Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 18

Vincent Kompany lasts less than 10 minutes before limping out of City’s win over Sunderland. Palace are set to be without Yannick Bolas and Connor Wickham for up to a month, West Ham have worries over both full-backs, whilst Jamie Vardy played through illness during Leicester’s loss at Liverpool. Here’s our catch up with the casualties currently worrying Premier League and Fantasy Football managers alike.

Aston Villa
Carlos Sanchez is an early doubt for Villa’s trip to Norwich tomorrow after being forced off with a foot injury during the weekend draw against West Ham.

Chelsea
Eden Hazard returned to contention with a brief 15-minute run-out at the end of Chelsea’s home draw against Watford. Guus Hiddink went on to say:

“[Eden] Hazard came back in the last week and had two training sessions and we hope he can be fully fit”.

Unconfirmed reports, however, suggest Hazard left Stamford Bridge limping after the 2-2 draw.

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew has been dealt a bitter blow in the final third after revealing that Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham are set to be sidelined for up to four weeks.

Patrick Bamford is a doubt to face Swansea tomorrow, whilst Pardew played down knocks to both Scott Dann and Damien Delaney:

“I didn’t have an option to substitute them, they were fine, they are a couple of warriors. They played well today, it was a very difficult game, tactically, physically, mentally. We need to rest now before our next game on Monday.”

Leicester
Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy were withdrawn during yesterday’s loss at Liverpool due to fatigue, Claudio Ranieri has confirmed. The Foxes boss also revealed that Vardy played through illness at Anfield:

“I hope we can recover. Now it is important we recover physically but more mentally. We have another big match coming up, another big challenge. Both were tired and Vardy played with a fever and I didn’t want to give him more minutes. I wanted to preserve him.”

Liverpool
Divock Origi started up front in the Reds’ win over Leicester but was subbed off before the break due to a hamstring problem, according to Jurgen Klopp:

“They spoke about a little cramp. We will see. I hope it’s not too serious. We have the next game in three days and six days the next, nine days the next – I hope he can play in one of these games.”

Daniel Sturridge has declared himself fit for the midweek trip to Sunderland, whilst Jordan Ibe is a doubt after missing out through illness yesterday.

Man City
City have concerns over Vincent Kompany yet again after he emerged from the bench against Sunderland only to limp off within 10 minutes. Post-match, Manuel Pellegrini conceded his captain has suffered a recurrence of his calf injury:

“It is not the best news for Vincent. He was ready to return – I didn’t want him to play the whole game because we have to play so many games. He worked the whole week with normality and it is difficult to see what happened. We will see tomorrow with the doctor’s report. It is the same injury – his calf.”

The Chilean also went on to issue an update on Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Fernando ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Leicester:

“Kun was on the bench in case we needed him in the second half. In three days, we have a difficult game at Leicester and then 10 games in January. He had a small problem so it was better for him not to take any risks. We were winning 3-0 in the first half so it was better for him to rest. He will be 100% on Tuesday. Zabaleta and Fernando worked over the last two or three days but although they are fit, they are not ready. Against Watford, both of them will be in the squad.”

Southampton
Ronald Koeman has revealed that both Graziano Pelle and Cedric Soares will remain on the sidelines with the injuries that caused both to miss last night’s home win over Arsenal:

“Both players will be out for Monday. They need more time and we have to see how long everything takes until they are back to full training. Graziano is struggling for a few weeks now with his knee. We had a plan to give him some days off doing treatment and no training.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed Sheridan Shaqiri “will be ok” after the Swiss international was withdrawn against United yesterday. Glenn Whelan (calf) is a doubt, whilst Hughes is “hopeful” on Geoff Cameron, who was subbed off with a recurrence of a hamstring problem.

Tottenham
Mousa Dembele is doubtful for Spurs’ clash with Watford, according to Mauricio Pochettino:

“It’s a knock on the same ankle but we hope it’s not a big issue. We’ll assess tomorrow and see if he is ready for Monday.”

West Ham
Slaven Bilic is sweating over the fitness of both James Tomkins and Aaron Cresswell after the full-back pair were forced off during the Hammers’ draw at Villa:

“It’s very frustrating to have both full-backs out of the game [during the course of it]. With Tomkins it’s a situation that long-term it’s nothing serious but his eye is shut and the problem is the game is in a couple of days time. Cresswell, he felt some tightness and it was a precaution [to take him off]. We have to wait until tomorrow.”

    Aguero is finished.

He may have got the 25 point weekend, but that is the ONLY time he has scored more than 6 points in a GW all season. He does not justify the outlay and setting up your team to fit him in later on does not make sense anymore.

When he was cheaper. Is he really worth 3.5m more than Kane, 5.5m more than Vardy or 7m more than Ighalo?

He's extremely explosive and when he's a differential, there are few better. But still, it's a very viable strategy to go two mid-priced forwards + cheapo and load up on premium mids.

When he suddenly comes up with another haul the same people who doubt him will bring him in again.

      This happens almost every season

Demi, to what you said regarding Ighalo a page back, sure, I understand where you are coming from. Then again, there is no sign at all he is slowing down yet, compared to Vardy. Ighalo seems really high on confidence, while Leicester just lost their first in ages, are playing City, and Vardy having a niggle as well.

My alternative is simply Aguero, which could be genius but also end in tears.

Might just leave Vardy too, of course, but have this sneaking feeling that we might see the ketchup effect in terms for losses/draws for Leicester now.

both have bad fixtures.. I say gru got a real chance now, Benteke could be an option as well but I already have coutinho and Moreno and that's already too much reds in my team

Yeah, all good points. My reasoning for ignoring Ighalo is probably silly, but i just don't see the appeal looking at the next 2 fixtures in isolation. If he proves me wrong, then he'd have to be labelled fixture-proof. Vardy against a Kompany-less City and home to Bournemouth could be very good. I think they will score although may still lose/draw, though his fitness needs to be monitored. Hopefully get news tomorrow. I feel the timing for Aguero also isn't right yet. He'll be fully refreshed in a couple games time, and i'll be getting him then, as opposed to against the two surprise packages of the league this season

    deulofeu > KDB I'm short 0.6m
    so
    Smalling > Cresswell as well.

But both would be for a hit or do I just do one transfer a week and miss 2 weeks of KDB

    Current mid:
Ramsey & Ozil, Mahrez, Barkley & Deulofeu

Has to be Butland over Gomes this week right? Spurs seem to find a way to score, and Watford D took a little ding after conceding 2 to Chelsea.

Neither, but if insisting on those two, pick Butland.
Gomes sure to concede, Butland might get lucky if Ighalo...

50/50 imo. But Butland can get you those save points

    Considering the following moves
    1 Lukaku > Kun
    2 Ddg> Butland

    This leaves mw with

    Butland
    Souare Bellerin moreno
    Mahrez kdb wijnaldum ozil
    Kun ighalo kane

    Bench:alder Barkley simpson

My 5 players in front 7 are playing against each other
    Is that an issue?
    Thoughts??

    Thanks in advance

      I am guessing

      Cech

      Bellerin - Koscielny - Mert - Nacho

      Ramsey - Özil - Flamini - Ox - Walcott

      Giroud

Maybe Gabriel for Mert. Maybe Gibbs for Nacho.

I think OX will start too. Gabriel for Mert also very likely. My concern is Özil's minutes

Am I mad if I take out Coutinho for Ramsey before Cout has Sunderland away?

Just regret getting Coutinho so much, and feel I'm stuck in the "next fixture is good"-mire

I'm in the same position. Thinking of holding the transfer one more GW. If he blanks then he goes.

    Defense:

    DDG & Dier >

    a) Hennessey + Azpe
    b) Cech + Dann
    c) Other options?

    Midfield
    Mahrez Ozil Alli Barkley KDB

    a)Barkley > Silva?
    b)Save
    c)Other

    Attack
    Vardy Ighalo Lukaku
    a)Vardy > Aguero
    b)Save

      Defense:
I'm thinking of DDG and Dier to Lloris and Dann (or Dawson)

      Midfield:
      Save

      Attack:
      Dilemma, have the same problem

      Our teams probably look alike.

A lot of people keep saying that Olsson is not nailed on for WBA.

But he has now started 6 in a row with Yacob back in the team. Who is threatening his position?

Also, is Wolly a better option to go with this lot? And is he nailed on?

    DDG, Hennessey
    Bellerin, VVD, Moreno, xxx, Simpson

He's only started one with Yacob back, the rest without him. West Brom aren't keeping clean sheets, making him the most at risk if/when Pulis decides to change things up IMO. Not nailed by any means

That was probably due to fixtures as well though right?

Who dropped out of the back four with Yacob back? Brunt into midfield?

Last match was 5 at the back more like for Brom. Had 2 red cards from previous match.

Didn't Evans play at defensive midfield while Yacob was out? I think he has now slotted back into CB which makes Dawson Evans McAuley Brunt which leaves Olsson out.
