Injuries

Sanchez Ruled out of North London Derby

In his Thursday lunchtime press conference, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez will miss Saturday’s trip to Tottenham with the hamstring injury that forced him out of last weekend’s win over Aston Villa.

Discussing the injury situation, the Gunners boss admitted the Chilean could be in contention for the plum home clash against Leicester, however – which takes place just three days after their trip to White Hart Lane:

“The latest is that Alexis is not ready. He is not far away, the Leicester game is a possibility. He is of course very difficult to keep quiet! He is training but it’s light training.”

Sanchez has tumbled 0.2 in price in the FPL game this week and now sits at 11.3 – given that winter wildcards are still in play, today’s news will spark a further exodus. With Santi Cazorla in such fine form and with both Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott bagging a goal apiece against Paul Lambert’s side, there are no shortage of options available for Fantasy managers to consider in Wenger’s midfield right now.

The Arsenal boss also confirmed that Danny Welbeck is available for selection and with the schedule picking up pace, he clearly doesn’t have to rush his star player back into action. If Sanchez is fit for midweek, though, those who choose to sell face an uncomfortable Tuesday evening’s viewing if his manager choose to unleash him against the league’s third worst defence – his last seven appearances at the Emirates have garnered 78 points, with returns of 13, 16, 2, 9, 9, 10 and 19 points.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm just processing AA7's very helpful post and replies about the gw25 lineups. Makes me want to sell Sanchez for another Arsenal mid because

A- If Sanchez is starting in midweek I will know and can get him back in.
B- If Sanchez is not starting in midweek I will hopefully have the midfielder who replaces him and won't need to waste a FT getting him.

Is that logical or a bit convoluted? It's a loss of some money but that's what money is for this time of the season.

That is the way I'm leaning atm

I have Wally and and looking at going Ozil, I can then sell whichever doesn't start if Sanchez plays. If Sanchez misses out I can either save or move out Pelle

Seems reasonable to me -- Walcott and Ozil are a nice differential as well, esp as a double up.

That seems very reasonable. I hope Wenger gives us more information regarding this matter. The fact he is in 'light' training could indicate he may play against Leicester but it doesn't mean he'll start.

Got Alexis at 10.3, so hard to take him out.
I don't mind having him on the bench this week, but what would you do if he's not in the line up for Lei?
Can he start on Tue if not even making the bench on Sat?

Another way to put this. Would you drop him today if you would know he's going to miss the next 2GW (tot, LEI)?

    1. Whazza

    A case for keeping Sanchez:

If, like me, you can afford another price drop before losing any 'selling value', this mean that you will likely only lose 0.1m from your 'selling value' by the time the LEI game comes around on Tues (he can only drop another 0.1m this week and so would have to drop on Sat, Sun and Mon night, which is unlikely given the red flag, the pricing algorithm and the uncertainty on his starting role).

So, if on a WC and you got him cheap, it could be worth keeping, sucking up the likely 0.1m loss in selling value, start him on the bench this week (with a reasonable 8th attacker in his spot) and hope he gets names in the starting 11 for LEI.

Saving a transfer and starting your 8th attacker vs a 0.1m loss in selling value and a potential headache to get him back.

    Food for thought.

It's not really vs a 0.1 loss though, it's a 0.1 loss plus whatever points your replacement (Silva/Caz/Walcott/Sterling) scores, and he is unlikely to start against Leicester if he's not in the squad this match.

I sold for a FT, and can get him back for Leicester for free if he starts. Keeping him, sadly, was illogical.

        I'm still undecided. But I don't think it's a no-brainer either way.

The fact we get the teamsheets before the deadline next week is an argument to keep imo.

If you're 8th attacker has decent potential this week then I don't think keeping is the worst idea. I'm looking at Mane(qpr) or P Cisse/Ayoze(STO) as my 8th attacker so starting them and benching Sanchez doesn't feel that bad.

Then IF he is out for LEI, free transfer to whoever looks the best ARS option next week. None of the other big hitters have good fixtures this week, which is key also.

    3. Bastien
      • 11 Years

Problem is I don't have quality replacement.
Keeping him this week means starting one of Wollscheid, Baird, Cork.
      2 points at best.
I can trade for Silva FT.
      Weighing up this...

So what are people's decisions on Sanchez? I had a big feeling before the Villa game that he wouldn't make the Tottenham game, and if he's not making the Tottenham game I can see a bench place at very best for the Leicester game. Surely it's time to get rid for now, even if you did get him at 10.3-10.5?

    1. Elwood
      • 12 Years

I sold before the villa game. He is too expensive to bench and with Arsene understating things and the form of the rest of the squad it would be foolish to hold.

The only question is who to get in.
