Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

how come 3 teams from North america go directly into world cup but only 4 from the south? the gap in the quality is ridiculous.

Chances are the 5th will too. The 4th will struggle to beat Australia from the North.

Look at Argentina's record without him vs with him. Even in the games that we did not get an ideal result, he carried us only to be let down by his teammates.

He's learning it now though. Been very selfish last couple of games. Good.

Yeah i agree he is amazing player that breaks records for fun and is mesmerising to watch every game. But the way you said it sounded like this hattrick against Ecuador is what took him over the line and became the best player of all time

Understand how you saw it that way. For me it's just mind-blowing that game after game he comes up with the goods and somehow we still can't acknowledge that he's the best there has ever been.

I've always been a huge Ronaldo fan over the years. But like many, I would love to see Messi deliver on the biggest stage and become a WC winner. Best player even then, without any doubt!

It's not so much the winning for me, its the performing against the big teams at a world cup. Cruyff never won one, but recognised as a great player. Messi no doubt a great player but not really been great at international level. For me, regardless of anything, I just don't think he has the ability Maradona had.

...but my point is, if he performs and helps win the WC this Summer he will surpass Maradona. He needs to do this in my opinion for there to be no doubt he's the greatest footballer in modern times.
