The ScoutCast – Episode 168 – Casual

What makes a “casual” ScoutCast host? Perhaps one who takes to his bed even after a table topping 60-point return?

Despite bringing in his biggest haul of the season, leaving both Jonty and myself in his wake, Granville’s man-flu gets the better of him. Not to worry, Luke, aka “D1sable”, drops in to fill his evening slippers, helping steading the ScoutCast ship as we prepare to cross the choppy waters of another community fueled episode.

Luke and I look on enviously while Jonty gets dewy eyed about Dimiti Payet’s Monday night returns, before we switch attention to the fortunes of the Fantasy Football Scout crowd, scanning their Gameweek tallies in another bout of “Rough with the Smooth”, which this week includes a precautionary tail of a Fantasy Football rage injury.

We round off, as always, with another bout of community questions, assessing the lure of the five-man midfield, strikers and their desperate quest for bonus points, the great “casual” debate, whilst entertaining the idea of making Kolarov our captain. The season could hardly be more bizarre.

Ok.. so to people saying we wont get the lineup before deadline.. well we WILL get the Chelsea team before deadline. All 5 weeks this season the lineup has come out a minute before deadline. It helped me do Ozil to Sanchez 2 weeks ago when Ozil was out and i've been monitoring it all season.. the lineups have always come before the deadline so far

Yup.. just clarifying that we have got the lineups before deadline every week so far. My life has been sad enough to notice these kind of things 🙁 ..

Theoretically yes.. Realistically it'll be a benching/starting decision if Pedro is rated 50-50.

Mou said he "thinks" he is out for sure.. Basically contradicted himself with thinks and Sure 😆 .. anyway my point was more about how we HAVE been getting team linueps before the deadline so if anyone needed to get last second doubts cleared it is possible.

The recent comments tab on this site 😆 .. this week for eg i could keep my team ready with Pedro out for Silva ready on my transfers page. all it takes is one second to make the move. Though i'm just gonna decide about starting/benching him this week. if he starts on the Chelsea bench i'll bench him for Shelvey at the last second

I like your style. I wouldn't do this if I had two FTs because I know my internet connection would break just at the wrong moment and lose me a transfer. but I do remember points last season when I had a 50/50 decision which would have been cleared up had I known the teamsheet (i.e. will Mourinho start an "injured" Costa...)

I'm finally getting worried about Sanchez. I watched his highlights last week and chose not to buy him because he just seemed to be taking pot-shots when the goal was blocked. But he has hit the post a couple of times, now, so getting closer. His ownership level means that if he does finally knock a couple of efforts in, his value will go up pretty much over night and I won't get a chance to buy him.

Having a tough time deciding what to do this week. Have got Pedro & Shaw (plus Targett). and just one FT. Not keen on taking a hit for a DFer even if it means playing Martin away to Pool. So should I do:

    Pedro >

    A) Coutinho (No Tekkers)
    B) Ayew (Have Gomis)

    Also play:

    1) Targett (Martin back-up if Bertie is back)
    2) Westwood (AOA chip)

    Thx for any replies

Shaw problem depends if you trust 3 defender this week. If you do he can wait.
I did Pedro->Payet but was also thinking Ayew. Dont like Coutinho at the moment.

Away to Stoke who have't won yet. They're bound to win at some stage and possibly keep a clean sheet. Leicester also due a defeat. They were quite lucky last week.

Yes, the restrictions to squad sizes is also a very good idea.

Restriction to loaning goes hand in hand with this: if we count a loaned player a player in the squad, then nobody will loan players out excessively anymore. What Chelsea in particular does now, is that they buy dozens of young players, sign them to very long contracts, and loan them out until they either integrate them to their team or sell them - for a good profit if they succeeded, with low costs if they didn't. In their way to riches, they destroy careers of many of these talented youngsters while leaving other clubs short of talent they would want to honestly integrate to their teams.

Smaller squads, no transfer fees = no need to loan a player out. The players can calmly stay in their clubs and when they have enough success to break into a bigger clubs first team, so that that team also is confident enough that they can waste one valuable squad place for a couple of years on that player, then he can himself choose which team suits him the best.

I don't see how it would change things positively, clubs would just offer players more money surely? And what would be the point of smaller clubs developing youth players if they just move to another club for no money? Saints would have lost Bale, Walcott, Ox, Shaw, Clyne, Schneiderlin et al for nothing.

"And what would be the point of smaller clubs developing youth players if they just move to another club for no money?"

This would definitely benefit smaller clubs as larger clubs a) don't develop their own talent as much today and b) larger clubs gobble up talent because they can and then let them rot on the bench or put them on loan.

"Saints would have lost Bale, Walcott, Ox, Shaw, Clyne, Schneiderlin et al for nothing."

Why would they lose them for nothing?

Read the whole thing, this is a package, not one thing only. They couldn't get all the young players, because then they would have to let their experienced ones go. And that would not be possible if their contracts were quite new. Also, bigger clubs wouldn't have to hog the youth talent, they could wait longer for them.

I think football would benefit immensely from this. The amount of talent getting wasted in current system is just saddening. If these changes would be executed in their totality, it would allow more of the talent in football to really blossom, in different clubs.

It's quite a long article with several distinct parts, there are some parts that I think are well thought-out (in this case, dealing with the third parties) but there are others that I just can't see how they'll work out, in this case, abolishing transfer fees.

So, in answer to your question, no. I 100% support capping of payments to agents.

But in regards to abolishing transfer fees, what are they trying to introduce, a socialist football system? We have to understand that not every club can be a big club, each club has a different fan base size, there's no way Bayern can be equated to Crewe. I hope you can see a different angle here. That's the whole purpose of having a market. I wish I could have access to that 20-page Fifpro document so that I can analyze this better

Oh, "get rid of agent fees", even better.

I also like very much limiting the squad size and forbidding the loan system. Simply: no more talent hogging. The best teams could still get the best players, but they would have to be more selective and there would be more good players left for smaller clubs as well. This could in fact reduce the number of transfers.

Add a salary cap to that, and it would level the field significantly.

Banning transfer fees is already good for it 1) reduces possibilities for money laundering; 2) should drop the ticket prices.

I really hope that Fifpro wins this case. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Like the good old times when football was not all about speculation on transfer fees.

Anyone who has Gomez (bought at 4.5) tempted to buy Moreno as a sub(4.7) ? That way your pretty much guaranteed to have the Liverpool full back along with your big hitting defenders eg bellerin/Kolarov
