Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 10

Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

      I'm not sure if we can say he is back in form after one game but potentially you're right. Although after the Villa game he has 4 thought fixtures in a row so for me there is no urgency especially with so many other good forward options.

    What move to do this week? 1FT, 1.8M ITB

    Myhill / Butland
    Kolarov / Monreal / Azpi / Richards* / Whittaker*
    Mata* / Alexis / Payet / Mahrez / Westwood
    Costa* / Pelle / Vardy

    I know Costa and Mata were disappointing but I think I'm ok giving them a little longer with their fixtures in the next 5/6 as they're my only attacking differentials. Mata being subbed is a concern though. Original plan was to get in a SOU defender this week.

    A) Whittaker > Bertrand/VVD
    B) Mata > up to 10.6m (KDB/Sterling/Ozil/Mane/Eriksen)
    C) Save FT
    D) Costa > Kane/Bony
    E) Something else

      We have pretty much similar team and I will probably bring Sterling in if it looks like Pelle will play 4-4-2.

      I would bench Mahrez and play AOA next gw which looks much better for using that chip.

          I have decided to play 3-5-2 when Kun comes back and probably something like:

          Sterling -> Barkley
          Lukaku -> Aguero
          Pelle -> Ighalo / Fletcher

          Saving 2Fts for int. break so it would probably require only one hit

          All these teams look so much better without Aguero because there is so much to be spent throughout the team, there are some good looking attacking 8's out there now.

    I'm in the terrible position that Mark posed to Granville.

    I own Martial, he's a cheap striker for Man Utd and he has decent fixtures.

    But his he worth taking up a forward spot in my team given Man Utd's lack of creativity?

      Oh, I've kept myself well prepped to bring Aguero in. I could do it this week for 1FT. After my transfer this week I'll be 2FT away, and will probably rectify that before he's back fit.

        6.5 is too much, as is 6.4 for Smalling. Meh.

      I think it is due to goal threat. Of he starts every game he is probably priced about right. The problem is some others are priced better than alright!

        I'd go for him in the second if he stays injury free and plays whole season. He was such a beast in Valencia!

      If FPL Towers had have known the number of cleansheets that City were going to get at the start of the season, all starting City defenders would have been 6.5M.

      At the time of Otamendi's purchase, their defence was impregnable, and Kolarov and Kompany's values were sky-rocketing. Hence, they started him at a higher value.

    Who should I captain next week? Currently on Mané.

    A) Mané
    B) KDB

        Mané- better form, at home, against a team who have conceded 10 in 2 games... Still a no brainer?

    Which to choose with 2 FT, exact 0.1 mn in bank so much less flexibility

    1) B.Davies(no longer 1st choice) + Dawson---> Phil Jones + Simpson
    2) B Davies + Lukaku---> Moreno + Bony
    3) Dawson + Lukaku--> Phil Jones + Bony
    4) Dawson--> max 4.6mn defender?
    5) Waste 1 of the 2 FT

    Current Team
    Hennesey Butland
    Bellerin Bertrand Dawson Bdavies Souare
    Mane KDB Sanchez Payet Mahrez
    Pelle Vardy Lukaku

      KDB for sure but Sterling if you are looking for differential.

      I'm sticking with KDB. Purely because when a decent striker returns (aguero not bony) sterling will be less likely needed to fill bony's dead space.

    Janmaat (STK)
    Evans (LEI)
    Cedric (BOU)
    Bellerin (swa)

    I also have Myhill in goal.

    Font 8 for gw11:-
    Sanchez payet mane Mahrez KDB
    Vardy ighalo berahino
    For gw12(if no injuries)
    Sanchez payet mane Mahrez kdb
    Vardy ighalo lukaku/Bony
    Which looks better for AOA?

    Sanchez - Mane - Ayew - Mahrez - Hoolahan
    Martial - Pelle - Vardy

    Bank: 6.7 mln

    Hell of a headache tbf

    I badly want KDB, but the only mid I'd like to drop is Hoolahan. Although I will be facing A LOT benching dilemmas from now on, I believe..

    On the other hand, I think I wanna get Lukaku / Kane in for Martial, who isn't actually serving me as I was expecting.

    What transfer should I make? Ready for -4 even...
