Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Tuesday night treats us to three more matches as the festive schedule finally starts to wind up.

Bournemouth and Arsenal go head-to-head at the Vitality Stadium in the 7.45pm kick-off, with Olivier Giroud looking to score for the third successive match – the Frenchman opened 2017 in style, thanks to his scorpion kick effort at home to Palace. He starts for the third successive outing this evening.

Second in our Gameweek 20 Captain Poll, Alexis Sanchez is looking for a fifth double-figure haul on his travels, yet faces a resilient Cherries rearguard that’s served up four clean sheets in front of their own supporters. Sanchez remains on the flank as a result of Giroud’s start but has fired in 17 attempts from that position in the last two Gameweeks – more than any other player.

Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha will look to take advantage of Swansea City’s dire defence in an 8pm kick-off at Selhurst Park.

The Belgian has the chance to play his way into consideration as the schedule turns in Palace’s favour, though Zaha owners will be searching for a way out after tonight’s fixture as he’s set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Finally, Stoke City entertain Watford in the other later match as Joe Allen and Etienne Capoue go head-to-head in the battle of the budget midfielders.

With the likes of Matt Phillips and Robert Snodgrass stepping up in form over Christmas, owners of both Allen (one goal since Gameweek 8) and Capoue (a single strike since Gameweek 5), will surely be considering their options over the FA Cup weekend break.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If Hazard, blanks, is Hazard + Origi to Pogba + Giroud/Defoe a good move for free?

Looking to ship Hazard regardless, not consistent away from home and Chelsea look content with 1-0 wins. I like Giroud as an option, though think Mhiki is better than Pogba, I'm guessing if you go Defoe then you can afford M?

I'm looking to bring in Pedro as an alternative to Hazard for the Hull game, 3m cheaper and matched his points

Think there's going to be heavy rotation in FA Cup as the teams they will be facing are mostly lower division clubs and the players are due of a rest after 3 matches in quick succession. But some of the matches might get cagey

        West Ham vs City
        Sunderland vs Burnley
        Hull City vs Swansea
        Everton vs Leicester

Apart from these 4, the other clubs has easier fixtures and don't think the crucial players will be involved in FA Cup games.

        Rest of the fixtures are:
        Man Utd vs Reading
        Stoke City vs Wolves
        Watford vs Burton
        West Brom vs Derby
        Southampton vs Norwich
        Arsenal vs Preston
        Crystal Palace vs Bolton
        Liverpool vs Plymouth
        Chelsea vs Peterborough
        Tottenham vs Villa
        Middlesbrough vs Sheff Wed
        Bournemouth vs Milwall

It depends how much they want to progress in the cup I guess. You will put a half decent side out if you want to qualify even against lower league opposition. Otherwise you get replays or go out fairly often.

Yes. Some of those fixtures are fairly easy, but for some reason the cups have lost their appeal. Probably the prize money has gone down. The team put by the big clubs in Capital One is like a rotation done on Fifa.

Last seson myteam (Oxford) put out Swanse in the 3rd round it was a good day. But they did have a second string squad out.

Of course there were cup upsets before any of this massive rotation was commonplace as well

Yes I remember Chelsea beating City where Faupala was their only goalscorer in a 5-1 thrashing. Fa Cup was the only thing Chelsea was in so they put their good side out. City Second string though.

        Morning! Needing some advice.

Currently considering Lovren, Brunt >Baines, McAuley.

I have the exact amount of cash to do it and I don't want to miss out on Baines good fixtures. Looks like he might rise this gw.

Other defenders are: Chambers, Holgate and Ake.

Still save unless there's something else pressing. Brunt to McAuley is a downgrade. Baines is good, but don't know if he is as essential as you're thinking. There's always Daniels you can get for Lovren. So wait.

I must be the only one looking at Everton's good fixtures and wondering who they are going to beat.

what would you do if you had this team. Any advice appreciated

        Heaton/jaku
        Alonso/holebas*/ake/evans*amat*
        Haz/sanchez/eriksen/philips/barry
        Ibra/costa/origi* (2FT 1.9 ITB)

        * eager to ditch but dont know where to start.
Should i go 3-5-2? Get defoe or just 2 defenders

I wouldn't go 3-5-2. Similar scenario to Me. I'm waiting for as long as possible before doing Lovren and Origi to Ake and Defoe. Also on 2 FT. Might take a hit to get Alli too. Depend son Hazard tonight.

Wait until after the FA cup games, but I'd say either Holebas to Rose or Origi to Defoe for this GW. Then Brunt in for Evans after the Spurs game.

Capoue out an option, but funds tight for a replacement.

Although i wouldn't want heaton long term after the southampton match. They have tough fixtures & he's not racking up saves in away matches

Andre Gray. Lots of hype at the start of the season but has tailed off.

Probably getting him in with my wildcard. See him to be better value than Lukaku by some margin.

Agree on Gray's potential too. I think he is best cheapie forward now (Rondon is interesting too but alr have Phillips).

          Baines Antonio Lukaku

          Vs

          Brunt Hazard Gray

My struggle is I rate Baines more highly than Brunt, Antonio could match Gray, but Hazard should outperform Lukaku

WC active - wish I didnt have to, but team's a mess. Can anyone help with these questions?

        1) Link for defensive rotations? Specifically looking for best GK combo till end of the season

        2) Will we get some insights into BGW/DGW after this week's FA cup round? Might help with selecting bench fodder accordingly.

        3) Already brought in Daniels, but not Alli. Can we expect any double risers?

        Thanks!

          1) Members area does the job once you have 1 GK
          2) no
          3) Daniels probably, most doublers you'll want to keep.
