Monitor – Romelu Lukaku

After starting our series of members’ articles on Wildcard targets with a look at Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, our sights turn to another in-demand frontman.

With Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero currently nursing injuries, Romelu Lukaku’s recent resurgence has not gone unnoticed by Fantasy Premier League managers.

Three goals and a pair of assists in the last five Gameweeks, allied with a trio of strikes over four cup outings in the same timeframe, means that the Man United striker is the second most bought player in FPL ahead of Gameweek 32.

Following a barren autumn period, Lukaku seems to have stepped up his output following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

With two double Gameweeks anticipated for the Red Devils, can the Belgian claim a place in our frontlines for the run-in?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Would make it interesting (difficult) 😆 Crellin reckons bur will be 37 anyway so I've written that off as very bad. If swa is too then to bb 34 it's Saints & Seagulls to enable, not going hud again after 31 😆

Sorry had to get some skateboarding practice in with my 7 year old (who shreds) and missed the comments on this. Thanks for both of you that did. Anyone else give me some advice on this please..?

Thoughts on this first WC draft?
    Barnes over Murray..?

    De Gea / Fabianski
Mustafi / Christensen / Morgan / Van Der Hoorn / Lowton
    Salah / Mahrez / Son / Willian / Miki
    Auba / Firmino / Murray

    1. Holmes
      • 10 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

Yep, Barnes over Murray since he is rarely going to be part of your starting XI other than BB week, save cash.

Go for Fernandez/Naughton over Van Der, some thinks he isnt a sure starter

    2. Netley Lucas
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

Mkhi maybe a transfer in waiting if ars dgw is 37 but he's a good enabler for Kane anyway so you can give him 32 & 33. Barnes is great if bur dgw is 34, sadly it maybe 37 so Murray's yer man.

With something similar I am thinking Son to Mkhi.
If the double is 34 too good to pass up the fixtures between now and then. Son is in great form and with Kane out he seems to perform but those fixtures - really bad.

For the Son and Murray spots
I am going Ki and Vardy.
Ki only works if Swans have the dgw in 34.
If you can't afford that maybe A. King and Vardy. Not as appealing as Ki but might work.

Say bur, swa, new, whm, mac, ars all get dgw 37 and you want to tc Kane 37. Who would be your 8th 'cheapo' attacker for bb34? Let's say from bri, sot, hud or bou?

Not sure about their nailedonness, but I really don't recommend any Leicester defender.
I say it every time I see interest in them, look at their results.
They score few goals, while usually conceding.
I've been owning Chilwell and the only thing he gave was an assist, conceding in every match.

I know this is a bad idea but to get the other 13 I want it is going have to be 2 * 4.3
VDH Simpson and Chilwell or maybe cheap Newcastle. All come with a lot of risk but kinda set on the other 13.

Agree but it's thin gruel for double doubles once you get past the obvious. I don't like Morgan as a player but he could just get a goal in one of these games and if they scrape the odd cleanie he could be great value.

Issue with no Spurs till GW36 is that after FH35, we will have only 1FT, so getting Kane plus any other Spurs players will be tricky without hits.

26.4m, will be 26.5 if Milivojevic rises

Very true. Might just take that hit. At least with Firminio and Aubameyang and Mkhi I have non double options to remove that's assuming Ars dgw is 34.

5.3 per player will be tight especially when you need another mid and forward. GL

The problem is that while you have a strong attacking line with those 7, other teams with Alonso, Monreal or MCI/TOT defs will be getting clean sheet (or even attacking) points, which you can't hope for with those cheap defs.
I'd downgrade Lukaku to upgrade the defs.

Disagree that you can’t get clean sheets with cheap defenders.Infact now is the time to downgrade and play the fixtures with just 7 or 8 games left.BOU CPL and BUR have great run in for instance.

Clean sheets might come anywhere and anytime, but from the 3 teams you mentioned I don't think CPL and BOU can be trusted for clean sheet at any match. BUR were good at it earlier in the season but seem to have lost their tightness at the back.

    DDG, Pope

    Smalling, Bailly, Alonso, Robertson, Davies

          DDG, Pope

          Smalling, Robertson, Davies, **Monreal**, **Christensen**

          Son, Mkhitaryan, Sterling, Salah, Willian

              Son, Mkhitaryan, Sterling, Salah, Ki

              Auba, Vardy, Barnes

              Option 2:

              Smalling, Robertson, Davies, Monreal, Christensen

              Son, Mkhitaryan, Sterling, Salah, Willian

Either way, it looks like I’ll have about 7/8 guys with DGW one week and 11/12 the other. Makes sense to use BB when I can get more out and TC in the other. Not bringing in bad players from poor sides just because they play twice

The fact that gw37 is one week before the end of the season has to be kept in mind when thinking about bench boosting.
Most teams won't have much to play for that late, which will let them rotate more, messing with your plans.
Even if gw34 is just 3 weeks before that, there will be a lot more motivation in more teams and they'll care more about getting results, which means fewer surprises in team sheets.

But if I have, say, five more players with a DGW in 37, that means I can get away with five more players being rested and still get an advantage. There will be no convincing me to load up on Huddersfield, BHA and Bournemouth players lol

    2. tricky80
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

      Makes sense.

Plus you'd be best planning to
      - have strongest XI and weakest bench you can in 34,
      - strengthen bench using 35-37 FTs with as few additional hits sad possible.

I have been able to catch the leader in mini-league with Son (leader has Eriksen) and plan is continue to do that. Eriksen is playing too deep and Son absolutely cannot play that position. So being a better player is not always good in fpl terms.

Kaku seems to be forcing you to compromise with worse players in the rest of the team.
