Dugout Discussion – Sunderland vs Arsenal

In the first of two Premier League contests this afternoon, Sunderland invite Arsenal to the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats secured their first win in seven outings last time out, while the Gunners will look to extend a six-match unbeaten streak.

Despite ranking sixth for attempts (59) across their last four matches, Sunderland recorded just four goals, registering the fifth-worst shot-conversion rate (6.8%). Further bolstering the visitors’ clean-sheet prospects, Sunderland place joint-fourth-bottom for goals (17) and bottom for big chances (12) in home ties. On the flip side, only five teams have conceded fewer goals on their own turf than Sam Allardyce’s troops.

Arsenal were one of the league’s dominant attacking forces in their last four outings, charting joint-second for goals (10), top for shots inside the box (49) and second for shots on target (29). Moreover, no side has amassed more goals (32) and shots inside the box (164) on their travels than the Gunners. From a defensive standpoint, Arsenal surrendered the fewest big chances (zero) over their last four fixtures and boast three clean sheets in five.

In that case. Not looking good. Could be a flurry of goals late on though.

Aside from Blind -> defender, and Dier -> midfielder, reckon there'll be any positional changes for next season? Would personally like to see Martial back in midfield.

Always amazes me how teams can be inept all season and then start playing with a few weeks of the season left.

If Arsenal Draw/Lose today and Manchester United win all of their remaining matches + the FA Cup, do they qualify for CL?

Because City and Arsenal play each other in GW37

Arsenal and City have a better goal difference than United, so they could draw against each other and win the remainder of their games, meaning United would still be 5th even if they won all their games.

If Arsenal draw today, and the City match is a draw but both teams win all other matches, they'll be level on points but United goal difference significantly worse.

                  Winning FA Cup is irrelavent.

IF United win all their games, they'd be on Played 38, Points 71

Arsenal max points, 73. Citeh max 73. If Arsenal and City were to draw, 71 and 71 points each. If Arsenal draw today and draw City, 69 points.

                  This could get interesting.

Actually if either Arsenal or City were to win their remaining games, then that would mean 0 points for one of them when they play each other.

So if Arsenal won all their games 73 points finish and 70 points finish for City, assuming City win the other games.

or if City won all their games 73 points finish and 70 points finish for Arsenal, assuming Arsenal win the other games.
