Dugout Discussion – Stoke vs Man City

Gameweek 30 concludes at the bet365 Stadium tonight as Stoke City entertain champions-elect Manchester City.

The third most-captained player in Fantasy Premier League, Sergio Aguero, misses out due to a knee injury, with Pep Guardiola affording the fit-again Gabriel Jesus a first start since Gameweek 21.

Handed the armband by 1.16% of FPL managers, the Brazilian returned to the teamsheet with a goal against FC Basel in midweek.

Jesus is one of three players in the visitors’ starting line-up – along with Kevin De Bruyne (3.34%) and Leroy Sane (0.88%) – ranked in the top 20 captain picks for Gameweek 30 as they look for a repeat of the 7-2 win over the Potters back in Gameweek 8.

Sane heads into tonight’s match as the most bought player for this round of fixtures, acquired by 192,000+ new owners.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling – sold by a massive 339,000+ ahead of Saturday’s deadline – is fit to return and is named in the starting XI, as Bernardo Silva drops to the bench despite back-to-back strikes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Guardiola’s side arrive on the back of successive clean sheets and boast the league’s tightest away record, conceding just ten goals in 14 road trips.

After scoring in three of his previous four league appearances, Xherdan Shaqiri is the man most likely to breach that resilience for Paul Lambert’s side, with tonight’s match affording us the chance to scout the Potters’ potential ahead of Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why so many using FH35? Potentially only Spurs, MUN and CHE to blank. I for one have chosen to play FH31, as I only had 5 starters with my current team, and whilst there are mostly lower teams for this GW, more highly owned players blank in it too. Also, given how unpredictable this season has been, it could pay off, and should at least outscore my regular team, which would be useful coming off a relatively crap week so far (Kane (c))...

      1. Top Lad Dakes.
        • 7 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

Definitely get the arguement for FH35 having more teams available, but I and probably others have just thought "Why not just go for it in 31"? Especially coming off a bad week. After all, a healthy proportion of FPL is luck based anyway. And I reckon with good planning I'll be able to get by just fine in 35 using my WC32 and FTs wisely.

I have briefly looked at how my team might transition between 34 and 35 purely on FTs and hits and I agree it may be doable.

Using FH as a faux WC isn't a bad idea. But as I have TC (and BB which I don't rate) means TC will be locked into the other DGW. I don't like being inflexible.

Decided a few weeks ago I was not going to FH31 and stock up on players using free-transfers to field 8 or 9. However the right strategy as this week has proved would have been to get players like Mahrez, Son, Aubameyang etc and FH this week. Instead i was stuck with Wilson, Doucoure etc... Now I will have to wildcard GW32 anyways to get those form players above in.

      1. Swinner
        • 10 Years

Don’t be too hasty. I did the same for 10 to play without hits but we’ll only see the net gain/loss after GW31. WC GW 32 was semi inevitable but better to play it to set a foundation to end of season than play it to have players for GW31. Free hit chip/bench boost will be great for DGW. Problem now could be TC with Kane potentially out n Aguero/out n City roatation!

With Kane and Aguero both predicted to drop in price, i will lose sell value on both.

I want to bring in Firmino so should i remove

    a.) Kane
    b.) Aguero
c.) Wait and take the price drop

I've got 0.4 tied up in Kane and 0.2 in Aguero. I feel like I should keep Kane, but i guess we could get news he is out for a while any time soon. Advice?

Aguero is a bad pick with Jesus back. I'd sell him in a heartbeat. Kane, it depends on whether you want to wait for the scans. 0,1 ain't the end of the world.

Got rid of Aguero for Tozun (have Bobby F) to retain £0.1. Hoping Kane retains value until tomorrow’s news but with 5 mods n 2 Fwds I need a def txfr for a hit n 11 for GW31 not another fwd! So may hold Kane if not season ending inj.
