Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 4

Following a Gameweek littered with knocks and niggles, we roll out our usual post-match club-by-club report on the fresh arrivals in the treatment room.

We find Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe with plenty to concern him, whilst Claudio Ranieri plays down the back problem that forced Riyad Mahrez off against the Cherries.

Arsenal
Mesut Ozil missed the Gunners 1-0 win at Newcastle with a minor knee problem. Prior to the match, Arsene Wenger confirmed he expects the German back imminently:

“It’s a slight injury but he is not available to play. He will be out for one week”

Aston Villa
Jack Grealish missed Villa’s home draw with Sunderland after injuring an ankle in training on Friday, while club skipper Gabby Agbonlahor was also ruled out through illness after the club had been hit by a widespread virus.

Post-match, Tim Sherwood brought us this on the Grealish injury….

“Jack twisted his ankle. There was no-one near him. He caught his toe in the turf on Friday. He went over on it. He was sick, gutted. We don’t know how bad it is. We’re hoping it’s just a sprain and the international break might give him an opportunity to be ready for the Leicester game.”

While he also updated us on Agbonlahor’s situation…

“Gabby is not well. He’s had the stomach bug. I think there’s six or seven at the club who have suffered. Gabby was one.”

Adama Traore was also ruled out against the Black Cats having made his debut from the bench at Palace in Gameweek 3. Sherwood was optimistic on his return after the international break…

“Adama is feeling a kick. He got a kick on the back of the calf and obviously rolled his ankle at the same time. The good news is that the ankle is okay. It’s just about the soreness of the kick – and it was too sore for him to take part.”

Bournemouth
The Cherries’ treatment room got a little bit busier this weekend after three of their players sustained weekend injuries. Tyrone Mings lasted just 11 minutes as a sub before being stretchered off, whilst Max Gradel is also a worry for Eddie Howe:

“We need to assess and scan before making a judgement. Tyrone didn’t look good, seeing him in that much pain, it’s not nice to see. Max knew early it was serious. Knee injuries are not good to see. It restricted us tactically. We couldn’t make changes when we needed to to get momentum back.”

Left-back Charlie Daniels was forced off with a knee problem at the break, though is optimistic the problem isn’t serious:

“I had an initial scan and it did not look too bad. Hopefully, it will be nothing long-term but we can’t really tell yet, that was just the first look. Once the swelling has gone down, I will probably have another scan on Tuesday to see how it is.”

The Cherries were also without Joshua King due to a hamstring problem.

Everton
The Toffees are set to be without Tom Cleverley for a period of time after the midfielder was stretchered off in yesterday evening’s goalless draw at Spurs. Post-match, Roberto Martinez admitted the club are uncertain how long Cleverley will be sidelined for:

“The physio is a little bit more positive [than he was at half-time]. I think it is clearly ligament damage – but, straight away, we were fearing it could have been ligament damage and a fracture as well. It shows that Tom is a very, very fit man to be able to get through that collision with a [relatively] minor injury. He will still be out for a while but not as long as we first thought he might be – and we thank the luck that we had there.”

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri confirmed that the Foxes in-form Riyad Mahrez was subbed off at the break after sustaining a back problem during yesterday’s clash with Bournemouth. The Leicester boss eased concerns over a serious injury by revealing:

“We changed Riyad at half-time because he took a kick very early in the game and after that, in the battle, he could not play at full speed. I wanted us to keep pressing forward, so we replaced him as a precaution.”

Southampton
Victor Wanyama – who missed the Saints Europa League exit on Thursday evening with a stomach bug – was again absent for today’s win over Norwich. With rumours of a move to Spurs growing, Ronald Koeman revealed the Kenyan was “not mentally and physically good enough to play” against the Canaries.

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Glen Johnson was forced off just after the hour mark against West Brom due to a groin problem.

Swansea
Jefferson Montero missed today’s win over United with a minor thigh problem. After the match, Garry Monk eased fears over the extent of the injury:

“Unfortunately Jeff pulled up in training with a bit of soreness in his quad, but he has had scan and it is nothing clinical.”

Tottenham
Spurs are set to assess Moussa Dembele after the Belgian was stretchered off during the goalless draw with Everton with a foot injury.

The player himself has since posted on Twitter offering reassurance on the scale of the problem.

West Brom
James Chester missed the Baggies 1-0 win at rivals Stoke due to a minor hamstring problem. Callum McManaman also suffered from a similar complaint but was fit enough to make an appearance as a second-half sub.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Start three from this lot, lads:

    A) Bassong (BOU)
    B) Azpi (eve)
    C) Cedric (wba)
    D) Kolarov (cpl)
    E) Coates (TOT)

Think I can lock D in and lock E out but undecided on the final two. Cheers 🙂

McCarthy should be replaced by Speroni when the latter comes back from injury. So you might have a non-playing keeper. I would take Silva over Sterling but not many can afford him.

Just to say that FPL is so unpredictable. Spent all week last week trying to find a way to avoid doubling up Ayew + Gomis against MAN. Nearly did Gomis > Diouf to catch his rise but thankfully held as not worth a -4 hit.

On Saturday with 33 points and only Ayew + Gomis left I thought "that's all folks, nothing left to see, move along"...

Great transfers imo...Wilson cheaper, rising and a better mid term pick with those fixtures for me, possibly long term aswell. Pedro move great and i think he is the Chelsea man to own this season

Yep, just saw it. Love it a lot.
One question, do you think it's good to stick with Hazard (I've got Pedro 🙂 )
I could take him out for YYT or Sanchez. I was just seeing some stats and Sanchez looks dangerous. YYT to of course 😉
              Thoughts?

I think it's time to go with Haz, with the addition of Costa last year and now Pedro, there is just too many dimensions too the attack meaning Haz isn't as explosive a captain choice as he was. I have Yaya but i am a bit skeptical on how much he is actually getting forward. All he seems to be doing is taking long range pings. I reckon Sanchez or Silva are the ones.

    Fab / Schmei

    Gomez / Mert / Kolarov / Richards / Oxford
    Mahrez / Depay / Yaya / Sanchez / Payet
    Agüero / Gomis / Ighalo

Got 2FTs and have been playing 3-5-2. Depay > Ayew for the first and thinking Oxford > Ward for the second.

I was also thinking about downgrading to a cheaper mid and selling Ighalo for Wilson to play a 3-4-3.

    Thoughts?

Ighalo to Wilson maybe? As WAT have not looked threatening since GW1. IMO Yaya will be outscored by Silva and De Bruyne, maybe even Sterling (I may have to eat my words later). But a solid team if you get Ayew in-he is class.

No love for Rondon yet...perhaps waiting to see what he does...been playing around with the second transfer, pulled the trigger on Depay>Ayew.

I'm tempted by Payet>Chadli but it might be robbing Peter to pay Paul with Payet facing Newcastle next and Chadli facing Sunderland!

My heart says Chadli for the long term though...

Well honestly, you have Ozil who's underperforming, possibly injured as well.
Hazard as well. You have Obertan and Fletcher whom you've got to play now of every week. Defense is quite poor with Targett's time running out, Coates and Sunderland currently struggling at the back. Not to mention, Rooney….

It's all a matter of time, but how much time can you waist waiting?
          That's the question

Is Depay ever going to "explode" (cue sfx) or is van Gaal going to weigh him down? He was supposed to have taken the league by storm but looks a step behind in terms of speed and can't seem to dribble past any defender.

Little headless at the moment. Shooting from afar, not crossing or picking out teammates, predictably cuts in to dribble.

I did see his performances though, did you see his games? The lads got pace and skill and watching where he moves for the ball is promising.

These are all fine things, but it doesn't work if the other ten lads in your team aren't pulling their weight. Im excited for West Brom because their defense has been pretty solid but they need a lift in attack with Berahino set to wander off to Spurs....

    Here is my team:

    Ruddy l Rudd
    Kolarov l Jenkinson l Williams l Huth l Francis
    Hazard l Ayew l Chadli l Silva l Fletcher
    Aguero l Diouf l Wilson

    1FT / 1.8itb

    A) Jenko --> Shaw/Darmian

    B) Hazard --> Sanchez/Pedro

    C) Fletcher --> Marhez/Redmond/ Kouyate

Heard Olsson isn't nailed, talk of Lescott being left out now at 33, and then there's Dawson, Chester and McAuley so not sure.

I think Daw and Mc are nailed but not a lot of attack there. I had Lescott most of last season and was overall pretty happy. If I knew he was nailed on, I would get him but for the short term probably Olsson for me.

Morning DZ, either of these stand out?

    A) Haz -> Sanchez(c)

    B) Save (and sort out the likely defensive mess with 2 FT in GW6 - Targett & Coates being possible non-starters and the rest having tough fixtures)

    Ruddy
    Shaw, Bellerin, Huth
    Hazard, Silva, Mane, Mahrez
    Aguero, Tekkers, Wilson

    Rudd, Sinclair, Targett, Coates
    Bank 0.1m, 1FT, 1WC

    1. Van Klinkert Delarosa
      • 9 Years

      I'd save.

Save from those options for me.

Personally did Haz to Pedro for the cash difference as well as points. Massive difference that around 2m can make

Yeah, Pedro definitely looks the CHE attacker to own right now. On a lot of set pieces and not afraid to shoot.

That being said, Sanchez is a huge goal threat and out record at home to STO is good (scored 3 goals in 3 of the last 4). He will come good.

    3. Shifty
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 9 months ago

Haz > Pedro for me. Probably doing that myself or changing my keeper (Pants) to Fabianski/Myhill.

Think this might be the right week to admit Hazard is no longer good at that price with Pedro as an option. Value swing also a point to consider.

Switch back to Hazard when he picks up.

Yep. Haz is averaging one shot per game which is terrible for a 11.5m attacker.

Pedro is on my wish list but I fancy Sanchez to outscore him this week (and I'd be happy giving Sanchez the armband for STO).

You sorted when you're playing your WC?

Great question. It depends if Mata can hit form and on how well DB fits into Citeh. At a guess, I'm going to say Mata just because United have no decent strikers yet to steal the points from.
