Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 29

With Swansea and Liverpool yet to play out the Gameweek tomorrow evening, we take a look at the new injury worries caused by the weekend’s nine fixtures.

Chelsea
Willian was replaced by Juan Cuadrado with just eight minutes remaining of today’s home draw with Southampton after picking up an injury, according to match reports.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew is sweating over the availability of a couple of key first-team players after Jason Puncheon (hamstring) and Wilfried Zaha (hip) were both forced off during the weekend win over QPR.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Kevin Mirallas missed today’s win over Newcastle with a knock sustained in Thursday’s Europa League victory over Dinamo Kiev. The Belgian is expected to recover in time for this week’s return trip to the Ukraine, though, after failing a late fitness test earlier today.

QPR
Rio Ferdinand missed the trip to Selhurst Park due to illness, the club’s official website has confirmed. The R’s right-back Darnell Furlong was replaced by Clint Hill at the break in Saturday’s defeat at Palace after sustaining a calf complaint, according to manager Chris Ramsey:

”Darnell came off and the only reason he did so was because his calf stiffened up and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep him on. He didn’t come off because they scored two goals.”

Southampton
Eljero Elia missed today’s trip to the Bridge with a twisted ankle, according to the local press.

Stoke
Jonathan Walters was forced off on 67 minutes with a head injury following a collision with Craig Dawson in the Potters’ 1-0 loss at West Brom. Erik Pieters was withdrawn at the break, whilst match reports indicate that Victor Moses was replaced on 57 minutes due to injury. After the match, Mark Hughes gave an update on the former and admitted he has concerns over Walters’ availability:

”Erik should be ok next weekend, but Jon is our main concern at the moment. He looks as though he has a nasty bang on his cheekbone which may well be a fracture and that will have to be checked on Monday. We hope it isn’t but it’s looking as though it could be a serious one that will keep him out for a few games.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher was subbed off injured on 82 minutes after sustaining what appeared to be a thigh problem during the Black Cats’ 4-0 home hammering by Villa.

West Brom
Tony Pulis faces an anxious wait on Ben Foster’s fitness after the keeper was forced off with a knee injury during the Baggies’ win over Stoke, whilst match-winner Brown Ideye was also withdrawn late on with a similar complaint.

After the match, Pulis confirmed Foster is set for scans after sustaining the injury in a challenge with the Potters’ Peter Crouch:

“We will have to get him checked. He felt his left knee go from under him. We need him fit.”

West Ham
The Hammers keeper Adrian played from start to finish in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal despite dislocating his finger in the warm-up. Assistant boss Neil McDonald revealed post-match:

”He’s been a brave lad today because he could easily have pulled out. And he’s made some great saves. He has his finger strapped up to play and I’m hoping that if he played today he should alright for next week. He did it in the warm-up but he wanted to carry on. I haven’t ever dislocated my finger so I don’t know how much pain he was in but it’s obviously a big thing for a goalkeeper.”

I guess if Foster is out for 2-3 weeks then Myhill is a bargain buy. Been on Fost/Krul rotation since GW1 but likely to change in GW34 WC.
Got 2 ft's with no urgent transfer so GK situation may be the priority.
Just thinking out loud (on the keyboard) 🙂

As much as i dont wish any injury on anyone a longer term Foster injury would really tempt me to Foster to Ospina as i have Myhill as 2nd keeper

Myhill or Fabianski may be the move.
Wouldn't normally fuss but I reckon I can spare the transfer if Foster is out.

Nightmare. Same here, and now all I have is Krul and hate using my 1 transfer on a GK. Also have Bellerin issues now. You think he's dropped now?

No I wouldn't say he was bad. Looked fairly lively actually and fully deserved his goal. I'm just thinking you can't knock one and not the other.

    Krul panty
    Terry kos toby (naughton haidara)
    Alexis hazard silva eriksen (mahrez)
    Aguero giroud kane
    1,3m banked

Is the Mane secret out? Still only 1.8% ownership. Could be an amazing differential

Will Koeman stick with the system he started with yesterday? It looked creative and threatening. Mane was basically a striker.

He's definitely on the radar, and those fixtures are plump. If it weren't for the threat of the DGW I think he'd be a lot more popular. I feel ppl are saving their transfers for DGW players ... so good time to get him as THE differential!

Unless you are spending the cash on sturridge or costa, or ivan its not worth it.

Hmmm ... i think there are a few in the some boat. Couple of Naughton owners and a handful of Coutinho.

if it's a 1-1 draw with no-namers on the scoresheet it could be the worst round i can ever remember.

Not sure I have ever had such a bad week. I certainly don't remember a week where none of my midfield and forwards scored more than 2 (ignoring captain's double bonus) in almost 7 seasons of playing this game. Taking comfort where I can, at least going from 92 last week to 29 this week has a kind of symmetry about it.

I pity all those people who took a hit to shift Cazorla to Silva. Bringing in Ivanovic might have seemed like a good move as he was my second highest scoring player this week, but then I remember I was choosing between him and Schlupp... The latter outscored him by two and would have left me enough in the bank to give me plenty of options this week. 😕

I'd probably back United to not get beaten. Rooney as a forward is an absolute must here on out for Man Utd. The difference is just so clear.

AdM could be a hindrance but as long as RvP doesn't come straight back in we'll be fine.

Muppet, i missed the match. Was it more of Manu playing more cohesively as a team with Rooney being in his best position or Spurs playing v poorly? Or bit of both?

Ok. i hate to use the term knee jerk as i really dont like it.
Think in this game, as well as when really watching football, we are not too reactionary. It a modern football thing, if a team loses a game they are the worst, sack the manager, one win and they are back to their best.

I do think it is fair to look at form and patterns that extend over a few games and it is obvious that something is not clicking at Man City. It is obvious too that Rooney is better played up front.

The flip side to this is that i am not losing my mind over one week. Sanchez, Silva, Aguero, Kane will score points. They just collectively had one perfect storm of a gash week.

As a neutral, I think that Spurs performance was up there with worst I've seen of any team all season in the league. Especially in the first half....first half was more comprehensively the worst half of football I've seen played it was in there with some of the bad Sunderland and bad Villa performances of the year. They perked up a bit in the second half but they were still dire in general. I think that played more heavily on the outcome than United being good - although they were good.

Relatively impressive that they've they have been recently, Mason & Bentaleb were shown up badly.
Scan across the rest of team, there wasn't anybody to drag the team by the scruff of the neck. It lacks a leader, Vertonghen should possibly have been that man.

Vertonghen strikes me as a spineless individual and not one made up of leadership qualities. But I agree with your sentiment....their goalkeeper wears their armband and I think that says it all.

I just really don't like your team, and I also don't like the arrogance of LvG. I don't have anything against the badge, though. But I really have not enjoyed watching a single one of your games or performances really all season until today, and it was marred by how utterly crap Spurs were which overshadowed United's performance for me.

Bit of both. But we were brill. Mata on the right wing in the 433 for the first time. Kept the ball moving rather than giving it away ad nauseum. And of course Carrick back in the team was huge. Also Blind at LB offered so much more going forward than Shaw TBH. I think it may be his best position.

Both. United were miles better than Spurs to start, the defending was a joke at times. It could have been a bloodbath but Man Utd seemed content to take the 3-0 and Spurs seemed happy to escape with the 3-0 and to fight another day.

Yep, in seriousness, I agree. That trio were great. Carrick and Smalling in particular. I also think Mata had a quietly solid and workmanlike game given the lack of playing time he's had recently.

I would be surprised if he was. It will either be Markovic as RWB and dropping Lallana to the bench which I am expecting or Sterling as RWB to keep Lallana in there...both scenarios to get Sturridge back in obviously. Either way, I don't see it making much of a difference in terms of your outlook on the game. I'd be thoroughly scared regardless of how good you looked today against that Championship performance by Spurs. 🙂

Agree. I find bench points from a cheapie almost, almost, like a confirmation you are doing something right! The way i play my 5th mid is never a starter in my 11 and is there solely to be called upon if a forward or mid is dropped/ injured. To have a 5th mid scoring shows you have the right one in place.

If I had Boyd as my 5th mid this week, I would have started him.

I'm not even joking. I would of played him over Mane (who is my 4th mid)

I miss the feeling of confidently captaining a player and sitting back and watching the points roll in.

    I know it's early but for next week play 3 of Ivan(hul), Terry(hul), Kos(new), or Fonte(BUR).

    Currently benching Fonte

This is why you don't get 4 big defenders.

Just drafted in Ivan though and planning on going 4 in defence for the DGW if pool has a DGW 34 also.

Any idea when we will find out what other teams have DGW in GW34?

I'm going to save transfer this week but GWS running out to shuffle players in without a WC

Arsenal might be revealed soon but Liverpool won't be until after the replay.

I'm becoming convinced that week 34 might not be the double bonanza we expected.

Would be a shame as I've kind of been planning it..so everyone will have 3 Chelsea and Captain Costa or Aguero

United's away performance is inversly propotional to Liverpool's performance 😀 Would expect Liverpool to win, easily.

Kun > Costa is too easy. I am anticipating a Costa rush.

I downgraded Sanchez to Ozil for Kane Costa Aguero. Kane may go for Gru in DGW34.
