Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Bournemouth vs Arsenal

The first of two Sunday fixtures gets underway at 1.30pm as Bournemouth welcome Arsenal to the Vitality Stadium.

Both sides have failed to pick up a clean sheet over the previous four Gameweeks, with the Cherries ranked bottom for both big chances conceded (12) and goals against (10).

That could be good news for the Gunners’ Alexandre Lacazette, who has failed to score in each of his last seven league outings.

Despite that recent drought, the Frenchman is the top captaincy pick for this match among Fantasy Premier League managers and ninth overall, claiming 2.2% of armbands.

However, there’s no spot in the squad for Alexis Sanchez as speculation over his future gathers pace in the January transfer window.

Elsewhere for the Gunners, Aaron Ramsey returns to the bench after recovering from a hamstring problem – he averaged 5.4 points per match (ppm) prior to injury.

Arsenal recent lack of resilience also looks promising for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Cherries were ranked first for shots inside the box (50) over the previous four, with Callum Wilson in fine form – only Harry Kane managed more shots on target (10 to seven).

And Jordon Ibe also boasts some eye-catching underlying stats – he ranked second for both shots (17) and key passes (13) over Gameweek 19-22.

Based on highlights, he looked very comfortable and confident. Amazing skill to score himself, then set up chances for Lanzini on a silver plate.

Absolutely untrue. I'm watching every game they play and he gets things going for Arsenal, best player for transitioning the ball into the final third. The team around him is underwhelmyng though. Creativity needs to come from both attacking midfielders/wingers and it doesn't with these 2. That's why they're unwatchable.

Haven’t watched a lot of Arsenal games this season to be honest. But watching this game now without Sanchez and Ozil, it really cements the era at Arsenal. I know they have been deteriorating in recent years, but this doesn’t look like a side that even close to being a top 4 side compared with the rest of the “top 6”.
I’m not a big fan of Arsenal nor a hater, but it’s almost kind of sad. I have nothing but respect for Wenger as a manager, but he really should have left a year or two ago. It really isn’t worthy of his time at Arsenal to leave behind a team in this state.
It will be interesting to know see how they handle it and how far the club will slide - and for how long a period it will be.

Would love to see them get relegated in 5 or so years. I know it won't happen but it would be fantastic. Their fans are some of the most clueless idiotic morons I have ever seen

I don’t think they will be relegated at all. Simply too much money going through the club.
But we could be watching the beginning of a long period of years, where Arsenal simply won’t be relevant in the PL top at all.

Actually the things aren’t bad as everyone talking right now.
Yes, Sanchez and Ozil situations are destructive. But we still have a good players, such as Chech, Koscielny, Xhaka, Ramsey, Bellerin. Recently Mustafi prooved he is good, Wilshere is back and very good looking. Lacazette is a world class.
Sead Kolasinac is bargain and will improve.
But we need great replacement for Sanchez and possibly Ozil, which is hard to find and sign

Just the fact that you guys let the Ozil and Sanchez situations get to a point like this if beyond me to be frank.
That being said, if course you still have some good players, but none - or very few at least - are top tier footballers.
Cech is 35 by now. Xhaka, Wiltshire, Ramsey and the likes are of course quality players, but none of them would be categorized as top tier imo.
And Lacazette isn’t world class at all!
The important thing for you is how the club deals with this. They need to plug the holes in the ship, buy smart and try to stay at the heels of the top of the league and avoid slipping further down in the coming years.
Luckily the financial state is excellent and hopefully the club will realize that you’ll have to spend money.

Leicester's fixtures are amazing until the end of the season really, only three times against the top-6 anymore, Man City away at GW27, Arsenal home at GW31, and Spurs away in the final fixture... So one of Vardy or Mahrez (or perhaps even both) are very good options from now on in my opinion... I'm thinking Vardy because he's a cheapish striker, whereas there are other great midfielders to get before Mahrez (although Mahrez is a great shout too of course)... But there are so few striker options, Vardy surely is a great one? What are your thoughts? For those you can't afford Firmino? Ha!

Agreed. Mahrez seems the better option imo.

Who are your 3 strikers that's the problem?

Was thinking of switching from Fir or even Luk to Vardy, but not sure if that's a wise move or just a waste? Vardy has a bit of an injury risk on his label or is that just me?
