The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 3 – Sunday

This was meant to be the day that would see talent from the north London clubs cause tremors in the Fantasy Premier League ranks and market place. Instead, both Spurs and Arsenal fell flat – to varying degrees of disaster.

Harry Kane had the opportunity to transform the Fantasy Football landscape. Not only could he have buried the August goal hoodoo, but he could also have delivered points for the 16.1% who captained him to capitalise on the failings of others – including Romelu Lukaku’s zero point score.

Once again he blanked. Once again the numbers he produced defied belief.

Kane had ten attempts on goal, seven from inside the box. For the second match running, he has surpassed his personal record for the number of shots in a single Premier League match without scoring.

This season Kane has fired just 25% of his efforts on target with a zero conversion rate. His rates for both in 2016/17 were 52% and 26% respectively.

According to certain statistical models, he should have 2.5 goals by now. But he hasn’t. He’s got nothing, and he’s being ushered out of FPL squads at a pace.

To compound matters, both Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Roberto Firmino of Liverpool provided goal and assist returns with maximum bonus to overtake Lukaku in the forward standings.

They provide an obvious exit route for those left feeling decidedly uneasy about Kane’s extraordinary three-match drought.

Dismissing talk of the August “curse”, there is perhaps another reason behind this sorry spell: maybe Spurs really are destined to struggle at Wembley.

We have just two “home” matches to go on – the first against the champions Chelsea, while it should also be noted that Spurs only edged out Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane last season.

However, there is building momentum behind the theory that Mauricio Pochettino’s men could lack intensity and that sides will raise their game on visiting Wembley.

With Swansea City and Bournemouth the next two opponents due to arrive, we will surely have more evidence soon. Falter against that pair, and our confidence in Kane and Spurs’ other key assets – Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli – will plummet.

While it’s a testing trip to Everton to come next, those forthcoming home fixtures, coupled with the unfeasible and record-breaking numbers – may convince many Kane owners to sit on their hands, even when faced with cheaper and more profitable temptations.

Spurs toiled, but their suffering pales in significance next to the cataclysmic display delivered by Arsenal at Anfield.

Like Kane, Alexis Sanchez had the opportunity to put Fantasy managers in a spin. Instead, he played a 60-minute role in a farcical Gunners performance which may actually transpire to be his last for the club.

It remains to be seen if Sanchez stays in the Premier League to be a factor in our season. For now, he played his part in making Liverpool’s attacking assets seem irresistible, as the aforementioned Firmino pulled the strings for both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to step up with further hauls.

It appears that there is still one thing we can all rely on as Fantasy managers: Liverpool will present us with the dilemma of putting many attacking eggs in a single basket.

With Kane – our most bankable scorer currently defying all odds to misfire – perhaps we should just embrace that “problem”.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Any of you Willian owners selling him.this GW?
He looked good today but Hazard is back soon and it will eat into his gametime.

I thought he looked very good, was the main creator along with Fabregas. Was much better than Pedro. Trouble is, he plays exactly the kind of game Hazard plays. I'd reluctantly give him one more week and reassess.

I hope so as a fan of Willian (though not an owner). However, with Hazard on the side Pedro offers something different, whereas Willian is similar to Hazard. Not sure how Conte will see it.

If no injury problems I might do Kompany&Willian to Naughton&Salah with 2ft. Willian looked good so I have doubts

Another disappointing week. Kane captain three weeks on the big CS for me. Mane/Micky/Foster/Bertie keeping my team above water.

I always remember this piece of advice when it comes to reacting: don't try to control the uncontrollable. Focus on what you can control, which in the case of fantasy is transfers.

Kane stays. Jesus stays for one more week. 2 FTs for KdB and perhaps Dann to Naughton. Hegazi boat missed!

    Current front 3: 1 FT

    Mounie-Lukaku-Kane

Plan to ship Kane out but how?

    A) Kane-->Morata (free)(save the money itb so if Kane hits form next GW, I can switch Morata for Kane)

    Or

B)Kane & Mounie --> Firmino & Morata (-4)(forget Kane for now and build a team without Kane in mind and catch the price rises)

        KDB Mane Ritchie Ince TC
        Kane Kaku Fabbiadini

Help would be great if there are any huge concerns? Mkhi in? Thinking of KDB to Eriksen and relying on Ritchie and Ince until next intl break.

Very similar team, don't know about starting mooy and carroll, so would go KDB to salah and then maybe rlc to richarlison and start him?

Any love for Chris Wood? I saw the highlights on MOTD and he was really impressive.. I know Burnley are not an attacking force but Gabbi is a lost cause..

              Yup.

Long term though I think it would be better to drop one of Lukaku or Kane

              No in a 3-4-3 (4.5m mid doesn't count), yes in a 4-3-3.

        A) Kane & Mounie--> Firmino & Morata (-4) (allows me to catch price rises)

        Or

        B) Kane--->Morata (free) (allows me to get Kane back in 1 transfer)

        My front 3: Kane-Lukaku-Mounie

I'm holding. I don't really care too much about value of my team and I still think he is the most threatening striker on offer. If you don't think that, then you can sell.

          Holding.

Sure if I lose 0.1 I regain it when he rises again.

Sell for Morata as he will rise atleast twice (0.1 profit) and Kane will drop atleast once (0.1 profit) I'll get Kane back after next week for Morata (FT) as I'll have money in the bank (reverse of what I just did)

The problem with this is if you have to make 2 transfers in order to cover his additional expense (i.e, most times you can't just transfer him back in unless you plan on sitting on the extra 2.5 price difference and not adding someone with that extra cash).

Yes just swap Kane out for Morata this week, keep the money itb and bring Kane back if he looks like he is back

I guess if you're okay just sitting on the cash, sure.

If Kane doesn't look like he is back in 1/2 weeks and Morata looks good I think then you can spread the cash around, maybe even replace Lukaku with Kane if Morata is doing that good

I remember when Firmino blanked for like 5 gameweeks last season but Kane is getting crap for blanking 3 just because of his price. He will find his form.

But if you look at it like a combo eg (Mounie & Kane) vs (Firmino & Morata) the latter will probably outscore the first based on current form. So instead of looking at just kane, you have to look at where he would free up funds and how that can help too.
