Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 9 – Monday

Bojan Krkic hands Stoke a third successive league win with a first-half spot-kick at the Liberty Stadium. Bafetimbi Gomis blanks for the fifth straight Gameweek, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson drops to the bench as Swansea’s poor run of form continues.

Bojan Wins it for Potters

Bojan Krkic netted from the penalty spot to earn Stoke City a 1-0 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium – the first time they’ve recorded consecutive road victories since December 2011. The Spanish forward claimed his second goal in four leagues starts since returning from a long-term knee injury, highlighting his potential as a third striker. Priced at 5.3 and taking precedence over Charlie Adam on spot-kicks, Krkic could well deliver points on a budget as Stoke lock horns with the likes of Watford, Newcastle and Sunderland over the next five Gameweeks.

The Staffordshire outfit had no clean sheets to their name through the opening seven Gameweeks but have now kept the opposition out in their previous two match-ups. Considering that the Hornets – who rank bottom for goals scored (six) this campaign – are next on the agenda, Jack Butland’s 8.5% ownership will be hopeful of a third successive shut-out. In terms of their rearguard recruits, Geoff Cameron’s 4.5 price tag and security of starts renders him an attractive squad filler over the short term as Ryan Shawcross closes in on a return to fitness. With the fixtures turning against the Potters from Gameweek 12, though, long-term investment in Mark Hughes’ men looks less appealing.

Swans Toils Continue

Swansea are now winless in five outings following their home defeat to the Potters and have triumphed in just two of their last 11 league encounters. Allied to that, Garry Monk’s men have failed to secure a clean sheet in six of their previous seven fixtures, frustrating Ashley Williams’ sizeable 9.5% ownership. Nonetheless, an upcoming road tie against an Aston Villa side that’s drawn a blank in all but one of their home clashes this term portends an improvement on that front.

Bafetimbi Gomis and Andrew Ayew were hugely ineffectual: the former mustered just one attempt on target and was continuously flagged for offside, while the latter didn’t card a single shot at goal. Both players currently sit in 19% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides and have scored one goal between them (courtesy of Ayew against Spurs in Gameweek 8) in the last five league matches. Whilst many will be keen to part company, the Swans square up to Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth in the next four and may yet profit from that favourable run.

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey entered the referee’s notebook for the fourth time this season, putting him on the precipice of a one-match suspension – as the Swans’ top creative outlet (18 key passes), his potential absence would influence our assessment of their attacking prospects. Gylfi Sigurdsson’s diminishing band of owners will be looking for the exit door, though, after the Icelandic international was benched for the first time this term, as Garry Monk opted for Modou Barrow in the attacking midfield slots instead.

    Completely unrelated to FPL but some reassurance/advice would help;

Basically, a girl and I are competing for a job found for us by the same recruiter. We've both had the final stage interview and just waiting for the decision. However, I'm worried that because the recruiter has lined me up with another job (got the final stage next week) and that afaik she hasn't got anything else lined up, that the recruiter will tell the firm I don't want the job if I do get offered it. This way the recruiter will get paid for finding both of us jobs.

Thinking into it waaaaay too much or is this something to worry about?

    Cheers,

If you do not get the position then go directly to the employer and ask for details as to why you wree not offered the position. I do think you are being paranoid though and the recruiter is obviously not in his right to do that.

It's only because something similar happened to me before. More to do with different roles in the same company. Basically, I had interviews for 2 roles, preferred the second and when the recruiter got back to me she said they wanted me to do the first one. I found out a few months into my new job that the company actually wanted me to do the second job and the recruiter told them I would rather do the first.

Since then I have found it hard to trust them completely. If I don't get it I will contact them directly to find out though. Thanks.

Contact the company directly cutting the recruiter out. Express your interest. Can just be a follow up email to the final interview. Thanking them and saying you excited by the opportunity and look forward to their decision.

That might be something to worry about. Legitimate thinking to be quite honest. Not sure you can do much about it rather than contact the company and say you are looking forward to their decision and thank them for the opportunity. Something along those lines, thank you letters work wonders.

Personally no but saw Vardys stats from last weekend and he topped them all. Either would be a sound choice. Palace at home is not going to be easy. Their away record is pretty strong since Pardew arrived. I would go with your gut. San(C)hez for me with (V)ardy.

Oh really? Found an article on Wikipedia that said that the original Fantasy association football was created in 1990 in Italy and introduced in England the following year when Fantasy League was set up. Seems way too early for this format at least I thought.

Your reply is way more credible. Cheers Hooky!

If you look at John Terry's history in the FPL transfer page the first season he has points for is 06/07 and he was playing way before that. I've been playing since then as well and think I started when it was first launched.

There are plenty of other fantasy football games that started in the 90's but they were mostly through the newspapers - The Telegraph, Mirror and Sun games have been going for a long time.

Fantasy League and other Fantasy Football games have been going for over 20 years. I remember picking Andrea Silenzi of Nottingham Forest (yes, really) for my team in 1995/96 in a Fantasy Football competition in either Shoot or Match magazine.

FPL has been going longer than 06/07, it's just that the 'Previous Seasons' section on the website only goes back that far. I have an e-mail saved from August 2004 inviting me to join someone's league, and I distinctly remember playing it even as far back as 2002/03. For one thing, it must have been going before 06/07, because Ruud van Nistelrooy left Man Utd before that season started, and in the early years of FPL the main choice was RvN or Henry.

Hope that helps in any way.

Tempting aren't they? Kept Martial for that reason. Certainly considering Mata...possibly.

I don't know. With Mata playing only 45 mins, and Martial on the wing, seems to me like there's no any clear option there.

The Butland and Myhill combo doesn't look great for GW's 12 & 13
Have to play either CHE or mun GW 13 and sot or ARS...hmmm maybe a keeper switch on the cards..is a goalie transfer a waste though?

Stick imo. Both are long termers for me. You could get someone else in and they concede. Neither stoke or West brom will get hammered. 2 gaols conceded at most. Ride the storm and it will clear.

This is probably a dumb question. When looking in the members area at the positional map for each player in an individual game, how do I know which player is represented by which number? Is it somewhere on the page itself?

Elliot (sun) - Newcastle are looking iffy at the back but Sunderland are looking worse up front, could get a few saves.

Begovic (wha) - Chelsea looking awful at back, wont get any saves, West Ham will score

    Kolarov Azpi Francis Bertrand Richards
    Sanchez Payet KDB Maherz Westwood
    Pelle Martial Igahalo
    1 FT, 5.2 itb

    1) I believe FT should be used on Kolarov but for who:
    A) Bellerin
    B) Toby
    C) Coleman

    2) Is it worth getting Vardy in for a hit? If so for who:
    A) Martial

      1) bellerin, but just a footnote, Kolarov is back on Oct 31 so it could be woth considering keeping him
2)yes it absolutely is, for Ighalo. Watford are up against an in form stoke, which made rubbish of Swansea attack on Monday. Martial could be too hot for MCity defence to handle

1B. Should provide the most immediate return.
