Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 4

Following a Gameweek littered with knocks and niggles, we roll out our usual post-match club-by-club report on the fresh arrivals in the treatment room.

We find Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe with plenty to concern him, whilst Claudio Ranieri plays down the back problem that forced Riyad Mahrez off against the Cherries.

Arsenal
Mesut Ozil missed the Gunners 1-0 win at Newcastle with a minor knee problem. Prior to the match, Arsene Wenger confirmed he expects the German back imminently:

“It’s a slight injury but he is not available to play. He will be out for one week”

Aston Villa
Jack Grealish missed Villa’s home draw with Sunderland after injuring an ankle in training on Friday, while club skipper Gabby Agbonlahor was also ruled out through illness after the club had been hit by a widespread virus.

Post-match, Tim Sherwood brought us this on the Grealish injury….

“Jack twisted his ankle. There was no-one near him. He caught his toe in the turf on Friday. He went over on it. He was sick, gutted. We don’t know how bad it is. We’re hoping it’s just a sprain and the international break might give him an opportunity to be ready for the Leicester game.”

While he also updated us on Agbonlahor’s situation…

“Gabby is not well. He’s had the stomach bug. I think there’s six or seven at the club who have suffered. Gabby was one.”

Adama Traore was also ruled out against the Black Cats having made his debut from the bench at Palace in Gameweek 3. Sherwood was optimistic on his return after the international break…

“Adama is feeling a kick. He got a kick on the back of the calf and obviously rolled his ankle at the same time. The good news is that the ankle is okay. It’s just about the soreness of the kick – and it was too sore for him to take part.”

Bournemouth
The Cherries’ treatment room got a little bit busier this weekend after three of their players sustained weekend injuries. Tyrone Mings lasted just 11 minutes as a sub before being stretchered off, whilst Max Gradel is also a worry for Eddie Howe:

“We need to assess and scan before making a judgement. Tyrone didn’t look good, seeing him in that much pain, it’s not nice to see. Max knew early it was serious. Knee injuries are not good to see. It restricted us tactically. We couldn’t make changes when we needed to to get momentum back.”

Left-back Charlie Daniels was forced off with a knee problem at the break, though is optimistic the problem isn’t serious:

“I had an initial scan and it did not look too bad. Hopefully, it will be nothing long-term but we can’t really tell yet, that was just the first look. Once the swelling has gone down, I will probably have another scan on Tuesday to see how it is.”

The Cherries were also without Joshua King due to a hamstring problem.

Everton
The Toffees are set to be without Tom Cleverley for a period of time after the midfielder was stretchered off in yesterday evening’s goalless draw at Spurs. Post-match, Roberto Martinez admitted the club are uncertain how long Cleverley will be sidelined for:

“The physio is a little bit more positive [than he was at half-time]. I think it is clearly ligament damage – but, straight away, we were fearing it could have been ligament damage and a fracture as well. It shows that Tom is a very, very fit man to be able to get through that collision with a [relatively] minor injury. He will still be out for a while but not as long as we first thought he might be – and we thank the luck that we had there.”

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri confirmed that the Foxes in-form Riyad Mahrez was subbed off at the break after sustaining a back problem during yesterday’s clash with Bournemouth. The Leicester boss eased concerns over a serious injury by revealing:

“We changed Riyad at half-time because he took a kick very early in the game and after that, in the battle, he could not play at full speed. I wanted us to keep pressing forward, so we replaced him as a precaution.”

Southampton
Victor Wanyama – who missed the Saints Europa League exit on Thursday evening with a stomach bug – was again absent for today’s win over Norwich. With rumours of a move to Spurs growing, Ronald Koeman revealed the Kenyan was “not mentally and physically good enough to play” against the Canaries.

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Glen Johnson was forced off just after the hour mark against West Brom due to a groin problem.

Swansea
Jefferson Montero missed today’s win over United with a minor thigh problem. After the match, Garry Monk eased fears over the extent of the injury:

“Unfortunately Jeff pulled up in training with a bit of soreness in his quad, but he has had scan and it is nothing clinical.”

Tottenham
Spurs are set to assess Moussa Dembele after the Belgian was stretchered off during the goalless draw with Everton with a foot injury.

The player himself has since posted on Twitter offering reassurance on the scale of the problem.

West Brom
James Chester missed the Baggies 1-0 win at rivals Stoke due to a minor hamstring problem. Callum McManaman also suffered from a similar complaint but was fit enough to make an appearance as a second-half sub.

Anyone got Palace attack or anyone thinking of getting in any? Could be an early season flash in the pan but they do look much better so far, even though I know it's early days.

Palace will struggle against some bottom half teams when they can't counter attack. Man City game would perhaps be the one to get him.

    Here is my team:

    Ruddy l Rudd
    Kolarov l Jenkinson l Williams l Huth l Francis
    Hazard l Ayew l Chadli l Silva l Fletcher
    Aguero l Diouf l Wilson

    1FT / 1.8itb

    A) Jenko --> Shaw/Darmian

    B) Hazard --> Sanchez/Pedro

    C) Fletcher --> Marhez/Redmond/ Kouyate

What would you do in priority for 1 FT?

Your team looks sound but both Ayew and Chadli and Diouf and Wilson is a little off for me.

Id be looking initially at Hazard to Pedro.

Later either Chadli up grade or Chadli to Maherez and Diouf upgrade

It would appear you would be playing a 3-4-3 with that front three and then leaving Fletcher on the bench.

If thats your logic then do A. Lot's of points coming from defence and Shaw looks good thus far.

Hazard out for Pedro would save money as many are doing but there is still time for Hazard to hit form (since you already have 1.8 it) but if you wanted more collateral then maybe Haz to Pedro would be my second choice.

If you're looking to change formation you would need to out Wilson or Diouf in a front three of those so I doubt you would want C.

Well you have a few underperforming players. It doesn't make them bad though I don't like having 2 x West ham offensive. Although their fixture next week is decent and it might work out.

I am not a huge fan of Benteke. He had some really long spells at Villa when he never scored and he seems to be going a similar way at Liverpool. Plus he has a hard fixture next week. But he does have 2 good fixtures after this (including a return to Villa).

Also not huge on Chadli but hs fixtures are decent so I would keep.

Probably spread the West Ham risk with Payet to Awew or Sakho to Wilson/ Gomis.

    Ruddy - Rudd

Darmian Azpilicueta Huth - Williams Ward

Sanchez Silva Mahrez Mata - Wanyama

    Aguero Gomis Wilson

    1 FT , 0.1 ITB

    Which option looks best ?

    A) Wait for the end of the International break to use FT .
    B) Darmian to Kolarov ( exact money to do this move, might be priced out later )
    C) Any other suggestion.

Depay doing zilch and Mata raking it in unfortunately affect Shaw and Darmian points and BAPs wise.

If Depay actually half decent, Shaw will not be the attacking outlet for that left flank.

Alright thanks for your opinion, as stated above I'll let the situation of intl. break unfold before any decisions are made. Who knows, maybe another problem arises… God forbid 😛 .

I would personally do B on yours below. Pedro has some excellent stats, and if you are not one that follows stats, then he's looked very dangerous on the pitch as well.

Would recommend getting a membership, I think the Player comparisons and point projections could help immensely in your case for tight decisions like those

        Good luck

Since you've already got Pedro I agree you don't need Haz. Between Silva and Sanchez I'd go with the latter. Arsenal have seemed lost these first few weeks but I think they'll start clicking after the int'l break. Interesting to see how KDB addition will affect FPL output from YYT/Silva/Sterling.

if its so aguero can come in instead of sterling then yes.. i think its a very good move. pretty confident that aguero + wilson will outscore sterling + vardy... especially when its getting you a captain choice. its just unlucky i think.

Anyone know when does the 'selling price' of players are adjusted to the current value?
I've got Diouf, who had a price rise to 6.6 since 2 weeks.
Yet the selling price is still 6.5?

Wanted to wait for the selling price to rise so I can swap for Wilson, who was 5.6!

Unfortunately, Wilson has had another price rise to 5.7, while Diouf is still on 6.5!

Anyone knows about how and when the selling price is re-adjusted here?

    1. TK74

Ok.. meaning I gotta do the change asap, since Wilson will continue to rise while Diouf will stag, considering the coming fixtures.

Its always half. So if he rises to 5.7 then you can sell him for 5.6. Also its always rounded down so thats why at the moment its still 5.5.

Bearing all this in mind we should remember that TV is still a bit skewed due to the shear number of players who have only gone up 0.1. Our sale value hasn't been affected so thats why I think a lot of early WC teams don't have a great sale value yet.

    3rd city player

Hi guys, on WC and a big decision to make re my 3rd city player. Already have Kompany and Aguero. Its between Kolarov and Silva/KDB. Don't wanna sell Kompany as he's a season keeper.

Re kolarov, even though Clichy is injured, I feel he will suffer rotation when UCL comes around. Its the nature of his game, he bombs forward a lot, and they can move sagna to LB for a week or 2, even otamendi etc...

    1. Heels_Over_Head
      • 10 Years

      1) there are no season keepers
      2) Kolarov a better value than Kompas
      3) midfield ranks:
      Silva 1st
      Yaya 2nd
      Sterling 3rd
      KDB an unknown

If money no barrier then City involvement, imo, should be

    Mourinho on Hazard...
'If you are the best in the league, I think it should be a good responsibility to have a similar season than in the previous season.
'You have players who have fantastic seasons and fantastic moments and the next season do not have the same. If you ask me, 'Will I accept this and wait calmly for the performance level to be back?' No.
'I have to work, react, analyse and if I feel the players are not in conditions to react and give more, I have to make changes. I have never had a problem with that.'

Atleast he's noticing his players are underperforming and it's not refs/eva etc.. Really hope this gives Hazard a push to peform

Same here.. If he does hit form we'll have probably the best(And safest) differential in the league. Chelsea are not gonna suddenly drop out of the top 4 and Hazard wont suddenly score 150 points instead of his usual 200. i dont really need the spare cash atm so might as well keep

    Morning DZers!

Another sleepless night trying to figure out what to do with Hazard. At this stage I'll hold on to him in the faint hope that he rebounds post international break.

1 FT and 0.3 in the bank:

    Mignolet
    Alderweireld, Williams, Williams
    Hazard, Sanchez, Yaya, Mahrez
    Aguero, Gomis, Wilson
