Dugout Discussion – Italy vs Spain

The Round of 16 is concluded today with a couple more fixtures for Fantasy managers to consider.

First up at 5pm, Italy take on Spain for the right to meet Germany in the quarter-finals.

Both sides will be looking to bounce back from respective defeats to Republic of Ireland and Croatia in the final round of group matches.

Having swept aside Belgium and Sweden in their first couple of fixtures, Antonio Conte’s men will be confident of overcoming the defending champions, though will need to make do without the injured Antonio Candreva this afternoon.

The stats are somewhat in Spain’s favour for this one, though. Despite scoring just once more than The Azzurri so far, Vicente del Bosque’s side fired more than double the number of attempts on goal (51 to 25) and have allowed their opponents just 27 attempts on goal compared to Italy’s 34.

Poor finish from Eder when you see it properly - waist height right at De Gea.

The GKs positioning impacts the strikers decision

Eder saw where De Gea was positioned and then hit it straight at him? That sounds like a poor finish to me!

If he slotted it low straight at him then that's a decent option but waist height is terrible - if De Gea goes to ground he can still reach it and if he stays on his feet he can't get out of the way if he tries.

Agreed. Poor from Eder but GKs unsettle strikers and DDG did it well

Sure, I'm not trying to take anything away from De Gea, it was excellent goalkeeping, but a good striker scores that regardless. Eder didn't come anywhere near threatening the goal.

Eder: born in brasil, and named after one of my favorite and best left wing forwards of brazil ever, from 1982 brazilian team Eder. Just on that worthy of respect. plays for inter now.

WEder in 1982 made one of the best goals bomb ever against Soviet union.

his great grandfateher was from Veneto. thats why he has italian nationality. Same as me.

hes a proxy to so many brazilian players taken young w/ 10 -15 yrs of age and developed in Italy, then they attain their italian nationality via their ancestors.

Thiago motta is another. born brazilian.
