Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – International Round Up

Eden Hazard scores one spot kick but misses another for Belgium. Kevin de Bruyne is also in the goals for Marc Wilmots’ side. Georginio Wijnaldum nets for Holland but Tim Krul is forced off with a knee injury, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson scores as Iceland draw with Latvia.

De Bruyne Form Continues

Kevin De Bruyne scored an inch-perfect free-kick for Belgium in their Euro 2016 qualifying encounter against Andorra to continue his rich run of goalscoring form.

The Scout Says: Given that Sergio Aguero and David Silva may well be set for spells on the sidelines, while Yaya Toure is in a race to be fit for Manchester City’s home tie against Bournemouth next weekend, De Bruyne stands out as the prime source of Sky Blues coverage. The former Wolfsburg star has flourished since his switch to England’s top tier, racking up three goals and two assists in his last three starts. Looking at the past three Gameweeks, only Alexis Sanchez carded more shots on target (six) than De Bruyne (five), who also placed in the top 10 for key passes (eight). With match-ups against the Cherries, Norwich (home) and Aston Villa (away) over the next month, the stage is set for De Bruyne to sustain his laudable productivity.

Hazard’s Spot of Bother

Eden Hazard scored one penalty and missed another as Belgium romped to a 4-1 victory over Andorra. As well as the afore-mentioned De Bruyne the likes of Simon Mignolet, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld all started for Wilmots’ side, whilst Nacer Chadli appeared off the bench as a late sub.

The Scout Says: Hazard has now missed two of his three penalties for club and country this campaign, following an abysmal second effort for the Red Devils last night. Although the reigning PFA Player of the Year notched one goal and two assists in his previous three league outings, Hazard’s performances – bar the Arsenal encounter – have fallen well short of his lofty standards. From a statistical viewpoint, the 11.3-priced midfielder ranks joint-third among midfielders for key passes (28), but is ranked 32nd for attempts (12), underlining his limited goal threat. That being said, his 27% ownership will be hopeful of a revival as the Blues prepare to host an Aston Villa outfit that shipped eight goals in their last three road clashes.

Mixed News for Newcastle

Georginio Wijnaldum fired a low strike into the bottom corner to open the scoring for Netherlands in a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan last night. On the injury front, Tim Krul fell awkwardly in the closing stages and, according to Holland boss Danny Blind, may well have sustained a “bad injury”.
The Magpies stopper left the stadium on crutches and is set for scans to ascertain the full damage.

The Scout Says: Wijnaldum has been relatively impressive during the Magpies’ eight-match winless streak, offering the most quality of their struggling midfield contingent. The Dutchman has racked up two goals and an assist so far, earning 30 points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game – double the tally of any Newcastle midfielder. Valued at 6.8, Wijnaldum is likely to be at the nucleus of his attacking play if they can discover their groove during an excellent run of fixtures (NOR, sun, STO, bou, LEI, cry). Krul’s potential absence, meanwhile, would promote Rob Elliot as a budget option between the posts. With Karl Darlow also injured, Elliot – at just 4.0 in FPL – would offer Fantasy managers a cut-price route into Steve McClaren’s backline as the Magpies look to climb the table.

Darmian Amongst the Azzurri Goals

United’s Matteo Darmian netted a long-range effort during Italy’s 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan. Southampton’s Graziano Pelle featured from start to finish for Antonio Conte’s side but failed to play a part in any of the goals.

The Scout Says: Darmian turned out a host of assured performances for United through the first five Gameweeks but has since been substituted at half time in each of their last two road matches. The Italian’s propensity for picking up yellow cards saw him clamber onto the Suspension Tightrope last time out after he earned a fourth caution of the campaign in the 3-0 loss to Arsenal. With Luke Shaw injured and Daley Blind classified as a midfielder, the 6.3-priced Chris Smalling looks the safest route into the Red Devils’ rearguard for those eyeing up their kind schedule from Gameweek 11 onwards.

Sigurdsson Notches in Iceland Stalemate

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored an excellent solo effort in Iceland’s 2-2 draw against Latvia. The Swansea playmaker dribbled from inside his own half before slotting into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The Scout Says: Priced 0.1 below Sigurdsson, at a cost of 7.2 to 7.3, Andre Ayew – who’s notched four goals in eight starts – has emerged as the choice route into Swansea’s midfield this season. Although the Iceland international lays claim to more shots (18) than the Ghanaian winger (17), only five of these (compared to Ayew’s 13) were from inside the box, illustrating his penchant for a long-range effort. The Icelandic international has struggled to rediscover the form that racked up seven goals and ten assists last term and has just one goal and a single assist to his name. With a largely favourable quintet of fixtures (STO, avl, ARS, nor, BOU) to follow, Ayew –providing he recovers from a knock that forced him to withdraw from Ghana duties – looks the likelier source of points for Garry Monk’s men.

Well, Fletcher has been poor, except for his other game v Gibraltar.
IDK with Maloney, he didn't start last game, rested to start today? He's PK 1st choice, too

Not rested to start today, but should start now that they've had 5 withdrawals, I'm on Fletcher over Maloney based on the first game, but having a PK against these teams is always a good idea...

I'm thinking something like Ibra/Fletcher/Janko and buy slovenian midfield
Not yet sure about Janko tho because I'll have an austrian mid too

        Henne + 4.5M

        Cedric - Kolarov - Davies + 2 rotating 4-4.5's

KDB - Mahrez - Payet - Sanchez - Haz (Sterling)

    Thoughts guys?

    ruddy/butland

    sagna/targett/dawson/richards/gomez

    mahrez/sako/hazard/sanchez/ayew

    kun/diouf/vardy.

Need to ditch kun but sagna/targett/gomez/sako all failed to play last week and diouf in and out

only 1 ft but accepting a -4 at least is necessary.

thinking bellerin/lukaku for kun/gomez - that leaves me cash to get kun back in a month. Would rather upgrade targett tho as gomez may get a game now?

What r people thinking for captain...for me it's down to the following 3....

Sanchez...but concerned with gametime after internationals and ahead of champs league...

Kdb....but will city struggle without kun, Silva and maybe yaya.

Pelle...kinda think I'm heading that way at moment....

    What do u reckon?

    1. BlzE_94
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 8 months ago

      Mane or Pelle for me
KDB no longer a good option with Kun/Silva out
Sanchez has Watford who are good defensively

    2. AIRMILES
      • 12 Years

I have Mane and Pelle, and can see both of them doing well at home to Leicester. I'm not tempted with Sanchez, as Watford seem pretty tight at home. But KDB would get it if I don't hand it to a Soton player. I think Bournemouth will bring the game to City, rather than parking the bus, so KDB should get a number of chances.

      Might go with Mane though.

indeed. in fact it was so bad I used my WC as i was struggling to getan XI out without taking big hits.

I have Pelle and Ighalo, and I know I should be getting Lukaku but I still have Martial at the moment

I'm probably getting Pelle. Kane has not bad fixtures to be honest. His stats are very good but his performance based to what I've seen is not solid at all. Could be a massive differential.

Can anybody help me out for Silva replacement here, I've narrowed my options to the following:

    A) Hazard
    B) KDB
    C) Eriksen
    D) ??

I'm thinking to do Silva ➡ Hazard as they have good fixture coming up but form is a worry thou.
KDB looks st. swap but worried about his effectiveness in absence of Kun and Silva.
    Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Got sanchez and dont want to double with Wally for now as they have tough european fixture coupled with tricky league fixture. I'm really tempted to bring in Haz as some Chelsea cover as I'll be getting Pelle For Kun. Dont Fancy Haz?

It's nice to see someone considering Eriksen. I wish I could fit him in mine. He's such a high quality player, but they don't have an easy run of fixtures. I think it's best not to touch Chelsea players until they get over their slump. KDB is the best option, imo.

      KDB is the straightforward call.

I'll advice waiting before getting Hazard and Eriksen looks good on paper. It's between the Dane and the Belgian for me and the latter gets the nod just cos I feel he's got an easier run of fixtures.

Good call on Kev - the majority of his points have come from assists to Aguero or goals from Aguero/Silva assists - so we've no idea how he'll get on without them. But you'd hope he'll fill in the void left by them.

Cheers Pas, Yes i'd like to see how KDB does in absence of some of there quality players. So holding back for now. City generally struggle without Kun let alone the duo. Feeling Hazard is at the end of something big coupled by there good upcoming fixture. Surely he has to turn his form at some point.

        1. Pasqualinho
          • 15 Years

I'm pretty sure he will improve too. But not so sure he'll hit last season's score, which he'll need to in order to justify the 11M+ price tag.

Hazard is one of few players who can justify his price tag and turn his form on its head. If Hazard improves Chelsea improve teamwise. Hopfully he can do a Sanchez in coming weeks but thats really wishful more than anything. Its a risk i'm willing to take for now.

My defence is in absolute ruins:

Kompany, Williams, Jevans, Gomez and Oxford. Every weeki get an injury which needs more attention.
Iv got to sort aguero and silva this week. Am i right in saying its better to have no defender than take -4 for a new one? I will fix oxford next week if no other major injuries...

If you can't field three defenders, a hit to bring one in is effectively only -2 and might be positive within a week.

I wouldn't say that. The problem is unless you've got money to spend there aren't any defenders worth a hit. Janmaat at best, but you're proberly talking Bellerin as being the only one with the fixture this week.

    Lamela--->Mane
    Aguero---->Pelle
    Fletcher---->Walcott
    Kolarov---->Bellerin

It's a lot, but looks like it'll pay off, imo. Would give me this:

    Begovic
    Bellerin Dawson Williams (Cedric, Browning)
    Mahrez Sanchez KDB Walcott Mane
    Sakho Pelle (Martial)

Would rotate Mahrez, Martial and Sakho. Points may end up on the bench, but surely my point ceiling is higher now?

That looks like a really good team, but I still think there'd be too much value in your bench which can otherwise be used in your starting 11, would be a problem to get Aguero in when he's all fit again.

If you do go through with this, I think Kolarov to Bellerin can wait.

Gomez owners would you keep him and see what happens ? Interesting quotes by Klopp.

‘When I manage a club, each young player should smile because the chance is bigger for them than it ever was,’ Klopp.

‘The door is pretty wide open and I don’t care about experience. Experience is an important point, but not the most important.

I won't be too optimistic. LB isn't his natural position too and I just think Moreno fits well into Klopp's style. If you don't have any pressing issues, I'd get him out.

A draft league question on Spurs fullbacks: Will only injury dislodge Walker or Davies at this point?
