Scout Notes – Gameweek 9 – Monday

Bojan Krkic hands Stoke a third successive league win with a first-half spot-kick at the Liberty Stadium. Bafetimbi Gomis blanks for the fifth straight Gameweek, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson drops to the bench as Swansea’s poor run of form continues.

Bojan Wins it for Potters

Bojan Krkic netted from the penalty spot to earn Stoke City a 1-0 win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium – the first time they’ve recorded consecutive road victories since December 2011. The Spanish forward claimed his second goal in four leagues starts since returning from a long-term knee injury, highlighting his potential as a third striker. Priced at 5.3 and taking precedence over Charlie Adam on spot-kicks, Krkic could well deliver points on a budget as Stoke lock horns with the likes of Watford, Newcastle and Sunderland over the next five Gameweeks.

The Staffordshire outfit had no clean sheets to their name through the opening seven Gameweeks but have now kept the opposition out in their previous two match-ups. Considering that the Hornets – who rank bottom for goals scored (six) this campaign – are next on the agenda, Jack Butland’s 8.5% ownership will be hopeful of a third successive shut-out. In terms of their rearguard recruits, Geoff Cameron’s 4.5 price tag and security of starts renders him an attractive squad filler over the short term as Ryan Shawcross closes in on a return to fitness. With the fixtures turning against the Potters from Gameweek 12, though, long-term investment in Mark Hughes’ men looks less appealing.

Swans Toils Continue

Swansea are now winless in five outings following their home defeat to the Potters and have triumphed in just two of their last 11 league encounters. Allied to that, Garry Monk’s men have failed to secure a clean sheet in six of their previous seven fixtures, frustrating Ashley Williams’ sizeable 9.5% ownership. Nonetheless, an upcoming road tie against an Aston Villa side that’s drawn a blank in all but one of their home clashes this term portends an improvement on that front.

Bafetimbi Gomis and Andrew Ayew were hugely ineffectual: the former mustered just one attempt on target and was continuously flagged for offside, while the latter didn’t card a single shot at goal. Both players currently sit in 19% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) sides and have scored one goal between them (courtesy of Ayew against Spurs in Gameweek 8) in the last five league matches. Whilst many will be keen to part company, the Swans square up to Villa, Norwich and Bournemouth in the next four and may yet profit from that favourable run.

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey entered the referee’s notebook for the fourth time this season, putting him on the precipice of a one-match suspension – as the Swans’ top creative outlet (18 key passes), his potential absence would influence our assessment of their attacking prospects. Gylfi Sigurdsson’s diminishing band of owners will be looking for the exit door, though, after the Icelandic international was benched for the first time this term, as Garry Monk opted for Modou Barrow in the attacking midfield slots instead.

use my FT for Ayew to Wijnaldum?

Mainly for cover as I'm currently 1st in my mini league but 2nd place is gaining after WIjnaldum's 25 point haul.

Scared he will get another brace in the derby!

You're probably right. I want Vardy but i'm a Palace fan and I really don't want him to score at the weekend!

After last night I think Swansea assets are done. Wijnaldum looks good, but will probably be fairly short term.

I didn't see the game was he really that poor? I know they have Villa next but without form the fixture is irrelevant surely..

Gomis got most of the flak but they were all horrendous. If this sort of form continues Monk will get sacked by Christmas.

    Help needed please guys.....

Someone in my draft league is offering me Gomis & Lamela/Shquiri in exchange for Pedro & Berahino.

Yay or Nay given it's draft/long term?

Saying Yes would mean I could use some of the Pedro money to upgrade my 4.5 defenders to Toby or Moreno etc.

      I'd keep Pedro and Berahino.
If any maybe sell Pedro but not for Lamela/Shaqiri.

Played my WC, avoided hits and dropped 100k places. This game ...

    Butland, Henessey

    Bellerin, Bertrand, Coleman, Moreno, O'Shea

    Sanchez, Hazard, Payet, Mane, Yaya

    Vardy, Pelle, Ighalo

Despite last GW, I don't think I need to change anything, do I? Obviously I'll hope for a Haz reaction in midweek.

I have made my first big error of the season.

Took out Kolorov 2 nights ago to get Bellerins price rise, thinking Kolorov would be out a while.

Could get worse if Bellerin gets hurt or is rested this weekend 🙁

So it's not an error yet?

you call THAT a big error? i made two early FT's before international break for price rises on pelle and dawson. gomis out, fine, and azpillecueta out, who kept a clean sheet. was then struck by 3 injuries, and took three hits (-12) to fix the team. ended up having kompany as my kolarov replacement and he didn't play (a literally pointless hit), and then naughton was kept out of the 11 so i made 5 transfers overall and had 2 players not play. to make matters worse mahrez only played 45 and my 1 defence sub scored a 0.

Reading the previous article, I found it wildly unhelpful. Gomis being " continuously" flagged offside is exaggeration. Sigurdsson was benched, but came on, and was a foot away from scoring what would have been one of the goals of the season.
OK, Swansea aren't playing anything like they can. And the omission of Ki in particular, is baffling; there's got to be credit given to Stoke for that.

    Smooth?

    I did -12pts

    out:
    Ruddy -1pt
Kolorov - (Would have played Huth for 1pt)
Aguero (Would have played Richards 2pts)
    Hoolahan 1pt

    In:
    Myhill 8pts
    Bellerin 10pts
    KDB (c) 10pts
    Ayoze 10pts

My hits worked out perfectly 🙂

Is it g2g or do I need to make an additional transfer

    Myhill
    Bellerin, Moreno, Richards
Mahrez, Ayew, Sanchez, Payet , KDB
    Vardy(c), Pelle

    Bench: McCarthy, Ighalo, Francis, Naughton
    ITB: 8m
    FT: 0

Should I take a hit and make additional transfer,
    a. Ayew -> Wijnaldum/Eriksen
    b. Ighalo -> Lukaku/Costa
