Injuries

Sanchez Ruled out of North London Derby

In his Thursday lunchtime press conference, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss Saturday’s trip to Tottenham with the hamstring injury that forced him out of last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.

Discussing the injury situation, the Gunners boss admitted the Chilean could be in contention for the plum home clash against Leicester, however – which takes place just three days after their trip to White Hart Lane:

“The latest is that Alexis is not ready. He is not far away, the Leicester game is a possibility. He is of course very difficult to keep quiet! He is training but it’s light training.”

Sanchez has tumbled 0.2 in price in the FPL game this week and now sits at 11.3 – given that winter wildcards are still in play, today’s news will spark a further exodus. With Santi Cazorla in such fine form and with both Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott bagging a goal apiece against Paul Lambert’s side, there are no shortage of options available for Fantasy managers to consider in Wenger’s midfield right now.

The Arsenal boss also confirmed that Danny Welbeck is available for selection and with the schedule picking up pace, he clearly doesn’t have to rush his star player back into action. If Sanchez is fit for midweek, though, those who choose to sell face an uncomfortable Tuesday evening’s viewing if his manager choose to unleash him against the league’s third worst defence – his last seven appearances at the Emirates have garnered 78 points, with returns of 13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10 and 19 points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    This Gameweek
Walcott one(!) penalty area touch - one goal
Özil one(!) goal attempt - one goal.

Should I be worried for bringing them in?

I got Sanchez at 10.3. Sell him for Silva or just play Puncheon? Also got Cazorla and Giroud.

Will probably have to take a hit to get Sanchez back down the road as I also have Bertrand to deal with.

    1. Pinturicchio
      • 11 Years

      Play Puncheon.

      1. Pinturicchio
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

Just to unpack this a little bit: Puncheon has a very high probability of getting 2 points, and a moderate probability of getting more than that. Silva has a very high probability of getting 2 points, and a more than moderate probability of getting more than that. You can assign whatever reasonable percentages you like to those, but however you do it the relative scoring value of both are not radically different.

Assuming you don't have to take a hit, you're burning team value for the modest chance that Silva will outscore Puncheon for one week, and yield equivalent or better points to Sanchez over a period of time. Neither of those are sure shots, and they're probably not worth the team value, especially when you consider you're making it harder to get Sanchez again in future.

If you take a hit to get Silva, the calculus gets even worse.

        1. Pinturicchio
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 4 months ago

(One factor that would swing this decision towards being a better bet is if you plan to captain Silva this week or in the near future. If you don't, play Puncheon.)

            • 10 Years

Haha yes thanks for the feedback. Sanchez is one of the best fantasy options imo and I'm not selling him because he is out for a week or two - thats what Puncheon is there for but Silva against Hull is attractive.

All good part of the calculus. It's really a gambling probability theory analogy. I am sure Doosra's tables help a bit, but the probability of Silva (or another equivalent replacement) having a HUGE game over Puncheon (or Boyd, a common 5th mid) is the factor we are considering when burning a FT or even taking a hit to drop Sanchez.

For me, it's about playing for big points. I could lose 2 points by having taken a (-4) to move Sanchez to Walcott, but I'd rather take a risk to lose a couple of points (and save a little money) than to have sat back with my measly 2 points while watching Theo (Silva, etc.) potentially get a brace. That is not why I play this game.

I never normally take hits but I took a minus 12 last week which resulted in my first green arrow in nine weeks. Eriksen, Cazorla and Giroud all scored.

Silva this week is a no brainer to me. But Puncheon against Leicester is not a bad option.

Yeah, that's a valid way to play and certainly makes watching the games more exciting. I fully admit my choices and preferences would be boring for most.

I'd agree with 0.2 - not sure about more. I think his NTO count will be reset because of the change in flag - and it will now take more transfers out per drop - but this won't stop a drop tomorrow and there will probably be one more before Tuesday. But there will be a lot of people waiting for the teamsheets after the Saturday deadline so it'll probably be limited to 0.2.

Fine with me. Barring an injury that rules him out for a month or more, he's a season-keeper for me, so his value doesn't matter much... except that if anyone who gets rid of him now needs to get him back in, they're paying a premium to do it.

dropped for the home game vs. TOT after Lescott did ok at LB in cup win at B'ham.

not looking too good for starts, esp after they signed Ollson.

guess he'll be a utility player going forward...which is terrible news as he'll get lots of sub appearances!

If your defence and mid were like this, what would you do?

    Terry Hutton Wisdom Debuchy Bertrand
    Boyd Hazard Chadli Sanchez Fabregas

He might start this time. At least he has more chance than injured players.
