Games

PlayON Focus – Gameweek 3

As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

Mourinho: "We get a young left-back we need, and one of the best attacking players in the world."

Mourinho on Pedro: "He has something I really like - a desire to leave one of the best clubs in the world."

"He's played with Messi, all these stars... but he wants more. I'm really happy with this attitude."

I did say when the City link came out that the only club in the PL I would see him doing better at than United was Chelsea.

Now, it will depend on defensive work rate, especially as he is shielding the calamitous Ivanovic. If he can produce similar effort to Willian, then problem is solved (assuming he adapts well).

Well then it is a matter of watching and waiting, as defensive duties may be a tad more demanding in the PL than LL where attack is the big focus.

Rate these 4.5m defences from top to bottom along with the best 4.5 option for that team. (take fixtures into consideration as well)

STK (Muniesa nailed? Do we have a nailed 4.5er? How far is Shawcross?)
NOR (Decent fixtures. Number of chances conceded is down. Martin their most nailed on defender yes?)
AVL (Seem to have tightened up at the back. Richards carries a good goal threat as well and their fixtures look good)
BOU (Great fixtures and Francis at 4.4 potentially could be a bargain)
WAT (Fixtures good look (Really good after three fixtures). Is Prodl their best option?)
Gomez (Not nailed on but the best 4..5 defender if nailed on. Worth the gamble i reckon as Rodgers does not like changing if things are going good)
LEI (Huth is a good option but stats and fixtures aren't the best)

That defence is pretty mucky though, someone made a good point the other day, if you have Aguero you won't captain Silva so why not Silva > YYT (or Depay?) and upgrade a defender or two

      1. vice
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 10 months ago

Because to me Silva is a much better prospect than YYT, although I have both in my current draft. You could also downgrade Gomis to Diouf and get Williams for a 4.5 defender.

    3. Wardinator
      • 9 Years

You could swap Haz or Silva for an 8.5 mid (there's some good options at this price point) and use the funds to upgrade defence

He's clearly top quality, even in a series where he's not been at his best, he's racked up a double ton and a hundred today.

If other batsmen had scored runs when he failed then he'd be talked about as having had a good series. The Aussies have been 2 middle order batsmen light all series.

I still think Smith should bat 4 but that's another issue.

    HAZARD VS SILVA

So this seemed to be a problem quite a few people are facing on their WCs, or even without their WCs. Decided to do a little bit of research.

    Team Form:
    Chelsea - Poor, imo. -------------- 2 Goals Scored, 5 Goals Conceded---(SWA, mci)
    Man City - Excellent, imo. ------- 6 Goals Scored, 0 Goals Conceded---(wba,CHE)

    Individual Form:
    Hazard: 0 Goals 0 Assist
    Silva: 1 Goal 3 Assists

So, City are in red hot form atm, with everything clicking for them, whilst Chelsea's the complete opposite. The 14/15 EPL Champions haven't won a game yet this season, only managing a draw at Stamford Bridge against Swansea and getting hammered by City. City clearly the winner here.

On an individual level, it seems team form is having a big influence with Hazard failing to record a goal or assist so far, whilst Silva has already notched once, picking up 3 assists along the way. Silva clearly the winner here.

So it seems pretty clear-cut to me at this point.

Then there's the "But he's Hazard!" arguments, the "Chelsea are about to turn the corner!" and "Hazard was last season's top FPL scorer".

Sure, but even if Chelsea start picking up their form, City are ALREADY In Form, and are producing the points, Chelsea aren't and you'd be taking a risk betting they pick up here. Even so, I believe Silva is more than capable of matching Hazard's output if Chelsea/Hazard decide to show up.

Also, David Silva is more than capable of matching Hazard's point output, have a look at least season's numbers. It's all just a matter of minutes for Silva.

So, once you factor in the price difference of 1.5m(which can be reinvested elsewhere to further increase your team's points output), I really don't think there's much of a battle here, for now at least...

    14/15 Season

    Hazard:
    Minutes Played: 3373
    FPL points: 233
    Points per Minute: 0.069

    15/16 Price: 11.5m

    Silva:
    Minutes Played: 2646
    FPL points: 191
    Points Per Minute: 0.072

    15/16 Price: 10m

Take what you will from this, but imo, the Silky Spaniard is the clear-cut winner.

    P.S
    I don't own either

Crazy as it sounds Depay at 8.5 could get close to Hazard also. It's in his locker.

I think Depay is actually more explosive than Hazard. Remember Hazard did not score a brace ONCE last season and Depay already has one in his locker...

Useful analysis. Although I think you are weighting form over just 2 games quite heavily. Over the course of a season (and if you use your WC, you should be looking longer term) Hazard has proved himself to be a top points per game scorer as well as very robust, whereas Silva has had more injuries / gets subbed off more / rested. Also historic record of Hazard over 3 seasons is absolutely fantastic and consistent- better than Silva's.

All things being considered I think your conclusions are correct- Silva currently edges it for the money save. But I wouldn't be comfortable going without Hazard for the season either.

Save points are the same - 1 point for every 3 saves
Save BPS are different - 2 BPS per save.

E.g. 5 saves will give a keeper 1 extra point, but 10 BPS. They get more BPS than they did last season and can therefore do better in the BPS totals and be more likely to get the bonus points!

Sounds good, how about this one then:

Which option would you prefer here:.

      1. Sanchez, Diouf and Hoolahan. This option is to accommodate Sanchez but leaves the other two players as slightly weak.

      2. Ramsey, Benteke and Redmond. This spreads the funds better and leaves more room for flexibility for later transfers. It does assume Ramsey can give Sanchez a challenge as an alternative.

      3. Ramsey, Depay and Deeney. Weak in the forward line but stronger midfield.

Of all the questions this is a tough one.

I think id be tempted to go for 1. Sanchez will be a captain in the next few gws and Diouf has some good fixtures

If you dont have Mahrez then Albrighton if you do then id probably go for Hoolanhan

Thanks. That would leave the team looking like this:

              Schmeichel Butland
              Kompany Williams Gomez Ward Richards
              Silva Payet Mahrez Sanchez Hoolahan
              Agüero Gomis Diouf

Is that good to go or any changes you would advise?

              Thanks, much appreciated.

Pick your favourite for a WC team:

      Ayew, Chadli, Ozil, Mahrez, Depay

      Thanks KoL

Have Sakho upfront. Don't want Pelle.

      McCarthy (Myhill)
      Azpilicueta Darmian Kolarov (Morgan Francis)
      Silva Özil Eriksen Depay Mahrez
      Agüero Sakho (Watmore)

What is wrong with this WC team? I have a strong feeling that it could be its final form.

The mid is great. I dont like Watmore. I would do a keeper to Courtois downgrad Azpili and get Wilson over Watmore but that might just be me

I've came to a conclusion that the 1.0m from having Watmore is better used in defense rather than on an attacker whom I'm not going to play ever. Courtois is a good suggestion, have to think about it. But that McCarthy/Myhill rotation looks quite decent on paper.
