Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 8

Gameweek 8 saw two more players topple off the Suspension Tightrope as we head into the second international break of the season. Sunderland centre-back Sebastian Coates was the first guilty party after earning his fifth yellow of 2015/16 in the second half of yesterday’s home draw against West Ham.

Coates will now miss the Black Cats’ trip to West Brom next time out as the Wearsiders prepare for life without Dick Advocaat after the Dutchman resigned earlier today.

This afternoon, Coates was joined by Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has now been booked in five of the first eight league matches in his new central midfield role. The 10%-owned defender, who had been drafted in by over 25,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prior to today’s caution, will now miss the Gameweek 9 home encounter with Liverpool.

Despite losing those two to suspension, the Tightrope now boasts ten faces – three more than last weekend.

Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Jack Colback, Billy Jones and Dele Alli all remain on four yellows and are joined by five new entries this time round. City pair Eliaquim Mangala and Fernandinho incurred the referee’s wrath in yesterday’s 6-1 romp over Newcastle at the Etihad, whilst West Ham’s Mark Noble is another fresh recruit after collecting a yellow card in the 2-2 stalemate at Sunderland.

Oriol Romeu is also added to the mix. The midfielder picked up his fourth caution in as many league starts for Southampton against former club Chelsea yesterday – he’s managed that feat in just 371 minutes of top-flight action. Earlier today, United full-back Matteo Darmian found his way into the referee’s notebook in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal.

The weekend brought further woe for the Black Cats, with Jeremain Lens set to miss the Gameweek 9 trip to the Hawthorns. The Dutchman – whose goal in yesterday’s draw means he played a part in five of the Wearsiders’ eight goals under Advocaat – was dismissed after receiving cautions for fouls on Carl Jenkinson and Winston Reid either side of the half-time break against the Hammers.

In terms of newly available players, Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Watford’s Valon Behrami and Everton wide man Kevin Mirallas are all in the frame in Gameweek 9 after they served the last of three-match bans for violent conduct this weekend.

    janmat in for azpi and yaya to kdb for -8 worth it?
    chelsea might keep a cs against villa. but if I wait any longer I wont able to afford kdb

      -8 is a big hit. Say 0.2 price swing worth 3 points (for the season), that is still more than a goal to make up. Azpi and YYT may be fit and playing so I don't see this as worth -8

    Morning DZ, which of these look best? Quite tight on budget so might need to make a move early...

    A) Coates -> Moreno/JEvans/Davies
    B) Huth -> Janmaat
    C) Pedro -> Walcott
    D) Save

    Ruddy
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Huth
    Sanchez, Pedro, Mane, Mahrez
    Aguero, Pelle, Vardy

    Rudd, Sinclair, Coates, Targett
    Bank 0.6m, 1FT

    Should I go Silva > KDB for a hit or do people think they will even out. I am absolutely kicking myself for not doing it two weeks ago and now silva has dropped 0.1 and KDB has risen 0.2. So far KDB has matched Silva's 2 assists but has 2 goals and some bonus points as well. Is it too late? Worried about KDB being rested? Silva injuries?

      Wait until the international games are over in case of injuries if you can afford. If you can't then I'd probably take the hit. Another tough call.

      That is a real tough one. Silva will get his points, and it comes out of the wash a bit sideways. But, KDB is a real livewire and has taken to the Prem like a fish to water. I just picked him up an hour or so ago because I've seen enough to know I don't want to go any longer without him.

    Already used my FT.. I'm at the top of all the small leagues involved. Willing to take hits if it will really improve my team. I badly need to sort out my attack but unsure who to sell after Ayew's good showing last night.

    Butland

    Dawson, Kolarov, Cedric

    Ayew, Mahrez, Sanchez, Hazard, Payet

    Ighalo, Aguero (c)

    Subs: McCarthy, Jerome, Richards, Gomez

    ---- May not be this GW but I need to downgrade my mid to upgrade my FWDs..

    Who should I sell? Have 1.1 itb

        I agree. It is the long period of non performance from Kun which led to his captaincy being so low and all of a sudden a select group of players did really well. But a lot of highly owned options failed as well really polarising peoples results.

    @Cheeseoid

    Super work on the rank, son! You have Mata, I have Ayew but otherwise the sane front 7. Can we drop anyone for a Soton attacker?

      I am not at this point unless someone gets injured. I do like Mane though and was quite close to having him instead on Mata in the first place.

          No probs. Yeah, similar mindset, which is reassuring. I don't think you can drop Mata and I don't think I can drop Ayew all factors considered. In the voice of Churchill, I think it is time for Operation Bertrand.

          FPL has gone bonkers! 🙂

            LEI could be tightening slightly as Ranieri want's to buy the squad pizza! 🙂 But seriously, that's why he dropped Mahrez the other day. Perhaps Mane and co. won't be so profitable. Then there's a new manager at Liverpool for the Anfield match.

            I think saving the transfer will be valuable for me. My team lines up very nicely for next week if everyone remains helthy. not tempted by the might Janmaat? My key to the top 100

              haha just pondering Bertrand, Souare, Dawson but I'm a Janmaat cynic I'm afraid...

              ...at least until peer pressure on here dictates otherwise. 🙂 Cheers man.

                I will be benching Cedric in favour on Janmaat myself. I doubt Southampton will keep a clean sheet in the next match.

    Guys, the best defender to have at the moment out of these lot

    A. Ward/Souare
    B. Any of the watford guys like Nyom
    C. Hutton
    D. Anyone else? Janmaat etc

      I love the look of Souré. He is next on my hit list (as an Oxford upgrade).

      Watford have good form but I feel more confident in Palace's team right now.

      If it wasn't for the fixtures, a WAT defender is as good as any right now esp at home.

        ..and of the present lot, I like Martinez. He always makes me cry when he does that special "long lost greeting" to rival managers at the start of the game.

        Steve Bruce had the same effect.

      2. Koeman
      3. Pulis

      Lots left in Mahrez IMHO. Did you look at Norwich team stats for GW8? Ranieri made right call

      I like boldness of the moves though. Watching Eriksen myself, can't squeeze in Silva/KDB without surgery

      Depends on how many players you want to change in your team.
      Whichever Everton,etc. players you would want then, can be bought with FTs and careful planning.
