Scout Report – Dame N’Doye

With his side having failed to score in 11 of their last 15 Premier League matches, Hull boss Steve Bruce was desperate to add some firepower in the January transfer window. Just minutes before the transfer deadline, the Tigers were able to secure the signing of Lokomotiv Moscow striker Dame N’Doye for a reported fee of £3m.

The 29-year-old Senegal international arrives at the KC on a two-and-a-half-year deal and his new manager is clearly delighted with the last-minute acquisition:

“He will undoubtedly strengthen our squad and add a significant goal threat. You don’t see much of the Russian league but I’ve seen Senegal play a few times. He’s been a member of their team for the last couple of years and for years I’ve taken notice of that Senegal team. I think a lot of managers have taken notice of the African teams. Out of all the players who have been imported, the African players have made a huge success of it. Physically, they have all the attributes to play in the Premier League. I’m delighted to have completed the signing of Dame and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action for us.”

THE HISTORY

Born in Thies, Senegal, N’Doye began his career in his homeland for Jeanne d’Arc in 2003, where he played for three seasons before signing for Qatari side Al-Sadd. A year later he moved to Portuguese team Academica de Coimbra, where he made 25 appearances, scoring four goals.

In the 2007/08 season, N’Doye plied his trade for Greek side Panathinaikos, netting three times in 23 appearances. The striker was then on the move again, scoring seven goals in 15 matches for OFI Crete before signing with Danish side FC Copenhagen in January 2009. The powerful forward enjoyed his most prolific spell in Denmark, scoring 82 goals in 150 appearances in all competitions. During the 2010/11 season, N’Doye scored twice in the Champions League group stage to help Copenhagen become the first Danish side to qualify for the last 16, where they were subsequently knocked out by Chelsea.

In the summer of 2012, N’Doye joined Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, where he settled quickly, scoring seven goals in the 2012/13 season. During his time is Russia, he scored 27 goals in 68 appearances.

N’Doye made his debut for Senegal in a friendly against Gabon in November 2010 and has clocked up 34 caps for his country, scoring nine goals. He featured in all three of Senegal’s matches in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, but failed to find the back of the net.

THE PROSPECTS

Having scoured the transfer market for a striker, Bruce will no doubt be relieved to have brought N’Doye to the club. Club record signing Abel Hernandez has found it hard to adjust to English football and after scoring three times in his first five appearances, has failed to net since Gameweek 8. Fellow forward Nikica Jelavic has found the net six times, though like Hernandez, has struggled in recent months and scored just twice since Gameweek 7.

Given that Hull have only notched 21 times – the second-worst record in the top flight – it’s clear that Bruce needs to quickly address his side’s toils in the final third. The addition of N’Doye, who is known for his aerial ability, should allow Bruce to roll out a two-man frontline on a more regular basis, either in a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2, with injuries all too often blighting his plans – the Hull manager has only been able to start Jelavic and Hernandez up front together on seven occasions.

Handed a sub appearance at the Etihad last Saturday, N’Doye could be in line to start tomorrow’s crucial home clash against Villa as Bruce looks to build on that morale-boosting draw at City. Indeed, that showdown with Paul Lambert’s side sparks the start of a superb run over the upcoming five (AVL, QPR, sto, SUN, lei), which could well define Hull’s season.

Coming in at 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, N’Doye could become an interesting prospect if he can hit the ground running and take advantage of that schedule. Certainly, there are plenty of strong options in the budget forward bracket, with Harry Kane becoming a “must have” in most people’s 15-man squads and Jermain Defoe also staking a claim, but with Danny Ings’ fixtures taking a turn for the worse and Charlie Austin injured, N’Doye may be an outside bet as a cut-price alternative in our short-term plans.

    Assuming Sanchez starts....

    Would you rather:

    1. Defoe and Sanchez

    2. Giroud and Ozil/Walcott/Cazorla (currently have the last two)

Both options appeal to me. Option 2 would be triple Arsenal. Will Defoe keep scoring?

1 for me. Will Defoe keep healthy is the bigger question, for me at least. He was good in fantasy Major League Soccer, for example, but injured too often. Made him tricky to deal with, though I did get me some good points from the lad. (I'm not comparing MLS to the Prem, by the way, but it's good competition regardless....and let's be honest....many of the Prem defenses aren't exactly water tight.) He'll score fairly well if healthy. That schedule of fixtures is fantastic.

I know, I know 😥 Your saved my arse though, I was set on Kompany and then completely forgot about your article from earlier 😯 2 BAPs in the bag though, and it feels good to have him tbh

Thanks Inns, and aye, I'm confident BR will keep delivering now with the 3421 though. Might have been premature in hindsight, but I need differentials right now and who else eh? Might do a write-up on BR's tactics and formation soon 😯

2 baps from a defender without getting a clean sheet is crazy, if Kolarov gets injured I'd be all over Clichy like a rash 🙂

Fair enough, I'd prefer it more with Mane in there over Coutinho but the little Brazilian is a nice wee differential. He's almost like a mini Fabregas, eh.

            • 9 Years

It really is, the guy created chances at will and am certain he will deliver from an offensive standpoint soon when Aguero betters his form, I hope to dear god that Kol gets injured a bit (you know, nothing serious), that would be amazing though really.

Yeah Inns, I'm stupid for not getting Mane after Pell was predicted to play 442 but it's alright in the end. May do Silva and Caz out soon. Yeah Coutinho has been central to everything Pool do up top, the amount of chances he's created is incredible. The stats are insane.

Sturridge was probably too early. Zouma didnt pay off. Silva punt didn't work.

Overall was a good team. Fair balance of punts and high ownership. Just that punts failed but hindsight is 20/20.

      1. Zasa

Verdict's still out on that tbh, we'll see later today and I'm confident one of the most in-form offense will deliver now with a fit enough Sturridge. Zouma was always a risk, and still is, but Cahill put on a bad performance vs Villa and FFS predicts him starting next game. No biggie 😀 .
Silva was always a placeholder though, albeit I should've put my money where my mouth is and gotten Mane, but it's ok. Thanks for the honest response Mag, much appreciated 😀

Hey there Zasa. New grav eh.

        Hey Nabil and thanks man

I can understand where you're coming from, but I see these fixtures as being poor from a defensive standpoint but exceptional from an offensive one. Liverpool have all the underlying stats of a team underperforming and am confident with Sturridge back, the team will better their conversion rate and realize their expected goal%

Will take this into account though, great food for thought. Aye, that's a great shout Nabil may get Mane in soon. Cheers! 😀

I know most on here expect Toby to jump straight back in starting lineup but I'm still skeptical. Yoshida was Koeman's preferred starter at the beginning of the season and the only reason Toby got playing time is because Yoshida got hurt. Obviously, he played well in his absence but I'm not entirely convinced that he is just going to get his position back.

I made pork chops. And may I say that they are quite divine. Used a new technique I read about online. Pop them in the oven at 250 degrees F until internal temp gets around 120, then toss them into a searing hot pan and go that route until you get some crisp. Enjoying with mashed taters and corn/gravy, a quality bagel, some blue cheese, and some reisling wine. Gordon Ramsey who?

Fry in the pan with butter and oil, by the way, in case you're taking notes.

Hmm, I thought it's usually pan sear first then finish in oven?

Yeah that is how I normally do pork chops. Also don't have the oven on that low, but I'm no Gordon Ramsey 😀

Ah ha! That's what you would think. This is from Bon Appetit, and they said it's the best new cooking technique that you can add to your repertoire. Basically, it helps the meat cook more evenly. Also, when you go to sear, it doesn't take long and the edges/outside don't cook so much quicker than the interior, which can result in some unfavorable circumstances. Here's the link for the article. They discuss the technique in question nearer to the end of the article.

Darnit! Wrong link. That was another article I read when researching. Here's the proper.....maybe I should cool it on the wine a little. Nah, screw that! http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/03/the-food-lab-pork-chops-blah.html

You still get to sear....just after you oven it up! 🙂 In the long run, I've gone the route you are championing before, and it's good as well. Just thought I'd share this, as I'm thoroughly enjoying my porky choppers.

    Thoughts on my team/line up?

    Panti
    Terry Jones PVA Bellerin
    Hazard (c) Silva Cazorla
    Kun (vc) Kane Giroud

    Krul Walters Boyd Wisdom

    1 Ft, 6.1 itb

    A. Silva -> Sanchez
    B. Walters -> Sanchez (who to bench then?)
    C. Save FT

Walters continues as striker even with Diouf back, and a lovely GW27 player.

Silva is a lovely GW27 player as well, though 🙂 Jon Walters is still and always will be Jon Walters. A class beneath.

Actually I disagree. Silva was useless behind a front two of Kun/Dzeko. Shunted to wing. Bony YYT coming back. The hauls of Silva as false 9 when Kun was injured are not going to be repeated. Also at 9.5 it's a sorry proposition.

I agree with that assessment in a nutshell however I'd rather have Silva over Walters even if Silva was playing at wing back 🙂 Quality shines through, but in the larger picture, having neither for the mid-long term is probably preferable.

                More accurately.

                A. Silva or
                B. Walters + 4.2 million?

4.2 million upgrades Downing to Hazard.

I'm slightly liking B more than A. You can add playing top as ST and PK duties for him, although Silva has some set piece duties in his locker too. But beware than YYT is returning.

In the end i think both picks are not the best but surely not the worst. Both have their own pros and cons.

Exactly, Walters isn't a good 4th mid to have, at all. Yet transferring Walters out offers a higher immediate reward, as it's unlikely Walters will outscore Silva in these next few. This is a simple case of low risk/high reward, IMO. Walters out is the move here for sure like Wal said.

What you said is true about Silva though Mag, but Silva is the lesser evil here

      Could be genius

The goal in this game is to correctly predict the haul, not to realize it after
Usually happens when the given player is off the radar

This is what I like to hear! I've had two captaincy successes recently with (C) players out of form and they've both worked like charms (Sanchez and Costa for their 2G,1A performances) but i'm afraid that I wont be too lucky the third time around...but then again, a world class player, at home, in a supposedly potent attack, plenty to play for and against lowly Burnley?? Its almost dreamy!

Definitely. It def won't be 0-0 again, I wouldn't be surprised if Man U netted 3-4 goals as Burnley is awwwful at defending set pieces.

The only turn off is LVG honestly. I really don't like ADM as a #10 or a striker, you can tell he is completely lost. His movements aren't natural, and its taking him just a few additional seconds to make decisions, which are costly at that level. If he was in his natural position, the left wing, where he is world-class at whipping those crosses in, it would be a no brainer.

Still it may be worth it, I say go for it, why not?
Like they say, fortune favors the brave and playing conservative is just booooring.

A little too wobbly for me that, but he could do well.

United are getting so much grief over their poor attack I don't want to riskFalcao. Can't help but feeling they are going to click and run riot some game over it soon though

Random one and apologies if this was talked about already but what was reason for Tadic being dropped and what are the chances of him starting next game?

He's been real poor of late.. would not bet on it happening
Elia/Mane/Schneiderlin/Wanyama/Pelle look nailed for 5 spots out of 6.. Fight between Davis/Jwp/Tadic for one spot.. i'd say JWP looks ahead of him atm

Good response, thanks. Will have to ship but have other priorities tonight- I do think Koeman will start him myself tonight but not going to be a reliable starter. Seems harsh his performances his returns for goals and assists are pretty strong
