Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Swansea vs Liverpool

A dire Gameweek 29 limps to its conclusion this evening as Swansea and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Liberty. Brendan Rodgers returns to his former club having guided the Reds to a 12-match unbeaten run since moving to a 3-4-2-1 formation and the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have the chance to get amongst the points against a defence with a single shut-out in six in front of their own fans.

At the back, the visitors have been a consistent source of clean sheets in recent matches. The Merseysiders have kept out their opponents in six of the last eight Gameweeks and have Martin Skrtel available after the Slovakian recovered from a head knock that forced him off on a stretcher against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup stalemate last time out. Mamadou Sakho also returns as one of three centre-backs as Dejan Lovren drops to the bench. Rodgers has made further changes in the wing-back roles, with Glen Johnson and Lazar Markovic dropping to the bench: Alberto Moreno is recalled on the left while Raheem Sterling looks to be deployed on the right.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss at Spurs in Gameweek 28. Prior to that defeat, Garry Monk’s men had registered back-to-back victories and earned three points in their previous match at the Liberty, courtesy of a 2-1 win over United.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was back in the goals last time out and has the upcoming fixtures to earn himself a place in our five-man midfields again, whilst Ki Sung-Yeung has notched three times in the last five and, at 5.1 in FPL, is staking a claim as a cheap budget option.

The teamsheet finds Monk forced into one change as Jordi Amat comes in for Federico Fernández who misses out for family reasons. Up front, Bafetimbi Gomis is available to lead the line after recovering from his collapse at White Hart Lane in the previous Gameweek.

    Foster -- Myhill

    Clyne -- Ivanovic -- Bellerin -- (Dawson) -- (Naughton)

    Mane -- Ozil -- Silva -- Hazard -- (Boyd)

    Costa -- Kun -- Kane

    Is this team GTG? Or is there any changes needed?

    Pantilimon (whu)

    Clyne (BUR) | Terry (hul) | Bertrand (BUR)

    Silva (WBA) | Sterling (MUN) | Downing (SUN) | Sanchez (new) | Hazard (hul)

    Kane (LEI) | Aguero (WBA)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Heaton (sou); Berahino (mci) | Dawson (mci) | Haidara (ARS)

    Much obliged!

      I'd keep an eye on him tonight.

      Tbh it looks to me like he's hit freakish form again and fancy getting on nice and early.
      He's rarely rotated when genuinely fit, and his partnership with Giroud could be key in the run-in.

    Just assessing all the different options for transfers this week (have 2 FT):

    A: Eriksen + Puncheon ---> Silva + Mane
    B: Puncheon ---> Mane
    C: Kosc + Puncheon ---> Naughton + Silva

    Team for context:
    Panty, Foster
    Kosc, Clyne, Terry, Rose, PVA
    Haz, Sanchez, Eriksen, Puncheon, Boyd
    Kane, Aguero, Austin

    1. Chippo, Hadji, Aloisi.

            I wouldnt want to lose Koscielny so A then if you want Silva but dont really like C imo.

      Team looks absolutely fine, you big drama queen. And you have two free transfers. I would be looking at Austin, Puncheon (depending on prognosis), Jones and/or JWP for the chop this week, with one eye on gw33 and 34.
