Sanchez Ruled out of North London Derby

In his Thursday lunchtime press conference, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss Saturday’s trip to Tottenham with the hamstring injury that forced him out of last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.

Discussing the injury situation, the Gunners boss admitted the Chilean could be in contention for the plum home clash against Leicester, however – which takes place just three days after their trip to White Hart Lane:

“The latest is that Alexis is not ready. He is not far away, the Leicester game is a possibility. He is of course very difficult to keep quiet! He is training but it’s light training.”

Sanchez has tumbled 0.2 in price in the FPL game this week and now sits at 11.3 – given that winter wildcards are still in play, today’s news will spark a further exodus. With Santi Cazorla in such fine form and with both Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott bagging a goal apiece against Paul Lambert’s side, there are no shortage of options available for Fantasy managers to consider in Wenger’s midfield right now.

The Arsenal boss also confirmed that Danny Welbeck is available for selection and with the schedule picking up pace, he clearly doesn’t have to rush his star player back into action. If Sanchez is fit for midweek, though, those who choose to sell face an uncomfortable Tuesday evening’s viewing if his manager choose to unleash him against the league’s third worst defence – his last seven appearances at the Emirates have garnered 78 points, with returns of 13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10 and 19 points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    a) PVA (swa)
    b) Wisdom (bur
    c) Ward (lei)

Should I do Gerrard and Alexis to Carzola and Silva for -4? Knowing the teamsheet for the Leicester game on Tue, can bring Alexis back in then if starting.

And the Gary Neville's (who still insists), and the Paul Merson's. Sky even used to spell it Carzola on their tickers for a time. I don't get why it's so difficult!

A little left field, but thoughts on this idea?

Ditch Sanchez and start with the below front 8 and 4.4m in the bank. Then bring in whichever looks the best ARS attacking option next week, whether that be Sanchez, Giroud, Wally, Ozil etc.

Mane is a risk, but QPR are shite and he looked a real threat when he came on last week.

    Hazard, Silva, Santi, Oscar, Mane
    Aguero, Kane, Ayoze(benched)

    Bank 4.4m

Anyone with a better Sanchez sob-story?

I got rid on WC just before he got 19 pts. Then last week I took an 8pt to get him back, selling Silva who got 7pts. I have just sold him again... for Silva. He has cost me 8pts plus the lost points him and Silva got and I never even got to play him. Go me 😆

Oh, and I fell from 4k to 38k in the process 😎

Leaning towards Walcott and Ozil -- very risky as some think they'll fight for a spot but until Sanchez news is cleared up it could pay off handsomely.

Santi is the safe option because of minutes and penalties/free kicks.

I think Walcott could become the best, but I think he'll be protected a little at the w/e. Ozil is an assist king, but just not enough goal threat for me.

Walcott and Cazorla are my two choices (and they are on my team, so there is no turning back). I think Cazorla is red hot and takes pens, and Walcott is a greater goal-scoring threat than Ozil.

And one more thought, a double up of Chelsea and Arsenal midfielders also comes with the gift of additional CS points when their rapidly solidifying defenses get them.

Why keeping Sanchez might be a good idea:

-We'll know the lineups for the Arsenal v Leicester game in advance. The kickoff on February 10th is at 7:45 with the lineups at 6:45 and the deadline is at 7:30.

-If deemed fit for the Leicester game he is perfect captain material

-Even if he was fit this gameweek, it's not that easy of a fixture. Having another player in his place could be a blessing in disguise.

-He can only go down 0.1M more this week

Overall, I'm assuming many of you have decent benches considering you have recently wildcarded or are already on one. If you have a decent bench I think it's sensible to keep Sanchez.

These points represent a good conservative strategy. However, that means less fun. I would rather have Walcott on my starting team than Boyd, and am willing to risk -4 to hope that Walcott has a big game against Spurs.

As hamstring injuries are tough to shake, and could turn into tears if rushed, I am no longer comfy waiting it out.

What's the thinking with Mane as an option? Been back from ACON for a week or so now and I thought he looked a decent threat when he came on last week. Best of the SOT midfield options?

Clearly ahead of Elia in the pecking order right?

A managerless (and toothless) QPR could be in for a hiding this w/e and I'm eyeing up Mane as a potential 1 week punt before bringing in the ARS mid of choice next week.

Not clearly ahead but edges it. Impossible to tell though. They've not been around together when both are fully fit/rested.

Sanchez is just like Suarez in the sense that he wants to play every game no matter how significant . If he's passed fit for the Leicester game, he will be pestering Wenger to play him against Leicester. Suarez would carry knocks into games because he didn't want Rodgers to rest him

He's already in 'light' training. That's a great sign.

Could mean training, or could mean he is getting physio, riding the bike, etc.

Hamstring is a bit different to a knock, though. Why would Wenger risk him v Leics unless he's 100%?

Flat track bullies are like that. Be interesting to see if Alexis can overcome the Chelsea defence with their ability to double mark him.

Suarez was Liverpool last season, of course he had to play every game.
