The Watchlist Updated – Gameweek 9 – The Forwards

Having run through the changes among the defence and midfield over the past few days, we’re completing our look at the latest movements on our Watchlist with an analysis of the forwards. With three goals and four assists in his last trio of appearances, Graziano Pelle moves all the way to the top of our ladder in light of Sergio Aguero’s hamstring injury, whilst Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis takes a tumble after drawing blanks in each of his last four matches.

With that sensational form and some favourable fixtures (LEI, liv, BOU, sun, STO) over the next five Gameweeks, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle moves to the top of our rankings. The Italy international is the second most transferred-in player over the international break, with over 174,000 new owners in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), seeing his price rise to 8.1. The former Feyenoord man leads all forwards for shots inside the box so far this season with 32, seven clear of his nearest rival Aguero.

Another forward that has been unstoppable over the last few weeks is Leicester’s Jamie Vardy. Priced at 6.7, he has scored six goals in his last five outings, and leads all frontmen for shots inside the box (17) over the last four Gameweeks. With a reasonable slate of fixtures (sot, CPL, wba, WAT, new, MUN) on the horizon, the England international’s strong run of form could continue for some time yet.

The stock of Romelu Lukaku continues to rise with Everton’s difficult start to the season nearly behind them. The Toffees face Man United and Arsenal over the next two weekends, but thereafter their schedule is very favourable (SUN, whm, AVL, bou). The Belgian has averaged 11.5 points per appearance over the last two Gameweeks, and looks poised to become a genuine contender for a spot in our three-man frontlines in the coming weeks.

Although Anthony Martial has been very impressive in the early stages of his career at Old Trafford, the fact he’s only managed five shots from inside the box over the last four Gameweeks is a cause for concern. United also face a tricky stretch on their schedule (eve, MCI, cpl, WBA, wat, lei), particularly in the short-term, and while the France international represents great value at 8.4 in FPL, now is probably not the time to invest in the former Monaco striker.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo continues to be the stand-out budget option for Fantasy managers, having netted four times in as many matches. The Hornets frontman only sets us back 5.3 in FPL, and while he faces difficult home match-ups against Arsenal and Man United over the next six Gameweeks, he also faces four reasonable fixtures (sto, WHM, lei, avl). The Nigerian also leads all forwards for bonus points accrued this season, with 10.

Sergio Aguero remains on the Watchlist as we await confirmation of his hamstring injury from Manchester City. Certainly, the Argentine’s suggestion that he could be out for a month has already sparked plenty of sales and if, as expected, he is indeed ruled out, then it’s fair to say that Wilfried Bony, at 8.2, would be elevated in the rankings ahead of clashes against Bournemouth, Norwich and Villa in the next four Gameweeks.

The big faller in our latest refresh is Swansea’s Bafetimbi Gomis, who has seen his price in FPL drop from 7.5 in Gameweek 6 to 7.1 now. The good news for the Frenchman’s remaining 20.1% ownership is that he faces four favourable fixtures (STO, avl, ARS, nor, BOU) over the next five Gameweeks, and has managed a reasonable 10 goal attempts in his last four outings. Should the former Lyon forward fail to deliver the goods against Stoke and Aston Villa, however, his ownership looks certain to keep dwindling.

With four home matches on the upcoming schedule (LIV, bou, AVL, ars, WHM, CHE), Harry Kane moves up a couple of spots on our ladder this week. The 9.2-rated forward was very unfortunate to score an own goal against Swansea last time out, but with chief creator Christian Eriksen now back to full fitness, his prospects certainly look brighter. Bearing in mind he’s only found the back of the net once this season, though, Kane is unlikely to attract significant investment until we see him rediscover his sharpness in front of goal.

The start of the campaign could hardly have gone much worse for Diego Costa, but with the Spain international now back from suspension, and facing a favourable run of fixtures (AVL, whm, LIV, sto, NOR, tot), we may start to see the best of the Chelsea striker. Available at 10.9 in FPL, the former Atletico frontman could be worth taking a chance on, given he has an ownership of just 5.5%, for those looking to make up lost ground in mini-leagues.

Although Liverpool are bottom of our Season Ticker for the next six Gameweeks (tot, SOT, che, CPL, mci, SWA), Daniel Sturridge sneaks into the final place on our ladder in the hope that Jurgen Klopp’s arrival will provide some fresh impetus at Anfield. The 10.5-priced forward has managed an impressive 10 goal attempts in just 251 minutes of pitch time this season, and providing the new boss hands Sturridge the lone striker role, he could yet defy the tough schedule and reward his 4% ownership over the coming weeks.

    Butland
    Monreal, Bertrand, KOLAROV
    Mane, Mahrez, kdb, Sanchez, Payet
    Pelle, COSTA

    (Hennessey), JEROME, Souare, SIMPSON

    to this:

    Butland
    Monreal, Bertrand, ALDER
    Mane, YAYA, kdb, Sanchez, Payet
    Pelle, VARDY

    (Hennessey), AYOZE, Souare, NYOM

    Decent or worse?

I like this team better. Spurs have looked solid, and they finally look like a Pochettino team! Gary Neville had this awesome analysis about Spurs and how they changed from a team that was very lazy to one of the most fit and distance covering teams. So yeah, good choice!

Picking a Southampton defender is quite a dilemma. You can't really go wrong with Bertrand, I am contemplating getting him or van Dijk myself. Didn't you have Davies?

Ayoze is better than Jerome, I like this pick to be honest! Could go both ways, but he seems to be settled in the side and he is cheap. I think Newcastle will improve the coming weeks, they played decent against Chelsea and 1st 45 against City. Your new midfield looks awesome, there are so many good choices at the moment that a big five is very appealing.

      Overall. I would say better!

I still have doubts about Nyom, but you're always gonna get that with a 5th defender. If Bellerin is cheaper than Monreal I would also swap them but this is looking quite nice.

Speaking of which: what do you reckon to this lot on a wildcard?

    Butland / Hennessey
    Bellerin / Jagielka / Williams / Cedric / Simpson
    Sanchez / KDB / Walcott / Cabaye / Ayew
    Pelle / Lukaku / Vardy

Would ideally like Hazard in there. Would it be better to replace Walcott and Ayew with Hazard and a 4.5?

    1. Sterling Chap

Based on the failure of his surrounding team. I wouldn't want Haz right now.

        Same here.

Yeah, I've had him since the start of the season and he has been very disappointing but has been so reliable for the last two years for me and if Chelsea kick back into gear, he's the only player I'd want.

It is definitely time to ditch for the shot happy Arsenal
Mids though. Would be so much easier to get shot if he wasn't home to Aston Villa next

      Tough one.

Kolarov represents a higher risk/reward than the others, so it depends on whether you want to take that risk. He also took penalties when Aguero and Yaya were of the field so that's a big plus and his crossing is always dangerous. The negatives are injuries, rotation and a leaky defence without Kompany.

How many funds do you have to make?

Dier is on 4 YC, so I guess he would go, even if Spurs have looked solid since Dawson isn't going to make you a million by swapping him out.

        Need to find .6m.

Dier is suspended v Liverpool. then he has a clean slate. I would like to keep him for the foreseeable.

I would like to keep Kolarov at least until Clichy is back fully fit. I too don't like rotation. maybe ship him GW10 (Man U).

Is it nuts to be looking at a punt on Willian on WC? I know he's had two relatively lucky FK's in the last two games, but he's kind of got a first team spot pinned down for the time being? And, at 6.8, he's not the biggest gamble.

Would you ditch, on a WC, either to get in both KDB and Sanchez

    A) Payet

    B) Ayew

Try again on the current article. 🙄

At what point will FPL Towers red flag Aguero?
Given he has said he's out injured and I have known red flags for players when a rumour appeared in the press.

Wondering exactly this. Has it all been some elaborate plot!? Or perhaps they've changed their policy on red flagging players and they now wait till official confirmation

It will only have happened this week if so. Maybe they wait until confirmation of the date he is due back.

Often red flagged players have no return date. I think most likely they are being extra cautious and not taking the chance, however small, that he plays

Probably when the club announce it - they haven't commented yet, although I believe they will assess the injury today.

Major makeover for my defence and perhaps goalkeepers:
    Have 35.8 to spend.
Been trying to fix this for over 2 hours :/

      On first impressions and fixtures.

      Butland (4m) = 8.5
R.Martin, Williams, Dawson, Colocinni, Bertrand =24.5

Pelle, they will crowd Mane out with huge numbers in Defence.

Assuming Kompany is out, or just to free up some funds, who would you replace him with?

    Team looks like this:

    Ruddy Butland
    Kompany Richards Cameron Dawson Darmian
Sanchez De Bruyne Payet Mahrez Fletcher
    Aguero Gomis Vardy

I'm probably doing Aguero > Pellé
Then I'm thinking Kompany > Bellerin next week, and
Gomis > Lukaku for GW 11

When Sergio is back on his feet, I will have ~4,7 in the bank with prices staying around where they are now. That means I can't get him in for neither Pellé nor Lukaku. So:

    Which defender for

Hm, looks like it's the "less than" that messes up the post. The sentence was supposed to read "Which defender for less than 5.4 would you get for Kompany? "

      C) is drastic but would sort you out.

WC I'd just make sure you have allowed for all the fixture changes occurring over the next few GWs
Once we commit to the WC there is no second chance if we cock it up.

    WC team

    Myhill/Butland

    Cedric Bellerin Davies Dawson Simpson

    Sanchez KDB Mane Payet Mahrez

    Pelle Vardy Martial

5th def is a worry but I normally only play 3 defenders anyway unless it's pretty much a given for a CS.
