berty (having just used his final WC (woop woop)) so... I think I can afford a -4.

    Sanchezgate:

Wenger is completely ruling him out, 2 days before the match. No ifs and buts or late fitness tests.

I can't see that Sanchez will start on the following Tuesday.

One of the most challenging parts of the FPL season is not overreacting after the January WC but also recognizing that each game week is becoming a more and more precious opportunity to score points.

As a Sanchez holder, though, I think I have to sell. Every week I keep him on my bench could be a missed opportunity to load up.

You don't bench 12m. Simple as that

Right, I'm just playing with fire every week I go without another premium priced player in that spot. The under 5m bench players won't continue to get lucky returns off the bench.

On a WC, get rid of Downing losing 0.4m? Awful fixtures and no Carroll potentially?

    Done. Sanchez > Walcott (-4).

Earlier in the week, it was Chadli & Bertrand > Cazorla & Bellerin.

I got lucky last week that PvA was my sub for Sanchez, but I laud the gurus who moved to Cazorla (and captained him). I recognize that some of you had Caz even before the injury. Double kudos!
