Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 13

Southampton’s Graziano Pelle is the most high profile of this week’s Suspension Tightrope protagonists after collecting a fifth yellow card of the campaign in yesterday’s home loss to Stoke.

The Italian will now miss next weekend’s trip to the Etihad and, although he will return in time for a plum home clash against Villa in Gameweek 15, it’s fair to say the exodus is picking up pace – over 120,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have already parted company as we scramble to bring in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero.

Pelle earned a late caution for kicking the ball away as his barren run continued – he’s scored just once in the last five Gameweeks. Post-match, Ronaldo Koeman was unhappy over the Italian’s lack of self-restraint:

“It’s all about the frustration of the player. He was not playing well, he was not scoring and the team was not winning, but you have to control yourself always. That’s difficult, we know. But, okay, if it doesn’t happen today maybe it happens next week. It’s always a question if you are one booking from a suspension. It’s always when, when, when it happens. Okay, normally you have to control yourself. He knows. We know. We have to accept it and we will play another [number] nine next week.”

Pelle is one of six players to succumb to a one-match Tightrope ban so far. Liverpool will be devoid of Lucas’ services for their home encounter against Swansea next weekend. Swansea’s Jonjo Shelvey will also miss that Anfield encounter – handed the role in “the hole” at home to Bournemouth, the former Red bagged himself a goal and assist before earning his fifth yellow of the season.

Over at the Hawthorns, Tony Pulis has decisions to make at left-back after Chris Brunt picked up his fifth booking in the Baggies’ home win over Arsenal – the Northern Ireland international now misses next weekend’s trip to West Ham. Mark Noble will also be unavailable for that one after earning his fifth yellow in today’s loss at White Hart Lane, whilst Dele Alli will be absent as Spurs host Chelsea next weekend.

There are now 17 players on this week’s Tightrope, with Gameweek 13 handing us five new entries. Bournemouth playmaker Matt Ritchie, Leicester centre-half Robert Huth, Norwich’s Seb Bassong and Liverpool pair Emre Can and Nathaniel Clyne are the men in question.

Palace duo Wilfried Zaha and Yohan Cabaye, along with Sunderland’s Billy Jones, could yet topple of this week’s Tightrope – all three go into tomorrow’s night’s match at Slehurst Park on four yellows apiece.

In terms of newly-available players, Tottenham will welcome back Erik Lamela for next week’s trip to Stamford Bridge after the Argentine served a one-match ban at home to West Ham earlier today. West Brom will have Gareth McAuley available for their clash with the Hammers after the Irishman missed yesterday’s win over Arsenal.

Slaven Bilic’s side, meanwhile, will be without the services of James Collins once again – the Welshman serves the last of a three-match ban against the Baggies.

Yaya to Alli/Lanzini/sub 4.5 later to free up Aguero cash(you will end up being forced to get him in at some point). Janmaat out looks a better option this week

So I've just woken up from ZZ to catch the DZ talking about NZ

I hope that has grabbed your attentions and I'll get a few replies to my query 😀 This is my current front 8

    Mahrez Mane Ozil KDB Sanchez
    Vardy Martial Lukaku
    Have 2 FT and 0.2itb

Thinking of doing a triple swap
    KDB > Haz
    Mane > Alli
    Martial > Kane

    Pros.
Hazard looks to me like how Sanchez was before his hattrick week.
Alli is playing well and will be suspended for the next game so my bench is sorted.
    Kane is on fire.

    Thoughts?

Ppl will say you are crazy for considering Hazard but he looked fantastic vs Norwich. I'd monitor him for one more game though since it's spurs away and consider getting him the week after.. especiially since you'd be swapping KDB for a hit!
Mane to Alli and Martial to Kane looks fantastic.. if you dont want to go in the Aguero direction that is

I just realised that I don't have many differentials in my team. Should I be looking to do so with this team so that I can' make up ground on the leaders as I seem to have the same players that the higher ranked players have. I've already taken a -4 hit this week (Pelle & KDB out - Aguero & Deulofeu in).

    Butland, McCarthy
    Smalling, Bellerin, Kolarov, Richards, Ake
    Sanchez, Ozil, Mahrez, Deulofeu, Redmond
    Aguero, Lukaku, Vardy

    Thanks.

You don't always need differential players. A combo that no many have is another kind of differential. AGUERO+ Sanchez + Ozil, your defense combo of: Smalling+ Bellerin+ Kolarov

Butland and Myhill have been a great pair for me! Both bought at 4.5.

Granted, I've made the wrong call once or twice but they've both delivered great points for me. In fact, I'm gonna compare my rotation points delivery to a "top" keeper... Back in few...

      2, 2, 4, 3, 4, 7, 1, 3, 8, 1, 11, 1, 6 = 53

versus 65 if I'd have played Butland every week

Worth noting that the first two 2s were from Ruddy, when I started with the less effective Rutland rotation.

I have missed an 11 and an 8, for Myhill and Butland respectively, when the other scored 1, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

I'm happy to think I've got Butland now while he's in form, and Myhill in reserve for when WBA's fixtures turn again (although he may be at risk from Foster at that stage)

defences play better against better teams and are more apt to get bonus points - check the stats but a good keeper is a good keeper period - stick with butland or de gea ...

        1. Jøssy ⭐
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

I think the point is though, Butland was a "cheap goalie" at the start of the season. Only now do people see him as a 'play every week' kind of player.

You're right though. There's argument that Myhill will never see the light of day again.

    6. Jøssy ⭐
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

To answer your actual question though, I think it's less about, "will DDG (for example) provide more reliable returns?", and more about "will he outscore the cheaper goalies by far enough to warrant the extra cash?"

Historically, the top scoring keeper in the table is rarely a Cech, Hart or DDG. And even if you don't hit on the Butland, Fabianski or Jaaskelainen of this year, the difference between a middle of the road goalie and the top scorer in the entire league is usually not vast.

This year may be an exception, though, as Utd's clean sheets have been fairly consistent so far, and FPL have narrowed the gap in price to the expensive keepers, but only time will will....

If so, Firmino fits into that category! 😀

    de Gea, Myhill
    Richards, Williams, Bellerin, Aldeweireld, Moreno
    KDB, Sanchez, Mahrez, Barkley, Ozil
    Vardy, Pelle, Lukaku

1 FT available and 0.6 ITB

Still can't make up my mind to shift KDB or Sanchez out to bring in Kun and Kane for Vardy & Lukaku

    A) KDB, Vardy, Pelle out for Stanislas, Kane, Kun
    B) Sancez, Vardy, Pelle out for Stanislas, Kane, Kun

If I go for B, I get to upgrade Williams for Bertrand. Needed a defender from the Saints tho.

    A.) Hendo or Willian?

    B.) Kone or Deeney?

Anyone else feel liberated when binning players knowing they will never return (sick of em) eg Pelle last week, Giroud last year, Phil Jones, Kun a few weeks back? Simplifies selection.

It would have to involve downgrading kdb or sanchez and ditching vardy.

I have a feeling ditching vardy at the right moment could be crucial I'm FPL....too early could be costly, but likewise, missing out on Kun hauls could also be costly

If you must; KDB and Vardy out to Kun and Coutinho/Barkley.

It is a very useful method of assessing/predicting goals as it focusses on quality of chances

This is why in xG , Coutinho is nowhere near the top 10 but his SoT are among the top 10

Pity he's less of a threat in the middle, Kane is clever in how he plays and I reckon Barkley et al will eventuallyfigure it out. Maybe its the frenetic nsture of playing in england that curtails creativity.

Barkley is one of the least effective playmakers in the PL imo

Dier is the future of England's midfield

Hi all, i need your advice on this. Do i go with

    A) pelle + mata > aguero/kane and 4.5m mid for a hit

    Or

    B) play mata (bench pelle) in a 3-5-2? 5th mid is barkley.

    Koscielny / Simpson / Moreno / nyom / wollschied
    Sanchez / ozil / mahrez / Barkley / surman
    Aguero / Lukaku / vardy

Hypothetical scenario.. Mahrez gets a short term injury ie one week. what do you do? A) play Surman for his 2 points. B) Play your 4th defender and it's very rare for you to have 4 of those defenders with a good fixture every week.. C) panic and take a hit/spend a transfer and get someone else in place of Mahrez(And sacrifice all that Mahrez value gain)
Basically my point is upgrade Surman to Gosling/Alli/Lanzini if you want to go so cheap in defense 🙂

Already done my transfers for next week , i hads to as pelle was decreasing and i had the exact value to do it 😛 what do you think
    DDG - (Butland)
    Bellerin - Moreno - Alderwiered - (Evans - WARD)
Sanchez - De bruyne - mahrez - Bolasie (Hoola)
    AGUERO - Vardy - Kane

Done Kolarov and Pelle ------> Ward and Aguero

I watched my team destroy city in the emptihad, yet aguero scored a wonder goal from nothing and he almost a differential in my legaue as only i am bringing him in 😛

Nice complaint when they both got cleanies this week. I had great success coypke of years ago rotationg Migs and Boruc (~165 points), even then it annoyed me. Prefer to pick a DeGea/Butland and leave.
