The ScoutCast – Episode 247 – Frankenstein

Granville created the monster that is the template squad – only for it to turn on him.

That delicious analogy sums up the latest Gameweek for the ScoutCast team, as our mediocre scores were left dwarfed by those who dared to break from the norm to turn to the unlikely differential that was Sergio Aguero.

This latest episode conducts a full post-mortem, as the aforementioned Granville is joined by Jonty, Andy, and Az to contemplate another #Kanexit scenario with the clamour for Man City “nostalgia pick” intensifying.

I miss out with flu. The kind that creates bleary-eyed selfies in Swansea City centre Marriot hotels. But unlike Kane’s notorious Gameweek 22, I fail to make a 17-minute appearance, and instead listen in while the quartet tackle more community questions, creating their own motley crew of characters along the way.

In the midfield chat, Az spits bile in the direction of “JLings”, while Jonty fancies Shaqiri “Ironside” as a poor man’s Hazard. Lukasz “Lidl” Fabianksi turns up in the debate on goalkeepers, while the team are unanimous on the fate of Andreas “The Curse” Christensen.

NB: this ScoutCast was recorded prior to confirmation that Manchester City’s fixture with Arsenal is likely to remain in Gameweek 28. Oh, and Az was off the mark when he said that City play Basel after West Brom, that first leg tie follows the Gameweek 27. Don’t panic Aguero owners. Leave that to the rest of us.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Andy's advice is great. I've used it in my own team this season and gotten green arrows as a result. But that line will end up being as iconic as Jonty's lines about "magic beans" and outrunning a loftus cheek.

What's the point of this post other than to have another poke at someone who gives up their time for this site and the podcast and puts their opinions out there in doing so?

I agreed with Andy. I did and still do think that Aguero is not the player we all backed in seasons past.

Maybe I'm wrong and Andy is wrong. Disagree and challenge us by all means, but don't go too far and poke fun.

I've learned the hard way that that tends to bite you on the arse.

I'm not having a pop at all. It's simply a funny line that will be remembered. Like when Jonty talks about magic beans. Nothing more than that. It's just a bit of banter, which the guys laughed about on the Scoutcast.

Like I said above, Andy's great. His streams are very enjoyable. He's superhumanly fast on Twitter with the goal/assist alerts. Listening to him has helped my team. And his moderation in the scoutcast chat has been rightly praised.

For what it's worth, Mark is completely right about Aguero. He wasn't worth ripping up your teams for when players like Kane and Firmino had a great fixture. It makes sense when you stop and think about it. But it's still a funny line that's worthy of a bit of ribbing and bantz.

Of course, but even Jonty and I know where to draw the line with the "bantz". At least I hope we do.

      Quick question.

Am I right that if I bought DCL at 5.0 and his sale value is 5.2 that I won't see a sale value drop when his current price goes from 5.4 to 5.3 tonight?

you bought him for 5.0 and as his current price is 5.4 your sale value is 5.2
if he goes down to 5.3 your sale value goes down to 5.1 as they round it to the digit below i think.

Could do Pope, Sane, Firmino > Hennessey, Sanchez, Wilson. But timing does not seem right with Firmino playing Hudd v. Wilson playing Chelsea, Sane playing West Brom v. Sanchez playing Spurs

I wouldn't get Hennessey - not sure if he's nailed. Consider Foster to rotate with Adrian or get Pickford

Instead of losing Firmino (other than HUD/fixture, I also don't think there are many good forward alternatives at the moment), I would just downgrade Sane and Niasse (play 352 with Albrighton) and keep enough cash to move Hazard to Sanchez (c) next week if you feel strongly about having Hazard this week.

Pay as little tax as possible.

It's good enough for all the multinationals yet when the individual gets creative within the rules it's a big issue and they get called out.

              Are you Jimmy Carr incognito?

Multinationals should pay the proper rate of corporation tax by law. No if, no buts. The real problem is the tax code which is as complex and big as War and Peace.

They don't pay it though because they create schemes that are lawful to get around paying tax.

If the individual does it they get hammered and revenue tried to get all high and mighty about the importance of paying ones tax.

Why's it so important anyway? So the government can efficiently use the taxpayers money to run the NHS into the ground and bail out banks and bail out Carillion?

The whole thing is a charade.

Of course he pays the tax, the PL brings so so much to the UK economy yet people don't want it. It's like Australians not liking tax receipts from mining or Americans not wanting tax receipts from tech companies.

Try looking at economies that don't have huge and highly profitable enterprises and see if their citizens all buy iPhones, cars and steaks once a week.

Given the extent of overseas players and club ownership, I'd bet their relative net contribution is lower in money terms (contributes to current account/investment income deficit).

Overseas ownership has nothing to do with it. Man City and Chelsea are UK entities, when they pay their players, they have to pay UK tax. When they transact players, they pay UK tax. When they upgrade their stadiums and training facilities, they pay UK tax and create jobs. The league attracts tourism, I've met plenty of people who's dreams are to watch a PL game in the stadium, this is clearly a boon for the UK as well.
Think of all the jobs that get created, all the businesses that make a killing on a match day, the people employed as camera-people, the journalism and countless other jobs. Even this website will pay taxes that contribute as part of the PL phenomenon.

Would people rather all this money went to the Spanish or French or Italian tax authorities? Just madness.

I disagree with most sentences there on different terms (tax structuring, domestic vs overseas trade/services accounting, economic rationale) but will agree to disagree as this forum's not really the place for that debate & because I like watching good football.

You've obviously done at least some economics and I'm a big fan of it myself, but fair enough. Would be interesting to study the PL's economic impact in more detail.

Change of position had a lot to do with Arnie''s upsurge in FPL pts. Shaq is still playing wide in a front three.

Since that’s a 50/50, I’d base it on how many in the mini league you want to win have Aguero. The more that have him, the more you need to guard against

                Don't like it

Shaqiri is never getting in my team unless he suddenly get able to score

Chupo Moting would be nice if he was nailed
