The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 10

And now it seems that Leroy Sane is Pep’s new favourite. Surely we can’t go on like this, bending to Guardiola’s whims and moving from player to player as he switches his affections?

And yet, as this is typed, Fantasy managers are doing just that, making way for Leroy Sane’s arrival in their squad by selling David Silva and even Raheem Sterling. Just as last week we saw thousands eject Gabriel Jesus to welcome back Sergio Aguero.

As it turned out, that move went unpunished. The Brazilian could not deliver at The Hawthorns on starting ahead of Aguero, failing to even record a single shot on goal in a match that City dominated and registered 15 attempts.

That’s an alarming statistic and one that hardly offers encouragement for his security of start. Jesus’ owners will already be concerned that today’s decision to rest Aguero is further indication that Guardiola’s two main strikers are job sharing.

The midweek teamsheet in Napoli will provide new clues as to the intention for Gameweek 11, when Arsenal visit the Etihad Stadium. Depending on the teamsheet in Italy, Aguero could get the start against the Gunners, as he bids to finally break the club goal scoring record on home turf. That could see Jesus back on the bench. Maybe.

Pep’s rotation across his “five forwards” is clearly in full swing. There’s almost a system; almost a tantalising pattern forming.

Today Bernardo Silva started, while Raheem Sterling was omitted for a second successive Gameweek. However, this time it was Sterling who was the one of the five chosen for the now standard 30-minute cameo. He capitalised on that opportunity. Sterling’s goal – a seventh of the season – issued a reminder that he can work for us, even when handed limited pitch time.

But just three weeks ago, the idea of back-to-back bench roles for Sterling seemed improbable. He had started five successive league matches when available, with Pep smiling on the winger as his favoured “support striker” option.

Now Guardiola’s gaze appears to have shifted to Sane. The German has now started five successive league matches and seven of last eight in all competitions. In those five Gameweeks, he has supplied four goals and five assists and now sits on top of the overall FPL standings.

The case for Sane is strong, but is he really immune to his manager’s selection policy?

These continued attempts to break the code and work out Pep’s next shuffle is tiresome, but perhaps not as futile as the current market trend of moving from one City asset to the next.

Surely we have to commit, accept some frustration and hope we get value from our weapon of choice.

It’s highly debatable if that can be either Aguero or Jesus at this present time. However, one of Sterling or Sane, with Silva the less explosive but more dependable choice, looks the way to go.

Playing for higher stakes could pay off, but Guardiola’s game of roulette appears to be a major distraction for our transfer policy at a time when options like Eden Hazard are edging back into contention.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Which of these is best for a -4 (when Kane is fit)?

    Option 1:
    Out: Kolasinac, Otamendi & Jesus
    In: Daniels, Ake & Kane

    or

    Option 2:
    Out: Kolasinac, Fabregas & Jesus
In: B. Davies, Fernandino & Kane

Why not Fabregas & Jesus -> Kane & Fernandinho or if you can't afford even cheaper like Atsu/RLC.

GW9: On WC, took out Kane for Agüero on the last day.
GW10: Got Kane back for Lukaku for a hit before the price changes. And got totally 1 point from my three expensive forwards.

Fell roughly 500.000 these two gameweeks.

    Current team:

    Elliot / Speroni
    Cresswell / Maguire / Daniels / Ward / Yedlin
    Salah / Sterling / Richarlison / Loftus-Cheek / Carroll
    Kane / Agüero / Jesus
£1.0 in the bank, 1 free transfer.

Is there any hope for me? Previous seasons I’ve at least had ideas on what would be good strategies and transfers, but now I‘ve no clue.

I kindly ask you, what would you do, short-term and long-term, with this team? Should I just give up, find some new interests and try to create a meaningful life by other means?

    Many thanks,

Don't know tbh. Just a bit of everything going wrong - gw1, captains, wildcard, injuries, Kane ownership timings, poor defence picks... Not sure on 10k tbh but will try.

The good thing if you have Kun and Kane is that you can throw the armband on Kane most weeks, so no worries there. The hope would be that Jesus Kun Sane becomes Pep's go to front 3, allowing you to have more confidence in the captaincy soon enough. Interesting that B.Silva has been playing the D.Silva role in the cup, perhaps that gives us a picture of Pep's thinking going forward.

I captained Sane today. Felt confident that he was my best option for scoring the most points this weekend. So far proven right.

I captained Lacashit against my better judgement, wish I'd gone for Sane but had a nagging worry he could be benched but seemingly he's nailed atm.

I was confident that he'd start due to his lack of minutes in the cup. Not guaranteed granted but thankfully got it right this week. Would have captained Kane otherwisr if he was fit.

I've got him and Sterling for Man City attack. Imo provide value for money. Despite not playing every week, they tend to score well when they play so a zero one week doesn't really matter.

Good point, will have a midfield of Salah Alli Sane Richarlison from next week onwards. I think the other options available from other teams in midfield makes both of them a bit much but certainly a viable strategy and value for money

I don't think, I hope so, but it seems he prefers Kun central striker (seems that way when fit) and Sane left wing. Jesus is better than Sterling so it seems logical that he'll move to that soon enough with Sterling coming of the bench and rotating with Jesus at times.

What would people do with Kane if he is ruled out of Palace?
With the lack of alternatives with good fixtures, would it be crazy to consider benching him again?

Not if you have a viable option to play, as you said there is a lack of options so would make it very plausible to bench him again. Hopefully he won't be ruled out for Palace though, saves us all a captaincy headache

        Cedric, Alonso, Monreal (BSmith, Rangel)
        Eriksen, Silva, Richarlison, Atsu (RLC)

        Considering this WC squad:
Cedric, Alonso, Monreal, BSmith; Atsu, RLC; Vardy, Laca >
Ward, Azpi or Ota, Daniels, Jones; Fernandinho, Zaha; Kane, Abraham

Thought I would until after the break, but I'm falling behind a little, have some underperformers or poor form, need Kane back in after this week.

Not going to do it all at once but how does this look?

        DDG
        Kola* Azpu Otta
        Hazard Eriksen Richarlison Bakyoko
        Jesus* Kane Diouf

        Subs: Elliot Simpson* Romeu* Mbemba*

        To:

        Azpu Otta Jones*
        Hazard Eriksen Richarlison Sane*
        Abraham* Kane Diouf

        Subs: Elliot Bakyoko Ward* Daniels*

        So it would be

        Jesus - Abraham
        Romeu - Sane
        Simpson - Ward

        Kola - Jones

Sane isn't a must but him and sterling are the best options imo they aren't nailed but are good value compared to aguero or jesus and I don't rate kdb and silva as fantasy players. If aguero does become nailed than that changes things but I don't see that happening any time soon

True. Sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don’t. Hits weren’t people’s friends this week.

And he has RLC and Luiz on the bench, really unlucky. Sanchez was a strange one though especially with City and Spurs after. He'll still finish in the top 5-10k.

Done it 2 weeks ago - one of the best transfers I've made. Do it.

Had a choice between downgrading him or Choupo to get Alli, choupo's gone he stays. Abraham looks great value

Has Poch said anything that suggests Kane will be back for Palace?

All he's said is that he's still a doubt for Real Madrid midweek.

Loses his appeal greatly if no Kane

Yeah, afraid so. But there are more pressing issues right now. He's still a class act.

Yeah definitely. But like Royal Robin said, he's a class act and if Dele Alli makes more contact and that ball, he walks away with an assist and maximum bonus from that game (9 points). Fine margins.

Is it eash to get rid off Auero now ? Thinkng of the following transfers over the next 2 GW's

        GW10: Aguero to Abrahams

        GW11: Atsu to Hazard

They're huge transfers, I wouldn't downgrade Aguero that intensely!

Aguero probably starts against Arsenal and looks a decent (C) option. Atsu at home to Bournemouth may be worth keeping too?

Well, need Sane in. To achieve this. I need a 4.4 mid. It's down to King, Lewis Cook or Romeu. They all have their merits and I need the dude who plays th most as he will be sub 1.

        Best one to go for?

        Pick 3:
        Sane, coutinho, sterling, eriksen

And tell me why if you have the time :). Note: got aguero and kane.

        Thank you.

Sane, Coutinho, Eriksen. Sane seems more likely to start than Sterling at present, the other two are nailed set piece takers for their teams that are or will soon be heading into great fixtures

I wouldn't go using 2 transfers to get Sané in until it you know he's available for the weekend
