The Stock Check – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi guys

Give me your view: Foster, Heaton, Stones, Shaw, Friend, Francis, Marc Wilson, Deulofeu, Payet, Eriksen, Redmond, Bolasie, Negredo, Ibra, Aguero

Will Bolasie play for Everton or should I sub out for Capoue to upgrade Eriksen to Hazard?

    Thanks

Anyone know much about why Gradel didn't start on Sunday?

Was it just because it was Man Utd or is he not first choice? Who drops out for Gradel if he starts?

He'll start soon. He was great when he came on and a real threat.

My guess is he's being eased back in after coming back from serious injury and might not be ready for 90 minutes.

As long as there's no complications we don't know of I expect him to be a first team regular very soon.

For the record I don't think King will drop out but someone will obviously.

In pre season the word on the streets of Bournemouth was that Gradel and Howe had had a little set too, did not see eye to eye, a falling out as it were. After that Gradel then missed, iirc, the last 2? friendlies. No surprise then that he didn't start which is why I dropped him from my team. He's quality though so it should only be a matter of time before he's starting.

          Terrible advice imo.

Costa should of got a red, and with the new rules it shouldn't take long anyway. He's also allergic to bonus points. Expensive risk that will have you hiding behind the sofa each gw for other reasons.

Hazard is a much better pick.

              • 9 Years
              7 years, 9 months ago

It's a real tough one to be honest.

If it was me I'd probably hold and see if Vardy was unlucky against Hull and can redeem himself against a struggling ARS defence, and if Hazard can back that performance up from open play or if he will once again need to rely on pens that he may or may not be sharing with Oscar?

I don't think it's worth the hit now, but should be a move to think about after you get a greater sample to work from. One match isn't enough to go on right now.

The only thing we do know is that Costa hasn't changed and will do his best to get yellow and red cards instead of bonus points. πŸ™‚

    Morning guys.

Bit confused about the Sky game. Made 2 captain changes over the weekend (Kun -> Ibra -> Hazard) but for some reason Hazard's points aren't being registered this week and instead carrying over to next week.

It's also mentioning something about a gameweek deadline, but I can't seem to see a deadline anyway, and I'm pretty sure I changed to Hazard before the deadline.

Thinking of doing Alli -> Barkley. He looks really good. Has great fixtures and 1.0 cheaper. Whatyathink?

Yep I agree - may bring him in too if Ayew is out for a while. Fixtures look excellent and he looks in good nick.

I'm an Everton fan and I thought he was pretty poor. Looked totally lost in the second half. Koeman has commented that he needs to do more defensively. People wondering who is under threat from Bolasie. I'm wondering if Ross might be too.

No. Spurs fixtures are plum and Barkley was only OK. His goal came from one of those ridiculous free kicks that no one connects with and it happens to go in. Nothing special.

    Play:

    Amat (HUL) or Evans (EVE)

    Jakuopvic (swa) or Heaton (LIV)?

    Currently on Amat and Jakuopvic

With Vardy blanking and probably dropping, Ibrahimovic emerging as a must have, and Ayew most likely out, I've got a big dilemma with my team structure:

    Foster - Jaku
    Shaw - Evans - Friend - Kone - Souare
    Hazard - Ayew* - Redmond - Ramirez - Capoue
    Aguero - Vardy - Kane

    £0.5 tb

Team may look fine for this GW if playing Capoue over Ayew (I'm assuming he'll be out for a couple of weeks), but I think I'll have to restructure for the usual 2 expensive + cheap forward, and upgrade Ayew to e.g. Mane, Mahrez , Martial etc. Problem is, to do this I'd have to ship all of Ayew , Vardy and Kane to Ibra + £6.5 striker + £9.5 mid for a -8. And I fancy Kane chances to be as good as Ibra this GW, but want Ibra long term.. But if I choose to ship Ayew only, it'll have to be for a sub £8.0 mid, and then use a FT later to upgrade. Meanwhile, Vardy willl probably drop and Ibra rise this GW. So what do I do:

    a) Kane -> Ibra for free , keep Ayew for the time being
    b) Kane + Vardy + Ayew -> Ibra + Mahrez/Martial/Mane + Carroll/Negredo
    c) Ayew -> Tadic/Barkley/Lamela, to be upgraded later
    d) stick (Even if Aew's out)

    Your thoughts, guys ?

    Cheers

Good option long term probably, but means doubling up with So'ton ahead of ManU away though. Thinking BArkley could be a better choice to cover Everton's good run?

Thanks. Actually fancy Mane or Firmino more from Liverpool - and do not want to be forced to do the transfer today (which I'll have to do because of price rise

Leaning towards C) Ayew -> Lamela.. Although B is a viable tactic too, albeit a much riskier one.

Depends how much you want rid of Kane / Vardy but yeah I'm leaning towards C πŸ™‚

yeah, tough one, isn't it πŸ˜‰ ? Not afraid to take a hit though, but -8 is a bit much

Thanks, also feeling that's the most sensible. Although there's a risk with that option as well, in that I'll probably loose out on £0.2 negative price difference on Ibra + Vardy price changes. What about Barkley, you fancy him?

You're right, nothing wrong with a hit but a -8 already is a risky one. Not saying it won't work, but we don't have much to go on and the players you sell could outscore the ones you get.

Not mad on Barkley to be honest, sorry πŸ™

I like the look of Snodgrass, Ramirez, Lamela, Redmond, Tadic... and Ibra looked immense too

Hi guys advice needed on an optimum transfer please.

    Heaton (Forster)
    Stones Valencia Azpul (Morgan,Target)
    Hazard Redmond Firmino Lindgard (Albrighton)
    Kun Rooney Okozaki

First 11 has a few weak links but I'll have to stick with Firmino and Okozaki as at least they'll get on the pitch. So it's Lindgard, Albrighton or Target for the chop.

I'm thinking either Target to Williams or Albrighton to Bolasi - Everton fixtures look too tastey!

    Cheers

82 points, so far What to do going forward? Tinkering with the idea of letting Gray go for Negredo? Before the price rise, kinder fixtures.

    Foster - (Jaku)

    Stones - Valencia - Friend - (Amat - Pieters)

    Hazard - Mahrez - Lamela - Redmond - (Fletcher)

    Ibra (C) - Aguero (Vc) - Gray

    0itb, thanks!
