Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 8

Gameweek 8 saw two more players topple off the Suspension Tightrope as we head into the second international break of the season. Sunderland centre-back Sebastian Coates was the first guilty party after earning his fifth yellow of 2015/16 in the second half of yesterday’s home draw against West Ham.

Coates will now miss the Black Cats’ trip to West Brom next time out as the Wearsiders prepare for life without Dick Advocaat after the Dutchman resigned earlier today.

This afternoon, Coates was joined by Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has now been booked in five of the first eight league matches in his new central midfield role. The 10%-owned defender, who had been drafted in by over 25,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prior to today’s caution, will now miss the Gameweek 9 home encounter with Liverpool.

Despite losing those two to suspension, the Tightrope now boasts ten faces – three more than last weekend.

Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Jack Colback, Billy Jones and Dele Alli all remain on four yellows and are joined by five new entries this time round. City pair Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandinho incurred the referee’s wrath in yesterday’s 6-1 romp over Newcastle at the Etihad, whilst West Ham’s Mark Noble is another fresh recruit after collecting a yellow card in the 2-2 stalemate at Sunderland.

Oriol Romeu is also added to the mix. The midfielder picked up his fourth caution in as many league starts for Southampton against former club Chelsea yesterday – he’s managed that feat in just 371 minutes of top-flight action. Earlier today, United full-back Matteo Darmian found his way into the referee’s notebook in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

The weekend brought further woe for the Black Cats, with Jeremain Lens set to miss the Gameweek 9 trip to the Hawthorns. The Dutchman – whose goal in yesterday’s draw means he played a part in five of the Wearsiders’ eight goals under Advocaat – was dismissed after receiving cautions for fouls on Carl Jenkinson and Winston Reid either side of the half-time break against the Hammers.

In terms of newly available players, Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Watford’s Valon Behrami and Everton wide man Kevin Mirallas are all in the frame in Gameweek 9 after they served the last of three-match bans for violent conduct this weekend.

Seems Martial owners are rushing for the exits. Bandwagons like that tend to end in tears.
A bit unfair. How bad was he really, compared to the rest of United?
His fixtures were always tough after Sunderland, and it is unrealistic to expect returns every game.

Rushing for the exits? Why? He easily would have scored today on another day(or GK lol) and he looks dangerous all the time really, deff holding.

Had a lot of touches in the box and was very advanced. I was considering keeping him even on a WC. Definitely worth holding

I agree completely. Just judging by the martial -> Pelle/Lukaku posts.
If you bring him in, or anyone for that matter, it should be for more than a couple of weeks.

The return vs Sunderland wasn't really worth an FT to get him in, and another FT to get rid of him.

I think people always had an early exit strategy in mind. He was always a short term punt for me to see if he could be all that. It helped having a WC handy

Eriksen is getting in stride while Mane has been in stride. That doesn't mean much but I notice it's better to get players early on form rather than later. Plus Eriksen is on set pieces and is great at them. Spurs are a solid team and Southampton are getting there after another destuctive summer.

Of course not every player reaches form for the same period of time. Or does as well. I think Mane is a good pic. Although as I don't have him and don't intend on getting him I hope he doesn't do so good.

Tomorrow night I have company in the office training someone who I can just tell will panic at the first scent of problems. So unfortunately I may need to curtail my messing about on here. Although I could just give him menial work to keep him out of the office. The work pick up could do with a good clean maybe. Would that be cruel

I agree you have to give him a chance. I was thinking of buggering off and doing some menial work myself and letting him run the office but being within reach if he needs me. If I could just fanny about on here all night it would be best but it seems a bit obvious.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I personally hate the A-league and the quality of football within the league, but its always on TV. At least having a fantasy team makes me enjoy it more when watching it, I'll probably end up being a casual any way 😛

And what you may forget is that Newcastles defence was awful last season as well. Yet Janmaat was one of the highest scoring defenders at the end of the year. He will score points.

Could it be worthwhile making a few estimates on what the best defensive lineup might look like before you delve into the stats? It might be useful to flesh out any biases.

Or FFS biases. Its like a scientific theory where you start off with a hypothesis then you do run with a method to draw research and you run conclusions based on that. It will inform your initial hypothesis and might explain something more.

He is nailed until Mason and Bentaleb come back. Poch would play both of them over Alli imo. Remember that his two assists today were simply from getting fouled, and Eriksen converting the resulting FK's. Deceiving.

West Brom fans hate him. Most want him dropped on twitter and their main forum. Plus I don't understand Lindegaard signing just to sit on the bench, something just doesn't feel right. The first goal against Palace was crap goalkeeping as well.

I've still got McCarthy unfortunately and I don't like having only one keeper not to mention one that isn't even 100% nailed. If I got Butland I wouldn't transfer out Myhill, I'd keep Myhill until he got dropped then sell him for either his replacement or another 4.0-4.5.

I've had Hennessy since GW1 and have accepted his price drop. I can't sell him now.

Seeing as he's starting now, that looks a prescient choice. I'll keep him all year at his price.

Why on earth would Myhill get dropped? If anything he's been their best player this season

It still amazes me that an ape was washed upon the beach in Hartlepool once and they hung it as a suspected French spy.

What a way for Phil Collins to go.
