Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Swansea vs Liverpool

A dire Gameweek 29 limps to its conclusion this evening as Swansea and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Liberty. Brendan Rodgers returns to his former club having guided the Reds to a 12-match unbeaten run since moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have the chance to get amongst the points against a defence with a single shut-out in six in front of their own fans.

At the back, the visitors have been a consistent source of clean sheets in recent matches. The Merseysiders have kept out their opponents in six of the last eight Gameweeks and have Martin Skrtel available after the Slovakian recovered from a head knock that forced him off on a stretcher against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup stalemate last time out. Mamadou Sakho also returns as one of three centre-backs as Dejan Lovren drops to the bench. Rodgers has made further changes in the wing-back roles, with Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic dropping to the bench: Alberto Moreno is recalled on the left while Raheem Sterling looks to be deployed on the right.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss at Spurs in Gameweek 28. Prior to that defeat, Garry Monk’s men had registered back-to-back victories and earned three points in their previous match at the Liberty, courtesy of a 2-1 win over United.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was back in the goals last time out and has the upcoming fixtures to earn himself a place in our five-man midfields again, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung has notched three times in the last five and, at 5.1 in FPL, is staking a claim as a cheap budget option.

The teamsheet finds Monk forced into one change as Jordi Amat comes in for Federico FernΓ‘ndez who misses out for family reasons. Up front, Bafetimbi Gomis is available to lead the line after recovering from his collapse at White Hart Lane in the previous Gameweek.

Another way to parse out (knowing that the positions are intentionally reversed, but the net effect is the same)

    Sanchez > Costa or Giroud
    Austin > Mane

2 ft. Yay or nay, and which forward if you care to opine.

Team after transfers is gonna be-

    Foster
    Terry - Vertonghen - Alderweireld
    Sanchez - Hazard - Silva - Mane
    Aguero - Giroud - Kane

    Myhill - PVA - Cawson - Ameobi

    Undecided on captain.

    need to find 0.4m more to fund Caz + Austin + X > Mane + Costa + Y for a -4 here:

    ....................Panti
    .........Terry - Clichy - Toby
    Eriksen - Silva - Cazorla - Hazard
    ........Austin - Kane - Aguero

Krul; Boyd - Wollscheid - Lescott

was looking at Panti or Krul > cheap GK and keep rest, or potentially Wolly out

Looking for a bit of advice. I have been holding my ground at the top of my ML, but it has resulted in a skewed view on my team (trying to be safe and defensive with my players based on opponents).

I would like to bring in Hazard, but I can only seem to manage that at the expense of Silva, Sanchez or Aguero. Both Sanchez and Hazard are heavily owned (with almost no ownership for SIlva in the league), and I am trying to decide which players are better to own at this point. I also have two injuries to deal with potentially (Foster and Puncheon). I could:

    1. Puncheon and Silva out for Henderson and Hazard. That would is probably an better aggregate and deals with Puncehon, but I do think Silva has a good chance for points. Leaves 0.1 ITB
    2. Sanchez and Chadli out for Hazard and Ramsey. Could bring in decent points and gets rid of Chadli who I am not entire happy having, but would still lose Sanchez and keep Puncheon. 0.0 ITB
    3. Some other option involving sending away Sanchez, Chadli, Silva, Aguero, Giroud etc.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    A little bit of context...
    Team is currently:
    Foster Heaton
    Terry Clyne Bellerin N.Taylor Hutton
Sanchez Silva Chadli Puncheon Ki Sung-yeung
    Kane Giroud Aguero
    2.2 ITB, 2 FT

PVA probably should be sold. Sunderland have no spirit right now so I can't see them keeping a clean sheet. I'm willing to hold on the Foster/Krul combo personally. Although Newcastle are a shambles right now so its probably not the worst idea

If he is out for a while its an easy decision as I am not running with Krul for an extended period and I can afford ospina who is a great value option right now as opposed to Guzan who will suffer from the anti-pulis Timmy effect

Yeah it all depends. I'm hoping its only a short term thing but even if it is, you could always sell Krul instead?

Yeah I'd either do what Ryan suggested..maybe PvA to Dawson, or I would just downgrade Moses to fodder to free up funds in that fifth midfield spot for the future. Cork or someone who will likely give you a game in GW33.

Thanks Walsh. I still half belief potent will get another end of season run happening like last 2 years but maybe I am looking for patterns that are not there. I do want to see which of hutton and PVA play next week

Honestly I'd imagine both would. Sunderland look so dreadful at the moment though I'd rather ditch him, especially since he has a blank in GW33 and you probably wouldn't even want to start him for his DGW since Sunderland suck. That would be the kicker for me in losing PvA over Hutton.

I'd wait for Foster news and if it's more serious than, say, 2 weeks, I'd do Foster > Ospina. He'll be a nice cover for the next gameweek and also the double, when WBA is playing liv. Punchon > Mane alternatively.

I'm third in my mini league of interest, 86 pts behind 2nd and with the 4th guy 84 pts behind me.
Should I even bother to look at the standings anymore? Can anything happen here before the end?

Or unluck. πŸ˜‰ Strangely in a larger league I moved up from about 50th to 6th over the past months, but I'm stuck in the uni league.

League strength varies so much. Ive had weeks where Ive absolutely smashed it soared in rank and still dropped in a mini league πŸ˜†

Swansea looked good first half, just couldn't score.
Pool weren't anything flash, but got over the line

if I have no other Arsenal, but have Kane would you drop Caz or Eriksen to get Mane and fund Austin > Costa (2FT)

Tough call. Eriksen has nicer fixtures. Cazorla has form but will miss GW 33 and isn't nailed. Go with your gut.
