Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 10

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we cast an eye back at the previous weekend’s action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 11 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs BrightonGlenn Murray
Chelsea vs WatfordMichy Batshuayi
Newcastle vs Crystal PalaceDeAndre Yedlin
Man City vs BurnleyKevin De Bruyne
Huddersfield vs Man UnitedAaron Mooy
Swansea vs LeicesterRiyad Mahrez
Stoke vs BournemouthJunior Stanislas
Southampton vs West BromSofiane Boufal
Everton vs ArsenalMesut Ozil
Tottenham vs LiverpoolHarry Kane

Kevin De Bruyne was once again the headline act for Manchester City. Similar to Phillipe Coutinho last season, he seems to be able to pick up the award despite numerous team-mates also excelling.

With the Belgian also avoiding rotation in the Premier League so far, he offers a cheaper and more consistent captain pick than either of City’s frontmen.

De Bruyne and Harry Kane now lead the MoTM standings, with four apiece.

Aaron Mooy continues to stand out as a budget pick. His monopoly on the awards (three so far) was signposted pre-season, and he has not let us down, sitting ninth overall for midfielders.

Gameweek 11 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 11 points or more in bonus for the season.

members

Four of the top six spots are taken by Man City players as Pep Guardiola’s emphasis on passing continues to exploit the bonus system.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in the right direction.

Notes

A rather severe drop in rank this week – my third dip in a row – signals alarm bells for my side.

It’s easy to pinpoint the error of my ways. A lack of Man City players has been devastating, while faith in the likes of Eden Hazard and Jamie Vardy has been misplaced so far.

I’m considering a mini-overhaul, but will try to stagger it somewhat to take advantage of extra players by changing them mid-Gameweek, starting with Fraser Forster to Nick Pope (5.5) on Monday night.

Forster has been a very good source of points for me, in fairness. He’s the second highest scoring keeper in the game, but something has to give in order to raise some much-needed funds.

With Pope churning out saves in a decent defence and Southampton’s fixture swing on the horizon, the move makes sense.

I have also strongly considered Julian Speroni (4.9) and might still go in that direction, but the lack of a Monday night captain is edging me towards Pope at present.

Richarlison, Kevin De Bruyne, Nicolas Otamendi, and possibly even Wilfried Zaha, may enter my side in the coming weeks as I go on the attack.

It’s all about how long I can hold off.

The only reason I had Vardy was to cover captains, and it feels too early to bail on him when Leicester City have some preferable matchdays coming up.

Likewise, with Hazard, I only recently brought him in and believe he will start to rack up points. But how long can you wait while players like De Bruyne (for 0.3 less) are out-performing him with ease?

I could yet just throw caution to the wind and bring in all five players mentioned above, foregoing several captains along the way.

I need scented candles and a lie down.

Captain Plan

Sat 28th – Coutinho (HUD)
Sun 29th – Vardy (EVE)
Mon 30th – Pope (NEW)

Why do many people think free hit is best used in a DGW? You can't use bench boost or triple captain with the free hit so what's the point?

Because you don't have to sacrifice points in the run up to and after the DGW by bringing in players you don't want but who have 2 games in the DGW. Quite a neat option - I'll probably use it in the 'blank' game week myself, although there is no guarantee it will be as short of games as last season. Let's see.

I think the logic in playing the free hit chit in the BGW isn't as much the boost you'll get in points that week, but also not having your team full of junk players, especially coming up to DGWs where they won't have one.

Had Olsson, Siggy and Llorente after the BGW last year.. was awful

Depends on which teams have blanks due to the FA Cup. Last season was peculiar because all strong teams with premium players blanked, but that won't happen every year.

What are all the Kane owners doing, transferring out or benching?

I've got Choupo-Moting (wat) or Duffy (SOU) on the bench who I could field instead or is it worth taking a -4 to get in a striker, probably Aguero (I already have Jesus and Morata).

I'm leaning towards benching at the moment because I know I'll want Kane back as soon as he's fit. So it'll be the case of taking a hit this week and then using up my one free transfer to get him back in next week.

    Kane, Jesus, Abraham.

    A) Kane and Clark for Morata and Otamendi (-4) this week. Then if Kane is fit, Jesus and Kola for Kane and 5.0 next week (-4).
    B) Sterling and Clark for Otamendi and Richarlison (-4).

I'd just do Kane >Morata. No need to do a hit, you'd need to field Otamendi and for him to get a clean sheet at least for it just to be a break even move.

0.1 shouldn't be enough to put that trade off. It's just a wee price to pay. I like to go with the idea that someone that expensive should never be on the bench taking up precious budget.

    Lacazette or Morata?

Comparison tool has them very close. Lacazette on pens and arguably a better fixture this week, Morata playing for a better team and arguably has better fixtures over the next few games. It’s tough.

I would go Morata, personally. And just leave him in there when healthy. Laca gets subbed out too early too often.

That’s what my initial thoughts were but when you dig a little deeper, I’m starting to think Lacazette edges it. Morata got hauled off early in the last game, hasn’t looked great since his injury and hasn’t scored in a month. It’s tough.

I would wager he doesn't do much of anything against City and Spurs to follow, though. As tough as fixtures get for goalscorers. Morata should be back up to speed this GW. And while Man U to face the following week, that Chelsea schedule is juicy juicy for some while. And he is the undeniable man upfront for Chelsea with all them lads just living to get him the ball.

I'm going with Laca for a week and bring back Kane when he's fit. Morata is probably a better option long term.
I just want a quick fix for this week.

Leaning towards this myself. Might even go the whole hogg and stick the armband on Lacazette too.

That's my plan, can't see any other stand outs.

For a one week time frame, either is acceptable enough.

Do players ownership rising because of free hits count in the algorithm for price changes?

So this is the team I am going to go with this week.
gonna keep Kane in bench since I do not want to take another hit since I am already on a -4. (yes early transfers ruined me)

    Forster
    Ward Kolasinac Davies Maguire
    Salah Sterling Richarlison RLC
    Aguero Vardy

    Elliot- Carroll- Kane - 3.9

Do you guys think I can get away this week with this team? or do i have to do the Free Hit?? please suggest.

obvious concerns are Aguero, Sterling, Davies and RLC apart from Kane plus -4
