Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – Defensive Worries Ease for Hammers

Sam Byram and James Collins are expected to return for West Ham’s clash with Arsenal. Erik Lamela could be back for Tottenham’s showdown with United. Phil Jones and Ashley Young step up their fitness with a run-out for the Red Devils’ reserves, whilst Fabricio Coloccini could be back in the frame for Newcastle this weekend.

Hammers defenders on the mend

Slaven Bilic confirmed that James Collins and Sam Byram will be in contention for West Ham United’s home encounter against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Scout Says: With Byram back in contention and the fit-again James Tomkins afforded a bench role last week, owners of Michail Antonio will be optimistic he can now revert to a midfield berth. The ex-Nottingham Forest wide man has deputised at right-back or right wing-back in recent weeks and, having drawn successive blanks, has fallen behind Manuel Lanzini – who has netted in each of the last two – as our preferred budget Hammers midfielder. Priced at 5.5 to Lanzini’s 4.9, Antonio is owned by just 4% of FPL managers and with double Gameweeks 34 and 37 to consider, could return to our radars once again.

Lamela hopeful of weekend return

Tottenham Hotspur are optimistic that Erik Lamela will shake off a calf complaint in time for their home tie against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Scout Says: With just three goals and five assists, Lamela has been a peripheral figure on the Fantasy scene. In terms of Spurs’ midfield assets, Dele Alli edges out Christian Eriksen by way of his attractive pricing (6.2 compared to 8.6) and recent form (four assists in as many starts). Nonetheless, the Danish playmaker is also in the midst of a purple patch: aside from bagging one goal and assist in his last two outings, he ranked second among all midfielders for attempts (14) and shots on target (five) across his previous quartet of matches. Considering that the Lilywhites don’t enjoy a double Gameweek 34, though, Alli’s 32% ownership will be tempted to cash in – indeed, over 27,000 have already parted company since the weekend. Up front, Harry Kane is another matter altogether, however. Considering the forward has served up six goals, an assist and eight bonus points over his last four, it’s easy to see why many owners are having second thoughts over cashing in on Kane as we reassemble our Wildcard teams.

Defensive duo back for United

Ashley Young and Phil Jones were both handed run-outs for Manchester United’s U21 outfit for their clash against Chelsea last night, but Wayne Rooney was not passed fit to play:

The Scout Says: With Young and Jones now in the mix ahead of United’s double, the likes of Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind may well carry a greater rotation risk. The Argentinian left-back has chalked up five consecutive starts but was replaced at the break against Everton due to jet lag and lasted the distance just once in the other four ties. On a similar note, Antonio Valencia clocked pitch time in the Red Devils’ previous two match-ups, bolstering his case for starts ahead of Matteo Darmian during a congested schedule. Ultimately, Chris Smalling and David De Gea are the only sure-fire routes into a defence that charts bottom for home goals conceded (seven) this term.

Rafa hopeful on Coloccini fitness

According to Rafa Benitez, Fabricio Coloccini will return to training this week ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Southampton on Saturday:

“So he (Coloccini) will be training (this week) and we’ll see how he feels and then we’ll decide but the good thing is that if they are coming back then at least we have that competition and that can only be good for the team.”

The Scout Says: The Magpies recorded a solitary clean sheet in their last 16 outings, giving us little reason to invest in their defence before back-to-back home clashes (SWA & MCI) in Gameweek 34. In saying that, injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are set to afford Karl Darlow – at just 3.9 – a run of starts as Benitez attempts to stave off the threat of relegation. It’s further up the field where our main interests lie, though. Although he’s not scored for nine starts, Georginio Wijnaldum’s home bias (all nine goals at St James’ Park) renders him a left-field differential, while Aleksandar Mitrovic is the form man in the Tynesiders’ attack. Delving further into the Serbian marksman’s potential, he ranked fourth for attempts (15), third for shots inside the box (14) and joint-fourth for shots on target (six) among all forwards in their last four matches. Having started off the bench last weekend, his brace at Norwich surely puts Mitrovic in pole position to lead the line once again.

Main Captaincy Choices (based on previous form)

    Lukaku - (if his last 10 away scores had been in 5 DGWs) -7, 11, 4, 11, 15
    Barkley - (if his last 10 away scores had been in 5 DGWs) - 4, 5, 5,15, 9 Mahrez - (last 5 away scores) - 9, 11, 1, 14, 1
    Aguero - (last 5 home scores) - 2, 11, 2, 6, 16

    Differential Picks
    Bolasie - (if his last 10 home scores had been in 5 DGWs) - 4, (injured for 9 GWKS), 21, 5, 12, 4
    Lennon - (if his last 10 away scores had been in 5 DGWs) -12, 10, 5, 4, 3

    Form for each -

    Lukaku - 9.6
    Barkley - 7.6
    Mahrez - 7.2
    Aguero - 7.4
Bolasie - 9.2 (injured inbetween - since injury form is 2)
Lennon - 6.8 (although only signed in January)

From all this Lukaku looks as suspected the best captaincy pick, although with their fixtures Mahrez and Aguero's explosive form could come to light and punish those with DGW fever. Unless a miracle can bring Bolasie's pre injury form back he looks a poor choice and Lennon's form is on the up, rendering him an intriguing option for those chasing ranks or mini league titles. Barkley has been playing deeper, causing a drop in form, but with Martinez looking to improve Everton's poor form if he pushes Barkley back forward he is a strong option.

Most will put the armband on Lukaku so Aguero or Mahrez are not a threat, plus Aguero is only owned by 33% of teams.

What do you think of my WC draft?

    Robles
    Bellerín Otamendi Sakho
    Coutinho Bolasie Payet Lennon Sánchez
    Sturridge Lukaku

    Subs: Darlow Martial Koscielny Smalling

I have a loose plan to do Lennon and Bolasie to Lingard and Wijnaldum for GWK 34

i was considering sahko but he was awful against spurs and may be dropped. Lovern at 4.8 may be a better option as he has been liverpool's best defender recently and is more likely to stay in the team

the issue is with the liverpool defendersis that they have two games against dortmund over the next 2 weeks. Klopp mayu take this more seriously than the league so there a huge risk the likes of moreno, sahko, lovern, skrtel , maybe even toure are rotated around.

I think generally speaking this DGW is going to have a few of us pulling our hair out when players are rotated. Could be anyone especially at the back, even the likes of Bellerin is a slight possibility I'd say. Only the GK's are safe - if only we could play a back line of Goalkeepers.

My Almost set WC team for GW 33

    Hennessey/Mignolet
    Jagielka Bellerin Ward Sakho Simpson
    Sanchez Ozil Coutinho Payet Bolasie
    Kun Lukaku Mitrovic*
    0.4mn ITB

If I go for Martial over Mitrovic will his better AVL CPL matches be worthy over
    1) having to take a hit in GW 35 to field 11 and
    2) have 1 less DGW player @ Mignolet as will need to field Darlow instead of mignolet

Tough to call...Mitrovic makes things a lot simpler!

Realistically for me it's who will score more:-

          A) Martial/Defoe - AVL/CPL/ARS (-4)
          or
          B) Mitrovic - SWA/MCI/liv

  8. Mr Pink

Ok, with United's defenders coming back from injury, which option is best?

A: Smalling, Ozil, and get Kane for GW35
B: Smalling, Sanchez (-4), and get Vardy for GW35
C: Darmian, Sanchez (-4), and get Kane for GW35
D: Alder, Sanchez, and get Kane for GW35

D has the additional advantage that it leaves me with enough GW35 players to be able to do Alli => Lennon this week (-4) without incurring another hit for GW35. Yay or nay?

    1. Pompel
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

I'm liking D, you could also go cheaper with e.g. Dier/Walker.
But Smalling probably wirth the price for DGW34 if you can ship him afterwards.

Forgot to say that I already own Alder.

And as I wrote below, I will probably TC either Ozil or Sanchez in GW34. If I go D, would you incur taking a hit next week to get in Lennon this week?

I should probably add that I'll be playing BB in GW37, so getting in Sanchez for Ozil would be to TC him.

  9. Pompel
    • 10 Years
    8 years, 2 months ago

Still not decied whether to BB in GW35, but if so , how would you rate this draft:

    Hart Robles
    Smalling Gabriel Sakho Simpson Jagielka/Reid
    Sanchez Couthino Payet Iwobi Alli
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

    Martial -> Kane GW35

Alli might be Lanzini/Lennon, using extra FT in GW35 then. Might also downgrade Smalling in order to upgrade Alli to Liverpool mid.

Is it too risky to trust both Iwobi and Gabriel, especially for GW35?

That depends on a lot of things..

If a tree falls in the middle of a forest, on top of a man. and the man is crushed by that tree, but nobody else is around to see it happen, does the dying man make a sound?

Does his dog sense the loss of the tree or the man?

So many unanswered questions this GW JTD, so many.

Really tough decision. Who;d you prefer for dgw34 ?

    A) Martial(AVL CPL), Coutinho(bou EVE)

    B) Sanchez(CPL WBA) Mitrovic(SWA MCI) (own Ozil btw)

Cech & Robles rotation til the end of the season is dream like:

    GW33 - Robles (wat&cpl)
GW34 - Cech (CPL&WBA) or Robles (SOT&liv) or both if BB
    GW35 - Cech (sun)
GW36 - Cech (NOR) or Robles (BOU)
    GW37 - Robles (lei&sun)
GW38 - Cech (AVL) or Robles (NOR)

    So that can read: wat/cpl - CPL/WBA & SOT/liv - sun - NOR - lei/sun - AVL = 11 x GKs in six weeks, with only tough fixture being lei 😮

Try deleting the current squads. Go to Customize --> Profile --> Delete. From this menu you can select individual Squad updates and delete them. After this entering Ultimate Team or other Online modes will automatically download the latest updates.

Don't delete anything other than the squad updates!

A 40 tonne grain truck has crashed through the hedge and into my front garden this morning depositing 20 tonnes of grain three foot high all over my raised beds and thus ruining my onions, raspberries and rhubarb. Luckily no injuries except botanical ones.

Whilst I await recovery of the vehicle, so that I can survey the damage I thought "fantasy football" that's what I will look at. That's how obsessed we become with it.

Good luck to all for this very exciting period over the next few game weeks.
