Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 33

We roll out our usual Sunday evening look at the weekend’s new injuries, with City’s playmaker issuing positive news after being stretchered off during today’s win over West Ham.

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker is an early injury for the Gunners clash with Chelsea next Sunday after limping off on 63 minutes during the semi-final win over Reading. Arsene Wenger confirmed post-match:

“It’s an ankle injury. He limped badly so it doesn’t look too good really.

Aston Villa
Nathan Baker was replaced early on during the midlanders’ cup win over Liverpool today. After the match, Tim Sherwood confirmed he expects the defender to be ruled out for the rest of the campaign:

“We’ve not too big a squad and we’ve lost Nathan Baker today, Ciaran Clark last week, so we’ve got two fit centre backs. They did really well today, Jores Okore and Ron Vlaar. They’re the only two we’re going with between now an the end of the season, so we’re not blessed in defensive areas. It looks like Nathan’s season is over. It’s a really bad knee injury, and we know how long that normally takes.”

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rolled out an update on Willian, after the winger was only fit enough to make the bench against United.

”Willian coming on was a bonus I wanted to give him, he’s been in bed for two days and today he came straight from his house, making himself available to give us some help, he was fantastic.”

Everton
James McCarthy is set to be assessed after sustaining an ankle knock in Saturday’s home win over Burnley.

Leicester
David Nugent was withdrawn from the starting XI as a precaution after picking up a calf problem during the warm-up prior to the Foxes win over Swansea.

Man City
David Silva was stretchered off during City’s win over West Ham after being elbowed by Cheick Kouyate. Refusing to blame the Senegal international. Manuel Pellegrini confirmed Silva – who needed several minutes’ treatment before leaving the field – was set for hospital scans:

“At this moment he is in hospital and they are checking if he has a broken bone in his cheek. I always think that a player doesn’t want to damage another player, the ref decided it was unintentional and I also think that.”

An hour later, though, Silva allayed fears of any injury by confirming he was given the all-clear:

“Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I’m already home.”

Post-match reports suggest Samir Nasri has sustained a leg problem after replacing Silva with quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock.

Southampton
Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off during the Saints loss at Stoke yesterday afternoon. The Belgian needed oxygen after sustaining a shoulder injury, with Ronald Koeman optimistic on his prospects post-match:

“Toby looks OK now. It’s his shoulder and we maybe have to wait until the scan or something else to know exactly what happened. It’s his shoulder but he’s back on his place and will be good I think.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that he is having to manage Peter Crouch’s pitch time over the run-in as a result of an ongoing groin problem. The big striker has failed to start the last three and was afforded just 15 minutes against Southampton yesterday, with his manager conceding:

“Crouchy is struggling with a groin problem at the moment and the likelihood is that he is going to need an operation once the season ends. At the moment he is probably only fit enough for 25 to 30 minutes at the end of games so we are having to be careful with how we utilise him.”

West Brom
Craig Dawson was replaced on 71 minutes during the Baggies win at Palace after picking up a knee injury, according to match reports.

    Guys,

    A. Schmiechel and Moreno

    OR

    B. Mignolet and Schlupp

Thinking B as Moreno doesn't seem nailed. Both combo's same price. Cheers

I don't know him, is he swedish? Seriously tho, I can see a lot of upsides going 442. Allows me to keep both Silva and Kane too, Kane benched ofc..

Seems toi me that midfield spots are at a premium. More likely go 3-5-2. Kane up against Soton away, one of the best defences

I get a funny feeling that the last GW of the season is going to be a disaster. Everyone will be loaded up on Chelsea and Arsenal players who likely won't play even close to the 90. I can see Wenger without a doubt not using Sanchez and keeping him fresh for the FA cup final.

Basically make sure you have a bench with someone playing imo

This is why I want to keep my wild card until the last week if possible.

Would mean only having six DGW players next week (3 CHE, 3 LEI), don't think it's worth taking hits for Leicester or Hull players

Get two out of Sterling/Coutinho/Henderson and you're pretty safe. They also get a CS point, so getting 2-3 mids gives you just 1-2 points less than a CS for a defender.

I don't see this. Hull and WestBrom, at home and in danger of relegation, will be going for it. Aston Villa had no problems scoring two against them. Liverpool also need to go for it, nothing else left to play for. Liverpool mids the way to go for me

8th red arrow of the season this week - dropped something like 92 places.

I have so few because of my terrible start to the season. A little worried that this is the start of multiple red arrows and the demise of my mini league lead!

Yeah I'm doing the same and am almost basing my hits for this week on the fact I'll still have a 32 point lead and be 5 DGW players ahead.

I don't want to start playing like that but I already have..... 🙁

            Do you have many differentials?

In one mini-we have 2 totally different teams (mine is template per say) and he played his WC gw33, I'm 25ish behind him.
In other we're close on identical both playing our WC this week and I'm 10ush ahead, over a grand on the table for winners whereas 2nd drops to 400e - so there is an incentive Andy!

My 1st FPL season so please educate a newbie.

What's the big deal with this DGW? Apart from Hazard (who everyone has and will captain anyway) i'm struggling to see anybody essential. Injury doubts, rotation, mediocre future fixtures for Liverpool and a lack of motivation for Chelsea. Hull are just awful and only Leicester players look worth keeping for the rest of the season and then only because they are dirt cheap and you can bench them.

It seems to me that people are overreacting after the Villa vs QPR game. Hits to bring DGW players in and probably hits to clean up the mess afterwards. Is it really worth it?

After the double gameweek most people will be angry. Either because

      1. They didn't bring in enough players
      2. They brought in the wrong players
      3. They brought in too many players and the double was a complete fail

Playing dgws well are critical to succeed at this game imo. They usually throw up big scores and most double players will out score singles. But all that advantage is lost if you taking hits to get them in and out so the secret is to plan them with minimal hits or to have a WC

    On WC:

Currently looking at getting Ivanovic instead of Fabregas (also have Terry & Haz) as I read somewhere about Fab's much lower goal/assist stats in the second half of the season over the past few years.

    Thoughts?

I've been debating this a lot too. But Fabs has scored, and assisted the assister the last 2 games.
And I think there are decent defence options elsewhere, but not loads of midfield options for the DGW.

but it is close, I could still swap back..

Looks good! I'm not entirely convinced about Smalling though, I've stayed away from United defensively all season. Currently have the same front 8 as you too! Just looking for any alternative options to Cambiasso myself, and as you mentioned the possible Ivan/Fab switch. Good idea to have Ospina, currently have Monreal myself.

    Revision:

    Schmeichel
    Ivan Skrtel Schlupp (Toby, PVA)
    Hazard Fabregas Henderson Sterling Sanchez
    Aguero Vardy (Kane)

Leaves me .9 in the bank.

If I hold a transfer over in GW35, then in 36 I can go from Fabregas > Ramsey, and Henderson > Cork.

Then in GW37 I can go Vardy > Giroud

PVA will also be in there, so it's be a double up for GW37. It's a little tempting.

What are your thoughts on getting Ospina on the wildcard now? Takes up one Arsenal spot for GW37 which can be a good thing or a bad thing. A good thing because it makes it easy to fill up the Arsenal quota over the gameweeks to come and you can rather focus on other issues on your team than just transfer in Arsenal players. A bad thing because having to drop one of Sanchez, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil or Giroud in a double gameweek can be a tough thing for your nerves. What do you think?

His upside is too low to use a valuable slot on him.

      3 Arsenal attackers for me.

He's a nice option and the more you can do on your wildcard the better.

I'm looking at 3 Arsenal attackers for that week personally.

I've got him, could get a lot of cs's, would be very happy with 12 pts.
and I've decided Sanchez is too expensive, risky I known

going with Giroud, and whichever mid looks best, currently Ramsey.

Taking up a valuable slot so early can mean you are less flexible nearer the time, so no.

Been mulling this over myself. I think 3 attackers is the way to go personally, so I'll be avoiding on my WC this week.

Sanchez, Giroud and Ramsey/Ozil for me by GW37

I'd bring him in, bench this week then make him your #1 keeper until the end of the season. You can just forget about him and don't have to worry about your GK any more.

Having my best ever season at 52nd OR and have just played my WC. Top spot is 79 points away, so realistically that is out of reach if playing conservative.

    So, do i:

    A) Carry on as normal and aim for a top 10-20 rank
    B) Go with loads of differentials and differential captains from here on in, in a bid to sneak an unlikely top spot?

    1. HVT

      A for me.

Nice work, I'd do A, I think sadly for you top spot is unrealistic as you're relying on 51 players to slip up.

I think it's impossible if playing conservative, but if I gamble with the armband every week and get lucky, then who knows. I expect nearly all will go with Hazard(c) this week (and rightly so), so I'd likely have to go for one of Ivanovic, Fabs, Sterling this week.

Depends what you think is important of course; if you think OR is then I'd just stick to your usual game, but if you see it as "2nd is first loser", then go for it!

OR is important, but I feel I have to at least give it a go.

Worst case I'll likely still end up with a PB (circa 700ish before)

Play some very risky diffs but do it strategically not by player. Go big or go home. Consider these.

All of Coutinho Sterling and Henderson and gamble on Liverppol notching a few.
Await news on both Costa and Sturridge for an ultimate gamble.
Will Chelsea really outscore Liverpool ?...see above for the three Liverpool mids.
Will Chelsea park the bus (Ivan and Terry over two Chelsea mids) ?

Good god no...not Hazard...Hazard terry and Ivan could be the key for him.

Those thee Liverpool mids have pts in them over the next three. Whether that will be more than what those above him get is another matter but if he wants to win tne whole thing he has to do something out of the box.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Which ones to play this week?

    A) McShane (cry, LIV) and Cambiasso (bur, CHE)
    B) Sanchez (CHE) and Giroud (CHE)

I have double Chelsea defense against the Arsenal boys if it makes a difference

I know it was covered in the scoutcast but for anyone without the wildcard are you taking any hits? I've done a -4 but taking anymore than that seems a bit overkill in my eyes, thoughts?

    1. Doolittle
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 2 months ago

I don't think I need to take more than a -4, but view the hits as -4s in isolation; if the transfer is worth a -4, how many hits you've taken already is irrelevant.

Frustrates me when people say things like "Remy -> Vardy? Would be for a -12" No it wouldn't! It would be for -4; the -8 you've already taken is irrelevant!
