Captain Sensible – Gameweek 34

Next up is our usual Friday evening members’ article as we take a closer look at the leading armband candidates for the upcoming round of fixtures.

To start off, we run the rule over the Captain Poll contenders, then examine the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before pinpointing a differential or two to help with your armband dilemma.

The Captain Poll

Prior to being forced off against Anderlecht last night, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the runaway leader in our previous Gameweek 34 Captain Poll for Manchester United’s upcoming pair of fixtures.

The veteran’s knee injury – with
reports suggesting he could be out for the season – forced us to reset the Poll earlier this morning, affording you another chance to assess the lay of the land.

This time around, United’s Marcus Rashford edges Middlesbrough frontman Alvaro Negredo into second spot.

Backed by 27%, Rashford’s goal and assist in the 2-1 win over the Belgians means he has now scored in three of his last four across all competitions. With the rest of United’s attackers misfiring, he’s been drafted in by over 144,00 FPL managers in the last 24 hours.

Yet his upcoming pair of hosts won’t make it easy – Burnley and Manchester City are amongst the top six sides in terms of resilient home defences, having conceded just 14 and 15 times in front of their own supporters.

United’s raiding right-back Antonio Valencia’s 3% of the votes cast. The Ecuadorian produced attacking or defensive points in eight of his last nine, though he’s started just one of the last three due to his manager’s late-season rotation.

Handed 21% of the votes, Negredo has netted twice in five fixtures under Steve Agnew and has the best pair of fixtures of any Double Gameweek frontman as the Teesside team travel to Bournemouth before hosting Sunderland in midweek.

The Cherries have conceded at least twice in seven of their last eight home matches, while David Moyes’ side have a single clean sheet on their travels all season.

By comparison, encounters with Liverpool and Spurs look tougher tasks for Christian Benteke (9%). A trip to his former employers at Anfield could still see the Belgian in profit – Jurgen Klopp’s side have injury worries at the back and have registered just one clean sheet in seven at Anfield.

At home to Spurs is far from straightforward, yet Benteke – with goals in three of the last four Gameweeks, including a ten-point tally at Stamford Bridge – has the form to prevail.

Only 3% are willing to gamble on Wilfried Zaha, while less than 1% are considering his team-mate Andros Townsend. The pair have both produced two goals and three assists in the previous six Gameweeks in a run that has seen the latter average seven points per appearance.

Golden Boot rivals Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are rated as the best single-Gameweek prospects, earning 9% and 7% of the votes respectively.

The Spurs man has delivered double-figure hauls (20, 13, 12) in each of his last three starts ahead of a trip to Palace, while Lukaku has scored in nine successive appearances for Everton against weekend hosts West Ham.

Guys, I have no clue what transfer to make. I have 1FT and 0.1ITB.

Problem is I'm now worried Barragan won't start, but with out a WC I'm not sure I want to waste a transfer on swapping him out?

    Current team:

    Hennessey
    Alonso Barragan Jagielka
    Sanchez Hazard Alli Zaha
    Kane Lukaku Benteke
    (Pickford Eriksen Holgate Yoshida)

Any suggestions on a transfer, or should I just save?

Im in a similar position with Fabio, think its a lottery who will start other than Gibson, if I were you id save, worst case scenario Holgate comes in and he has a decent fixture..

Yeah I was hoping he would start, but it seems sketchy now. I don't want to swap him out for another pleb. Especially no WC all transfers will be for DGW36/37 to maximise the BB chip in 37.

Save seems the most logical thing to do.

You need to eventually get Barragan. I would save and hope he plays both games this week and then get him out next week.

Yeah he is definitely first to go next week, might downgrade Zaha as well with 2FT.

I'm thinking of getting Gibson purely out of lack of rotation worries, I just know United defenders will find a way to disappoint

Seems sensible. He's the only defender from Boro or Utd that we're certain will start both games.

Played mine today - am pretty happy, though wish I could turn Gibson into Friend or Chambers if I knew which one would start so I could save some money...

      De Gea
Alonso - Blind - Gibson (Yoshida - Stephens)
Alli - Sanchez - Zaha - Hazard (Sane)
      Lukaku - Benteke - Negredo.

      Negredo to Gabbiadani next week.
Can take a -4 in 36 and 37 for the TC and BB weeks.

      Gibson, Yoshi, Bailly, Alonso, Holgate
      Coutinho, Alli, Son, Zaha, King

What is your wc team looking like?

    Predictions for:

I ask because I like to do one minor punty/unorthodox thing each week, and this week's vibe is Grosicki over King. Something tells me Hull could smash Watford.

Ignoring the double gameweeks as no one stand out imo

Rashford a single game week vs city
    Benteke vs very tough opposition
    Negredo just meh

It is now between kane or lukaku for me.
Kane's semifinal vs chelsea makes me leaning towards lukaku atm.
His lack of away form seems safer compared to the possible fatigue from spurs players.

    Any opinions guys?

Are we talking captain, or bringing someone in? Benteke could well score against liverpool, will get a minimum or 4 for just starting both. Rashford won't get 180 mins, but could easily get in the points too. However I'd captain Lukaku; just look at how many goals West Ham are conceding.

Mornign dzzz, planning to take a punt on Pogba 😀 by doing stones + eriksen >> gibson + pogba (-4).....confused as to take another hit for either kun/kaku >> rashford/negredo (-4)? worth it?

    Grant
Robertson Valencia Gibson -- Davies mcauly
Alli Sanchez Zaha Pogba -- Fletch
    Kaku Kun Teke

will captain either rashford/negredo if i bring them in. Yes eriksen>pogba (-4) may not seem worth it but as a united fan, def keen to bring in pogba

He's not a terrible FPL pick, I suppose. Just looked at their schedule for rest of season. Pretty nice. I don't love the idea of scooping him up this week, but yeah, after that might work out well.

Depends on whether you have a wc. If you do, go aggressive with Townsend or puncheon. If you've usd it, hold or think dgw37.

Yeah i have my WC, BB & TC.
Interesting i was sure people would say King, although I should really have him already.
Think Townsend over Puncheon, hes on set pieces right ?

There was some mild Puncheon hysteria on here earlier. Go with Townsend.

Lots on here seemingly not taking into account Spurs and Chelsea in the FA Cup. Will be an exhausting match and there may be some rest/injuries/different tactics in their prem matches as a result. Palace have shown some guts against the big boys lately and Townsend will want to perform against the club that let him go..

True. Palace have 2 days rest before they play Spurs. While Spurs have 3, might be a factor.

Yeah, but palace also have two games. Kinda a wash. Spurs have more to play for, too (the title).

Palace still need points to secure safety. With both squads tired the complexion of the game isn't straightforward. I wouldn't be surprised if a tired set piece decided that game
