The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 5

This Sergio Aguero chap looks a good option.

Twenty goals in 25 starts last season; he’s scored 24 and 26 goals in his two previous campaigns.

Priced at 11.4, cheaper than he’s ever been – he looks useful.

Of course, we all know this, it’s just that today’s devastating hat-trick at Watford has provided us with an almighty jolt and left us questioning our logic.

Seven days ago I wondered whether we will ever need look beyond the Harry Kane/Romelu Lukaku combination up front.

In true “knee-jerk” fashion, a week later, I’m now left asking if we can afford to overlook Aguero.

We can’t beat ourselves up; our reservations to this point were understandable.

Pep Guardiola’s plans with the Argentine, working in tandem with his apparent darling Gabriel Jesus, were shrouded in uncertainty.

Aguero has started up with Jesus in four of five Premier League matches. However, he was dropped to the bench at Bournemouth – a decision that appeared to confirm our fears that we could not rely on Aguero and Pep.

But today’s treble took Aguero to four goals since the south coast “rest” and the impact has been instant.

Over 74,000 have already moved to acquire Aguero, with Lukaku the major fall guy. The Manchester United striker has lost over 16,000 owners to his City rival before he’s even kicked a ball in Gameweek 5.

Some are clearly convinced, and the rest of us are left wondering if we should follow suit. City’s fixtures are more than enticing, and the prospect of watching Aguero run riot clutching FPL armbands is a petrifying thought.

Indeed, the only consolation today was that Aguero’s ownership remains relatively modest. He was part of just 502,000 squads ahead of Gameweek 5, and captained by 39% of those managers.

His 20-points will still make waves across mini-leagues and ranks, but it’s surely the least impactful hat-trick of Aguero’s illustrious FPL career.

But the haul hit even harder as a result of Kane’s bitterly disappointing blank.

Almost a million (20.1%) of FPL managers trusted Kane with the armband and were left frustrated by Spurs’ inability to breakdown a stubborn Swansea at Wembley.

Everything – the form, fixture and the statistics – all pointed to Kane being the Gameweek’s must-own, high-scoring option.

But there’s that logic again.

The same thought patterns that can perhaps persuade us that David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne or Gabriel Silva can cover Aguero’s future tallies.

Maybe, like a good few struggling Premier League managers, we just need to go back to basics.

Selecting Aguero in your Fantasy Football team used to be our rule number one. It was our basic instinct.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would likely be for GW6-8 and Fernandez has (Watford, West Ham, Hud)

The fact that some people took off Kane gwk 3 and brought him back in for gwk 5 is laughable

Is it? He had 4 points in the opening 3 gameweeks, and it seemed like he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo. Between GW3 and GW5 he scored 3 braces. Plus the fixtures turning to the good for the Spurs.

Anything issues with this potential WC team? I went with Cedric and Naughton over Jones and Wimmer because they're more nailed on in the long term.

      Fabianski, Elliot

      Alonso, Kolasinac, Naughton, Mee, Cedric

      Ritchie, Mkhi, Salah, Silva, Carroll

      Aguero, Kane, Quaner

Very tempted to double up on City attack. Got Jesus but Silva for around 8M is a good price and Aguero could be a good alternative to Lukaku and Kane.

Maybe not in the same class as Aguero in his best, but Kane's scored 25 and 29 last 2 seasons and been the Golden Boot in the toughest league in the world. This is Morata's first season in his life as a first choice striker.

yes, lots of goals but a lot in clumps. Scoring 4 goals in a 7-0 win is great but you can score 3 in 6 and win your team more points. Kane scores in clumps

not the toughest league at all. English club has not got close to the Champions League in years. Kane is a bad pick this year, Alli and Eriksen much better value. Morata and Aguero will outscore their prospective midfield team mates by much more. Kane has way too many blanks to be a good choice

Romelu still has a dismal EVE. Could still acquire 2-3 goals in that no problem.

Then it's sou (dismal last home game) and CPA.

For Kun, yes CPA, but che the following week.

I'm keeping Lukaku unless I suddenly become awash with FTs and consider Lukaku to Aguero for next gameweek and then Lukaku to Aguero the week after for consecutive CPA captaincy.

Still have Lukaku, Jones, Mkhitaryan, Bellerin left to play and team looks fine for the next GW, but Stephens' drop is a problem.

              A) Save FT, play Löwe (bur)
              B) Stephens ➡ Monreal (WBA)
              C) ➡ Mawson/Naughton (whu)
              D) ➡ Williams/Jags (BOU)

I won't be able to afford Monreal or Williams after the drop.

I know it's early but what changes would you make to my team assuming no midweek injuries.

              Erikson Richarlison Gross Atsu

What do I do here? How do I start getting these players in?

I have my eye on Aguero, Kolasonic, Salah, Maguire, Silva

              Elliot, Fabianski
              Cedric, Alonso, TAA, Mee, Dunk
              Antonio, Miki, Ali, Brady, RLC
              Kane, Firmino, Morata

Kane for me is a good player BUT in FPL his price at 12.5M cannot be justified until he hits a bit of form.

This Wembley theory is gaining traction too

He scored a brace against a Dortmund side who hadn't conceded a goal before that game this season, at guess what, Wembley. It's just bad luck.

think more has to be read into that tbh mate. For Dortmund, playing at Wembley wouldn't be that special. But for PL clubs, it is. They are obviously upping their game when they come to Spurs

Be priced out of these moves if Aguero rises tonight.

              Alonso to Kolisinac

              Morata to Ageuro for a - 4.

              ???

All 4 are good players, you can't have everyone.

Maybe just run 20 or 30 teams?

                  Then we can have everyone.

If you were to WC now and had Kane and no Liverpool players, would you go with Eriksen or Salah? I feel that Eriksen will play more mins but Salah will score more goals.

Chicarito, Yoshida -> Welbeck, Fernandez for a hit?

Would likely be for next 3 game weeks and Fernandez has (Watford, West Ham, Hud), Arsenal 3 great fixtures as well.
