Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 25

The midweek fixtures took their toll on a number of players, as we take our usual post-Gameweek look at the new injuries across the Premier League.

Arsenal
Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey were both withdrawn due to injury in Arsenal’s win over Leicester on Tuesday evening. The Chilean picked up a problem early on as a result of a challenge from Matthew Upson and lasted 68 minutes before making way, with Arsene Wenger revealing:

“Sanchez got a knock on his knee. I don’t think he was himself. From the moment he got this knock, he was never really comfortable. I was ready to take him off at half-time but he said, ‘no it’s okay, I can go on’. When I watched him play I thought, ‘No, that hasn’t [got better]’. Sometimes when you run it off it’s just a kick but he became worse and I didn’t see him in the second half. I don’t know for how long he will be out and whether he will be out or not. I haven’t seen the doctor.”

The Gunners boss also raised concerns over Ramsey, who lasted just nine minutes as a sub before being forced off. Reports have subsequently suggested the Welshman could be set for up to a month on the sidelines.

“It doesn’t look good when a guy stops straight away and sits down. I left him out [of the starting lineup] to be cautious with him. I put him on and it was not the best of decisions. I can’t say it’s not a worry because after a while, the player cannot play with a free mind. He’s not over-played. I don’t know why this is.”

Chelsea
Oscar missed last night’s win over Everton, with Jose Mourinho explaining:

“Oscar has a minor muscular problem. If we played him today, it is possible we would lose him for a few weeks”

Crystal Palace
Yaya Sanogo lasted less than half an hour of last night’s draw with Newcastle before sustaining a hamstring injury.

Leicester
In his first league start for the Foxes, Matthew Upson was replaced just before the hour mark as a precaution, according to the Foxes website.

Liverpool
The Reds’ assistant boss Colin Pascoe had plenty to discuss during this morning’s press conference. Pascoe revealed the club are awaiting news on the injury that forced Steven Gerrard off against Spurs on Tuesday night:

“Unfortunately, he felt his hamstring just towards the end of the game. He’s having a scan this morning and we’re just waiting for the results to come back on that one.

Pascoe also confirmed Raheem Sterling is being monitored ahead of the weekend cup encounter with Palace, before going on to discuss Daniel Sturridge’s current levels of fitness after months on the sidelines through injury:

“He’s desperate to play 90 minutes. He didn’t want to come off. We knew up to 70 minutes was his maximum. Anything more than that then you’re overstepping it and he could pull a muscle. It’s a progression with Daniel – we can’t push him too much at the moment. We’ll monitor him and see how he is and how he’s training. He’s recovering at the moment. He’s feeling great and he’s feeling well. We’ll have to talk to the sports scientists, but we don’t want to push him; we don’t want to break him. But he’s not far off 90 minutes.””

Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini revealed the reasons for subbing off Sergio Aguero with 18 minutes remaining of last night’s win over Stoke:

“He felt something in the back. My feeling is it is not too serious and he now has 10 days to recover and train well. I hope he will be fit to face Newcastle.”

Aguero, though, played down any fears and tweeted post-match:

“For the ones asking I’m ok. I stepped out only for precaution. Now let’s keep on working for the very important upcoming commitments.”

Man United
Phil Jones and Daley Blind were both forced off during last night’s win over Burnley. The Dutchman sustained a head knock and tried to play on with an eye injury before eventually making way for Ander Herrera – post-match, Louis van Gaal revealed to MUTV:

“I think, for Jones, we have to wait and see. I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it’s a knee problem so it’s not good. Blind has a headache but I don’t think he is out of the game on Monday [in the FA Cup against Preston North End].”

Newcastle
Siem de Jong is set for another period on the sidelines after suffering a collapsed lung – the second time in the last 18 months their summer signing has been hospitalised with the problem. Local reports earlier this afternoon confirmed Paul Dummett will be assessed after picking up a knee knock during last night’s draw at Palace.

QPR
The Loftus Road outfit were dealt a bitter blow after Leroy Fer – who was amongst the goals in Tuesday’s win at Sunderland – was subsequently ruled out for up to ten weeks with knee ligament damage.

Stoke
Jon Walters missed last night’s home loss to City due to an ongoing knee problem.

West Ham
Andy Carroll is set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury in last night’s clash with Southampton. The forward left St Mary’s on crutches, with his manager revealing post-match:

“The sad thing for us is the injury to Andy Carroll which we can ill-afford to take with our injury problems. It’s the same knee. He got kicked on the back of it and felt something was wrong. He stayed up and was a nuisance but I just hope that staying on hasn’t done any damage. He got fit in two-and-a-half weeks but clearly it’s going to take longer this time because it’s the same injury.”

Big Sam is also hoping Mark Noble can recover from the virus that forced him to miss the goalless draw.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Ivanovich faces no action

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic will face no further action over the incident with Everton midfielder James McCarthy, during Wednesday's Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.

Yeah. I mean not really barring set pieces. They seemed to be throwing the kitchen sink at West Ham towards the end of the game but he did come quite close from picking up an attacking return on a few occasions from what I saw from the highlights. Now he'll get them on all of our benches when they face Liverpool next GW 🙂

    Who to captain next week?

Thinking hazard but Kane can't stop scoring. Aguero has Newcastle at home too

Aguero's two goals last night sealed it for me.

Kane has 5 double digit hauls, Aguero has 4.

              Didn't say Kane can't explode.

But it's my opinion that Aguero is more likely to.

Only my opinion, you must understand 🙂

Influenced by City being better than Spurs, West Ham being better than Newcastle, and historical explosions from Kun.

                  ha! Good point well made.

Although what you said about Europe is nagging me now.

                  Hmm.

Might wait to see the Spurs line up in the Europa. Kane won't play, but the people supplying his goals might.

Looking at a similar type of game, when Chelsea played Newcastle at home, Chelsea won 2-0.

Hazard had ZERO shots and only created 1 chance. (10 yard pass to a player who had a long shot)

He is great to own, but I don't trust him with captaincy.

Whereas Aguero has CL midweek, and Bony returning, so perhaps 70 minutes at best, which is always bad for BAPS, and Newcastle are a hard working team.

      So Kane. 🙂

What's your highest ever Gameweek rank?

I track mine back to GW36 of 2012-13 with a GW rank of 411

That was an epic bumper double gameweek with Chelsea, Man C and Spurs amongst others having two fixtures. Double City defence and their two clean sheets served me well

I got a gwk rank of 1,357 in the Southampton week (gwk8). I think that's pretty much the highest I've ever got in seven seasons.

I keep saying how I've never known a more season changing week than that. You getting 7th shows how it was one of those weeks where most general players did badly, and many of the community did well (eg Tadic, Pelle and Aguero (c))

          • 10 Years

It was a season defining week for me and, to be honest, the only reason I am ahead in my ML and in the top 1k. If I would have got a "normal" score that week, I would be in 3rd/4th spot in my ML.

I think I'll always remember that gameweek. You deserved to be insuferable...it was a victory for stats and research that week with all the players with good underlying stats all coming good in that week. No surprise to see so many members do well.

take screen shots of your GW history at the end of each season, keeping it archived for when you're in need of a bit of FPL nostalgia

Just that Aguero is prone to injury, Sanchez keeps pace with him nearly - Ivan makes up for it. Basically I love Ivanovic.

He is their best scorer, but he has fitness issues which means he will rarely see 90 mins.

Ayoze has better hold up play, and better movement, but it seems Carver looks to be playing 2 up front now, which is positive.

I personally wouldn't take the risk.

would do only if you are going to do two transfers this week to upgrade someone with the extra funds. otherwise, you can find more pressing issues in most teams, if not save transfer

might throw Hull's Brady in there if he's starting again for only 4.5, is he still nailed on for pens? would free up much needed funds for later

good shout, I imagine he should keep his run of starts going after his recent goals.

Walters could be the nice also if he's healthy.Really depends on who is going to be most nailed on

Need to get Bojan out.But whom to get ?

    A) Berahino (Have form & fixtures)

    B) Jelavic/N'Doye (Good Fixtures)

    C) Cisse (Fixtures aren't great)

    D) Ings (Fixtures are horrible)

I'm liking Berahino out of those choices, could also consider Naismith (very good fixtures, better team?) might be sneaky and cheap as dust

Anyone any thoughts on how best to plan for gameweek 27 & 28, with 2 FT 0.7 in the bank and wildcard still available.

    Foster Hamer
    Terry Clyne PVA Hutton Wisdom
    Hazard Sanchez Walcott Silva Boyd
    Aguero Giroud Kane

I was thinking along the lines of:
Wisdom to Haidera for GW 26
Terry and Giroud to Wollscheid and Strurridge for GW 27
And wildcard for GW 28, getting Terry, Costa, Erikson and a spurs def. (assuming Chelsea and Spurs have a double and Costa doesnt pick up yellow cards)
    Anything else standing out?

    Krul Elliot
    Zouma Bellerin PVA Clyne Wisdom
    Hazard Sanchez Walcott Silva Moses
    Aguero Defoe Kane

Wish I had picked Ozil rather than Wally at 7.29pm and 59 seconds !

    Silva to YAYA ?

would probably save or focus on getting Wisdom out of there. Yaya is a bit overpriced considering he isn't taking pens, could be a big differential though! seems sideways at best though, Silva has looked great

    Tactics.

If Villa beat Leicester and we hear of a double for Chelsea before the next gameweek, what are people planning? I may not worry too much about fielding XI in 27 if so.. The Burnley fixure would be hard to ignore getting three Chelsea in, even with a blank in 27, if they had a double in 28 as well.

      Sterling >>> Mané (This GW)

      Wisdom >>> Wollscheid
      Oscar >>> ADM
      (GW27 blanks)

      ADM >>> Eriksen
      Clyne >>> 4.8 defender
      Giroud >>> Costa

      That´s my plan, maybe.

    Clyne - 6.0 2 goals, 1 assist - 13 BAPs
    Berty, 5.7 2 goals, 2 assists - 8 BAPs
    Fonte - 5.8 0 goals, 0 assists - 13 BAPS
    Aldy - 4.8 1 goal, 0 assists - 1 BAP

so are the other Saints defenders worth the extra?

if he wasn't it would be even better, Yoshida is 4.2
