With two benchings and a missed penalty in Manchester City’s last pair of fixtures, some Fantasy managers are considering the unthinkable when it comes to Sergio Aguero’s place in their squads.

Our hot topics reveal just how low the Manchester City striker’s stock has plummeted as other players, particularly those among Arsenal’s ranks, start to look more reliable picks.

Our community articles examine Bournemouth’s latest moneyball prospect and there are further midfield gems being unearthed in our Members table round up.

Finally, we see who is going into Gameweek 9 on a high with a look at the latest leaders in our community leagues.

The Community Articles

Junior Stanislas’ strong recent form, of 36 Fantasy Premier League points over his last three games, has prompted Spreadsheet to delve deep into his statistics. His research offers an invaluable insight as to whether he will be a flash in the pan or the real deal.

Despite his strong recent form Bournemouth supporters are not optimistic their side will do well when Spurs visit this weekend, according to Bolivian Seaman‘s latest What the Fans Are Saying article.

For those looking for better Gameweek 9 prospects YMA has been down to the bookies for inspiration for where to place the armband. There was further analysis of captaincy options when Spreadsheet dropped by later in the week to check up on how the Magnificent Seven Theory is helping pick the best player for double points.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

This week’s most transferred in player, Theo Walcott, has already seen his price rise twice since a Gameweek 8 brace. Given his stellar form we asked for your thoughts on whether the winger offers enough Arsenal coverage on his own or should be paired up with team-mate, Alexis Sanchez.

Walcott’s exceptional form is tempting some to swerve Sanchez and instead consider Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne as their premium-priced midfielder. During the week ESpanYOLO weighed up the pros and cons of investing in either the Chilean or Belgian stars.

At the other end of the price spectrum sits Joe Allen, who has made a mockery of his 4.9 price tag with 35 FPL points in his last three league outings. Given this recent run, it is not surprising to see the Stoke City midfielder take his place behind Walcott as the week’s second most popular transfer.

But many in the community are urging caution.

Internal error pondered whether he’ll end up like Etienne Capoue, who is failing to sustain early-season goal scoring feats from a central midfield berth.

Those swapping out Capoue for the Stoke man who are expecting a far better Fantasy prospect will be mistaken, declared Gangdu Laowai earlier this week. Parm is another to pour scorn on the viability of Allen as a long term Fantasy asset, with this excellent analysis on his prospects.

Among those drafting in Allen are Fantasy managers opting for a 3-5-2 formation to accommodate the array of midfield talent on offer this season. Albrightondknight believes that, so far, this strategy is trumping the more popular 3-4-3 formation.

Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Southampton’s Charlie Austin are certainly putting forward a good counter argument to those opting for 3-5-2. The forward pair have four goals between them over the last two Gameweeks, making them ideal third striker options. Bob dropped by midweek to assess which of these cheap forwards we should be considering.

In Gameweek 8 both Austin and Wilson outscored popular captaincy pick Sergio Aguero by some distance. Given he has failed to score in three of his six and has been benched in both of Manchester City’s last matches, we asked whether it was time to cut back on the times we hand him the armband.

Ruth_NZ added further rain to the Aguero parade with his look back at Pep Guardiola’s rocky relationships with strikers over the years.

Could Aguero soon join the likes of Zlatan Ibrahomovic and head for the exit door as a Fantasy asset? We took a look at how your teams would line up if you decided to sever ties with the Manchester City forward.

Our Rough with the Smooth round up of your Gameweek 8 highs and lows showed just how many were let down by the Argentine, with his penalty miss costing those that captained him dearly.

For some, a rough Gameweek or season can end in even more humiliation, with Fantasy leagues starting to add tough penalties for those holding the wooden spoon. In our discussion on forfeits Krul Runnings revealed the extravagant lengths his league has gone to so that last place comes with a hefty price to pay.

The Members Tables

With £10 free credit with FanDuel to those entering our latest Cup competition, I’ve created this handy table looking at the players who excel in this daily and weekly Fantasy format.

Joe Allen’s recent goal scoring feats have led Baines on Toast to construct a table specifically looking for similar midfielders, who are able to combine defensive responsibilities with attacking threat.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Jarvish dropped by to bring us news of a tasty new competition for the community to take part in.

In Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league Sahil Sud retains the lead and sits 355th in the overall rankings.

Another to stay top is Facer, who has a 27-point lead over Applebonkers at the summit of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors League.

Finally, Jaffalicious posted this update on the current leaders in the FFS UEFA Champions League contest.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

so far it seems it will be a lot more important to have a high value compared to last season.
With Mahrez, Vardy, Alli, Antonio and other very cheap options last year, price wasn't really a big issue. This year though, with all (most) of the heavy hitters showing good form, it will be more important in my opinion.

It's not all that different this year. The real difference is that this year the best players are midfielder heavy. The 3rd highest scoring forward is behind 15 midfielders. Aguero is overpriced. When people realize they can go without him, there's going to be a lot of 3-5-2s with solid, mid-priced midfields

I am just not sold on this argument yet.

I think it is too early to write off Kun - even at his price. We have seen time and time again that he has shown himself to be absolute FPL gold.

And the whole 3-5-2 trend has of course been the better option the last few weeks. But what happens when Kane comes back? Or if Zlatan starts to get the goals his stats are suggesting. Lukaku and Costa seems to be consistent this year.

Even with a 3-5-2, you will probably have to have 2 10+ attackers and if you need the likes of Sanchez and or Ozil/Theo, KDB and Pool mids I can't see how team value isn't to become an issue.

Plus the lack of clean sheets so far has also made it easier to fund the heavy hitters. If Tot, Ars or even City, Everton, Pool and Man United starts collecting clean sheets, team value is becoming even more important...

All fair points. Perhaps I'm jaded by the Kun-love at 13. Just seems so liberating to not have Kun. He's no Suarez. But when Kane returns, if he's firing, with Kun and Zlatan, fair points.

Fuchs but you need to be prepared to rotate, he's only good at home but has a genuine 9-15 point chance every home game. If you've got Pieters already, I'd get Fuchs. Stoke rotate perfectly the next 6.

His streak has come to an end and people are now selling him. You are probably better of getting a cheaper 5th mid (who you will seldom play) like fletcher or hojberg for 4.4 and banking the money made on Capoue to use elsewhere.

Alternatively, if you want a slightly more expensive 5th mid then use to opportunity to get someone on form like Allen.

Unsure how Swansea will play under their new manager. Watford seem quite free-scoring, however they aren't as good on the road.
Amat has very little attacking influence whereas Valencia has it in abundance.

        Why are people selling Sterling????

Sterling to Theo seems ridiculous in the long run, even potentially short.

Did the move on Saturday so it made me 0.3. Walcott is just on one of his runs when he becomes essential.
Sterling the obvious person to drop for him as city have lost a bit of momentum and he isnt getting the points. I am sure sterling will do well over the season, but I have never really liked his as a fantasy option

          1) Walcotts rapidly spiralling price Vs Sterlings falling price
          2) Next Two fixtures. Walcott Boro and Sunderland Sterling Southampton and WBA Two of best defensive teams
3)Walcott genuine captain option this week
          4) Sterling blanked last Two, Walcott scoring for fun

And Sterling is hardly a world class player - he is young and has had several bad points in his career. Southampton and WB will both play deep, and I dont see City scoring lots of goals. I also think that Sterling will be rested in one of the next 2.

So many responses and valuable ones at that. Nice.

I have Sanchez and double Pool. No way I'm shifting Sterling. Reckon he does as well if not better than Theo.

          Granted. I want Theo!!

I'm telling you. It's not like he forgot how to soccer. Goal in CL midweek, weak opponent, LEI confidence high, no one talking about them, mark my words. This week he gets double-digits. Brace for Mahrez this week.

I am not saying that he should bench Austin over Snoddy. Just don't get why people have gotten Snoddy if you are not playing him in these games. Then he is too expensive for a 5th mid. Stoke certainly seems to be tightening up their game, but I still think there is a possibility Hull will score - and probably through Snoddy then.

I got him on a WC last week when there were many doubts and thus wanted a proper back up. Plan was to go for Austin and have Snoddy cover for this week, making Austin's fixtures more attractive if getting the city game covered elsewhere. However, last week's performances has made me doubt benching Austin. Long-term I will def not go for such an expensive 5th mid, but it was a 2 week plan mainly.

Thanks for all input guys, will probably bench snods

If you're expecting a 0 from a non-playing D,then a hit is ok. If it's a decent guy you're getting and expecting to keep for a while. If it's a stoke mediocre, probably not worth it

Just not convinced on Pool def for 0,5 more and I somehow don't Holebas to continue.

Stoke have very good fixtures, so it would be a long term investment. Currently trying to shave some value of the defence.

It sounds like you want to do it and stoke do have good fixtures. It's usually worse the morning after if you don't do a move you wanted to do than if you do take a hit you didn't want. I would suggest pulling the trigger. If your new guy concedes but your transferred guy didn't play, it's only 2 points.

          Current Team:

          Grant (Pickford)
          Walker Holebas Lovren (Stones, Amat)
          Firmino Sterling Walcott(c) Son Allen
          Aguero Lukaku (Costa)

Thinking that I should bench Costa because he's bound to get a YC for sure, plus Mou will probably park the bus so he doesn't lose to Chelsea. Most of FFS is starting Costa though. Do we think he'll get more than 5 pts? Because if not, a CS for Lovren/Holebas would be more profitable...

Or should I play AOA and bench Lovren/Holebas?

It's not like YOU get suspended for a yc. He's marked in almost every week. He costs 10. He's averaging more than pretty much of everyone else. So he gets a card. He probably will. Only 1 point. What if gets goal and assist. Gotta have faith Jin costa over Allen.

Maybe I am biased as a united fan, but I don't see Chelsea scoring loads. Think Mou will do everything in his power to get at least a point and will play similar disruptive tactics as against Liverpool.

I'd play Costa. AOA is an option, as is benching Allen/Son.

Would you consider benching Son? I was only considering AOA or Allen...

I would if he was a doubt to start, which I'm not sure whether he is or not.

You can probably get away with benching Allen. Or just play AOA if you can't decide.

Next gameweek looks nice for an AOA as well, probably even better. Might just bench Allen and save AOA for next week.

I think Mou will be highly motivated for not to lose and it could limit Costa's potential in this week too.

Keep AOA for better fixtures, imo.

Hmm. Haven't really considered benching Son with that fixture. Why all the doubts? He didn't play much against WBA so theoretically he hasn't been overworked too much...?

How short-term is Grant? On WC now and considering to go with him as 2nd GK instead of Pickford.

So, Heaton should take the 1st spot then. Thanks.

Still a bit hesitated between Pickford & Grant due to fixtures. But I agree that Pickford should give more stability until new year.

Grant fixtures way better. But I am blindly playing Heaton every week anyway. What I have found it that second keeper spot never gets transferred and sits to rot there is always a more pressing transfer.

Think some FPL players could miss a trick not putting Kun as (C) ok I see the reason why they have gone Sanchez but feel Pep's comments in the pressed about him will have reassured his future & fired him up for Sunday's game just my two pence of course.

Some nonsense about strategic reasons and "when Aguero decides to leave it'll be his choice" blah blah blah it's all just annoying media, though I will say I don't think Pep approved of Aguero playing for Argentina with an injury.

Really contemplating a Pool double up.
Trying to guess where the Pool points are going to come from though is painful.

          Couthino(8.3) 46pts. 3-Goals 3-Assist 6-BAPS
          Firmino(8.5) 41pts. 3-Goals 2-Assist 5-BAPS
          Lallana(7.1) 42pts. 3-Goals 3-Assist 5-BAPS
          Milner(6.7) 46pts. 4-Goals 1-Assist 9-BAPS
          Mane(9.0) 34pts. 3-Goals 1-Assist 2-BAPS

I've had Firmino all the way through, but an addition of Lallana or Milner to replace Antonio looks like a good move to me.
Anyone else got a pool dbl up or considering it?

I would discount Cout. His conversion stats from last year are too bad to be true. Mane explosive but cost excludes him value wise. Firmino a definite for me. Left with Lallana or Milner same conclusion you came to. Pot luck I'd go Lallana.

Antonio is gone anyway. Already have city and gunners double but yes was tempted to double up pool too. Actually going Antonio and Kun to KDB and Wilson next week. Sterling can go for pool mid in a two to three weeks if not performing or rotated.
