Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 41

For the final time this season, we take a look at the Sky Sports game ahead of Sunday’s ten fixtures. As always,we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team.

Gameweek 40 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Southampton vs Aston VillaSadio Mane
Burnley vs StokeJack Butland
QPR vs NewcastleCharlie Austin
Sunderland vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Tottenham vs HullDanny Rose
West Ham vs EvertonJohn Stones
Liverpool vs Crystal PalaceJason Puncheon
Swansea vs Man CityYaya Toure
Man United vs ArsenalAshley Young
West Brom vs ChelseaSaido Berahino
Arsenal vs SunderlandJohn O’Shea

The penultimate week threw up lots of differentials, with only Yaya Toure (9.9%) owned by a significant amount of managers. Arsenal were the real let-downs, with managers drafting in their assets in droves to take advantage of the double but were left frustrated by their lack of goals.

Gameweek 40 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed to pick up saves bonus this week. Costel Pantilimon was the real hero – he earned bonus for eight saves and also managed two clean sheets to pick up 16 points for Sunderland’s double. QPR’s Robert Green looks like earning the bonus equivalent of the golden glove, as he sits on 32 additional points.

In defence, six players grabbed bonus, five for tackles and one for passes completed. Pablo Zabaleta has the most bonus points(24) amongst defenders, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta is just two behind.

In midfield there were 21 beneficiaries in total: 15 for tackling and 11 for passes. Five players managed to earn both – all central midfielders, one of those was Nemanja Matic, who is the game’s highest bonus point earner with 54 points credited – almost the equivalent of 11 goals!

No forwards earned bonus this week but Wayne Rooney remains at the summit with 10 bonus points – all earned from passing.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Cesc Fabregas is banned for the weekend following his red card, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling’s form has been poor in recent weeks, Wayne Rooney is doubtful after a leg injury whilst Sergio Aguero is a victim of the acquisition of Arsenal players as we see below.

Arsenal dominate after being involved on Wednesday night and unfortunately it was the attacking assets that were targeted for their 0-0 draw. Fantasy managers (myself included) will be sweating on them featuring on the final day after Arsene Wenger looks set to shuffle his starting XI.

Notes

My entire week can be summed up by the word “Mane”. The Southampton winger came good with an astonishing hat-trick, assist and MoTM award to earn 25 points – long overdue after watching him tease me for weeks. Aside from him, only David Silva managed to deliver, picking up ten points away to Swansea. My captains, in particular, produced nothing but I imagine it was the same for many. On a more positive note, we’re in the penultimate week and I’m sat in 36th position overall, continuing my decent Sky game record – at one stage I didn’t think I would make it but the acquisitions of Schlupp, Dawson, Silva and Mane in the later weeks really helped my cause. My concern is going into the final week without Sergio Aguero. Considering that many will have him – and very likely as captain – there’s still a chance I’ll slip out of the top 100 if he racks up another huge haul. The sofa will be firmly in place!

Captain Plan
With all matches on Sunday at 15:00 and so many questions over final day line-ups, it’s a real lottery. Of course, those holding position will likely opt for Aguero but if you’re chasing, I fancy a punt on Romelu Lukaku or David Silva to try and make a late climb to victory.

    Schmeichael (Pants)
Bellerin // Wollscheld // Alderweril (Dawson // PVA)
    Hazard (c) // Sanchez // Albrighton // Puncheon // Silva
    Aguero (vc) // Giroud (Kane)

    1.2m in the bank..

What stands out as the final gameweek punt gents??
Only thing coming to mind is:

    A: Alderweril ----> Kolarov
    B: Hazard -----> Yaya

would consider Mata a better punt than Mata??

Am 13 points behind rival, going to do a -4 hit because why not. Kane + Clyne/Cazorla out for:

    A) Lukaku + £4m defender (Wasil most likely)
    B) Lukaku + £6.6m midfield (could punt on Sissoko/Young/Milner, difficult price range)
    C) Ulloa + £7m defender - Smalling could be good
    D) Ulloa + £10m mid - Walcott possibly
    E) Lukaku + £9.3m mid (would get rid of Sanchez instead of Caz)

Ulloa would cover the 2 people below me but i have a feeling Lukaku could destroy a failing Spurs side, plus no one else in my ML has him

Kane becomes the ironic differential pick of the week I think. If I had him, I would hold and play him. He certainly has the potential to score big, even though he is off form. It's pretty advantageous to have a player everyone is selling that, even with remote odds, could explode.

He's a staple player in my ML, not having him will prove advantageous if he blanks again. Despite having triple Arsenal mids Kane seems to be the clear option to replace.

I'm about to head on a stag and need to get my team sorted before I go. I'm going to do Giroud to Benteke now leaving:

    Schmeichel
    Ivanovic Skrtl PVA
    Silva Sanchez Cazorla Cambiasso
    Aguero(c) Benteke Vardy

    Subs: Pants Henderson Duff Alderweireld

Look good to go? 82 points ahead in ML and want to win.

Last game of the season. You really never know. If there is a week to try someone different and differentiate, this is it. And, he's a pretty good player on a pretty good team against a team coming off a recent match that could be emotionally and physically more tired. It's certainly a punt worth considering, IMO.

I have been reading these boards all week and there is no consensus must have mid. From what I have seen, money no object, most would bet the greatest likelihood on Yaya or Mata. Bolasie and Siggy are also highly sought after mids.

You should have known schmeichel would have came back and got his place back, then green would have taken a head knock followed by pants injuring his knee but playing on then pulling out.

Agree with this but don't have anything to back it up other than a feeling.

I've decided I need to go more on feelings. I've cost myself a serious number of points by looking at stats/probabilities.

Have Kos, Sanchez, Caz, Benteke, Haz who might all be rested.

            He'll start and play 60mins.

Plenty of time for a brace

They'll want to go out with a bang after last week.

This is what I am expecting, that Benteke will start but not play the entire match. A brace would be fabulous, too.

do you not think sanchez will play... i can see sanchez outscoring mata and i would not get rid of benteke. will never forgive remy for earlier in the season

I really don't know about the Arsenal mid resting situation. I have Puncheon as first sub, so not too worried there. But would rather have a nailed mid + Arsenal rather than two Arsenal mids.

Am not certain Benteke will play.

Both decent picks. Go with your gut.

I already have Benteke and am considering Lukaku for a hit...

If I had neither I would probably get Lukaku not because he is in better form or has more chance but purely because I would be worried about the cup final and a rest, although I do think tekkers should play...

I reckon he is vying to become a scout... If that ever happens I will never come on here again......

Imagine he went off after 10 minutes when that injury happened, we would have been robbed off great entertainment and 7 points

Which is the best move guys? Hazard + Kane to:

        A) Milner + Costa
        B) Milner + Lukaku
        C) Silva + Cisse

All moves mean I will have to play Giroud as well. Or maybe do Hazard + Giroud -> Silva + Costa and play Kane?

Costa a bit more appealing now that Pantilimon is out? If price doesnt matter would you go for Lukaku or Costa?

Still Lukaku. Costa relies heavily on Hazard (very doubtful) and Fabregas (suspended).

There will be other decent players in their positions though.
