Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 7

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we take a look back at the weekend action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 7 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result:

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs SpursHarry Kane
Swansea vs WatfordKiko Femenia
Man City vs Crystal PalaceLeroy Sane
Stoke vs ChelseaAlvaro Morata
Burnley vs HuddersfieldChristopher Schindler
Everton vs BournemouthOumar Niasse
Southampton vs Man UnitedPhil Jones
Leicester vs LiverpoolPhilippe Coutinho
Brighton vs NewcastleTomer Hemed
Arsenal vs West BromNacho Monreal

Alvaro Morata’s 24-point haul made him the highest scoring player this week and adds yet another expensive forward option to a growing list.

Harry Kane’s impressive away form continued with a 17-point return to follow his 19 against Everton, while Philippe Coutinho flew the flag for pricey midfielders with 16 points, leaving managers pondering how to stretch their budget even further.

Luckily, Christopher Schindler and Kiko Femenia seem to be on hand to offer us great enablers. Both players have been in excellent form, with the former now the eighth highest-scoring player overall. He costs just 6.0.

Gameweek 7 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn eight points or more in bonus for the season.

Gabriel Jesus is the top target out after his benching at the weekend – but that was before the Sergio Aguero story broke earlier today.

The lack of points from Everton duo Wayne Rooney and Michael Keane seems to have counted against them (as has the latter’s injury doubt), while Christian Eriksen and Roberto Firmino make up the final two spots.

Sergio Aguero is again the most sought-after player and is now the highest scorer in the game. However, his injury following a car accident in Amsterdam is obviously going to have its effect this Gameweek and beyond.

Jamaal Lascelles is a somewhat surprising inclusion but has already netted twice in the league to add to his appeal. Mohammed Salah continues to feature week after week, while Alvaro Morata’s hat-trick and Alexandre Lacazette’s brace make them hot properties.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Notes

A jump in rank by nearly 3,000 places for me, so all in all a pretty good week.

Fraser Forster and Kyle Naughton claimed clean sheets in the previous round and they handed the torch to Mathias Jorgensen and Markus Suttner in Gameweek 6. If I can get two shutouts a week I’ll be more than happy.

My early move for Philippe Coutinho really paid off as he returned a 16-point haul.

He was Sky Sports gold last season thanks to his monopoly on the MoTM award and I expect the same again moving forward.

Mohamed Salah chipped in with his usual goal, but it’s the other two midfielders that are causing me most concern.

Nemanja Matic failed to provide bonus and has now earned it just three times – that’s a major worry for a player whose sole appeal is passing and tackles.

My other main issue is Anthony Knockaert. The reason for his inclusion was to cover Brighton’s many single match days and therefore offer a captain option.

But as it turns out, Markus Suttner appears to be the better captain option as clean sheets seem more obtainable than Knockaert points.

I’m not sure how I look to rectify those issues, but have a number of players on my personal watchlist.

Switching to a 4-3-3 formation with Phil Jones at 7.5 was an option I had considered but he now looks set to miss out against Palace tomorrow.

Another alternative is to switch to a premium midfielder and budget midfield gem such as Watford’s Andre Carrillo, who is just 5.8.

Obviously Carrillo’s main appeal is his enabling price, but he’s also looked threatening in the matches I’ve watched, so he could start to churn out the odd assist. He’s started the last four matches in a row, although Roberto Pereyra’s return may change that.

Thankfully, Watford’s fixtures are still pretty tough, so I’ll sit back and assess before jumping ship. Unfortunately, that means I’ll likely stick with Matic and Knockaert for now in an effort to conserve transfers.

Captaining Alexandre Lacazette on Monday was a great feeling as finally one of my armband “hokey-cokey” transfers paid off in style.

The fact he didn’t get MoTM was a blow, given that he earned it early in the season for essentially “making his debut”, but I guess I can’t argue with Nacho Monreal, who was sensational on the day.

Captain Plan

Sat 30th – Kane (hud)
Sun 1st – Lacazette (BHA)

Aguero > Kane, sick of hiding behind the sofa. Although all 4 times I've owned him this season, fudger has blanked on me. Funded by Alli > Sterling -4.

Maybe not the best match to get Sterling in, but for the next few obviously.

This, tough call but Kane > Alli, might be in the minority but I'd do it, take it you can't afford Silva, maybe Sane an option too?

Why wildcard? Seems a lot of people have it in the back of their minds that they have to wildcard next week, KDB to someone and Carroll to someone and you're set, in fact, could even wait for Hazard if you're prepared to keep rotating carroll and mee going forwards

Think Mkhi & Lukaku will be too much coverage for those United fixtures, Joselu needs to go as well and don't really want Kolasinac after this or next week.

Just seems to make sense tbh, would make quite a lot of changes to my team.

    A) Elliott
    B) Fabianski

    1) Gross
    2) Naughton

I'm thinking A2. Got a feeling Elliott could haul, Toon will defend deep and try to limit Pool to long range shots. Think Naughton has a better chance of scoring attacking points than Gross. Plus chance of cleanie

Arsenal are pants going forward, unless they have an easy game. United will shut up shop in easy fixtures, and Spurs have 2 home games, with an away trip to Real on the horizon. Cant see why those front 7 wont push me up the rankings

Liverpool are struggling. Man U will not go defensive. Pep and Klopp are rotation fiends, you could end up with 30m on the bench

This 4.4 price bracket for defenders sucks 🙁

Find 0.1 somewhere then 😉 Or just hold TAA until someone like Mee drops/Wimmer returns from injury

Fuchs is first choice over Chilwell. Martina?

Martina will start this weekend but after the IB there’s rotation if Keane and Jags are fit

True. Not much in the 4.4 range. Dunk? Take a chance on Wimmer?

Wimmer unlikely to start tomorrow or probably get a a Brighton defender and bite through this week if you can afford not to play him this weekend

BHA good fixtures in the long run after this weekend

    Assistance Required!

    Foster
    Kolasinac Naughton Cedric
    Miki Silva Eriksen Ritchie
    Lukaku Kane Abraham

    Elliot Stones Carroll Mee

    ITB: £0.4 2 FT

Was thinking of doing Ritchie to Choupo-Moting to free up some cash. Any Ideas.

As much as it pains, might have to go without Kaku this week. Would be a -4 to get him in or replace Jesus for him, both of which don't seem worth it. Right?

      - 4 is a small sacrifice if you think he will score well . But Jesus can also get on the board . Either or is up to you

-4 would feel ok if I was going to keep him. But that slot is Morata's after this week.

        If he hauls though...ugh...

Alli is dropping though... Last checked he's at -80ish. Aguero's rib is causing a meltdown.

    Which one for an FT:
    A). Firmino to Vardy
    B). Hegazi to Monreal

    Would you rather have :

    A) 2 4.4s, Salah/Cout, Silva and Alli
    B) Atsu/Ritchie, GroS, Alli, 4.4 and Silva

I messed up the question before, which one would you choose?

Would appreciate to get some views on my Jones dilemma. Watcha say?

    A) Keep Jones and save FT
    B) Jones to Monreal

    WC intact, 0,3 ITB.

    Foster / Elliot
    Bavies Jones* Bertrand Dunk Mason
    Eriksen Salah Mkhi Ritchie TC
    Kane Lukaku Tammy

with WC in tact, it would be easy to get him back. Id take him out, but for Maguire personally

need some help whether to WC or not. I took a hit to bring in Agu, and i feel like taking -8 hit is almost equal to a WC, and leaving agu on is not an option.

    Team BEFORE wildcard:
    De Gea - Elliot
    Davies - Bertrand - Mee - Mbemba - Rosenior
    Salah - Mkhytarian - Ritchie - GroS - Carroll
    Kane - Aguero - Morata

    Possible team AFTER wildcard:
    De Gea - Elliot
    Davies - Ward - Simpson - Mbemba - Rosenior
    Coutinho - Mkhytarian - Ramsey - ChoupoMoting - King
    Kane - Morata - Lukaku

Plan is to swap lukaku vs jesus next gw and then maybe up ramsey to citymidfielder.
Or should I just bite the bullet, take a -8 and bring on lukaku?!

Any commets advice would be greatly appretiated. Been pondering for hours!

So, with Lukaku potentially being rested this week by Jose against CP, who is the next best Captaincy option?

      • 9 Years

Unlikely to be rested because IB is coming

Probably gets subbed off early after 60’ after the horses have ran wild
