Monitor – Romelu Lukaku

After starting our series of members’ articles on Wildcard targets with a look at Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, our sights turn to another in-demand frontman.

With Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero currently nursing injuries, Romelu Lukaku’s recent resurgence has not gone unnoticed by Fantasy Premier League managers.

Three goals and a pair of assists in the last five Gameweeks, allied with a trio of strikes over four cup outings in the same timeframe, means that the Man United striker is the second most bought player in FPL ahead of Gameweek 32.

Following a barren autumn period, Lukaku seems to have stepped up his output following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

With two double Gameweeks anticipated for the Red Devils, can the Belgian claim a place in our frontlines for the run-in?

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

If Sanchez drops down in price (currently on -95.1%) should I do Eriksen > Sanchez for -4?

He could be huge differential over these next few weeks if he can hot form.

I wouldn't consider Sanchez even if he was cheaper than that, that guy is lost , he runs like a brain dead terrier around the field ! I'd shift Alonso and would opt for Son instead of Eriksen.

Have to keep Marcos A with those fixtures. I would have Son but can't waste a transfer on that with no WC

Masuaku (£4.2) back in West Ham line up,
Could be a nicer enabaler on Wc , potentially H to STK & MUN in 34

I could do Lowton to Bavies and Gross to Kenedy but I like the look of the Brighton fixtures over the next 3 weeks (Leicester, Hudd, Palace) and Spurs face Chelsea and City in the same period so just playing the fixtures. What do you think?

Anybody out there taking a punt with their WC for the assumed DGW34?

I seem to be with the herd and in danger of having a template team.
I wonder if anyone has the nerve to try something different and getting in some big names who don't appear in the template teams we've all seen?

For example - these are all fantastic players who could explode over a DGW - but I'd be surprised if anyone has 2 or more: Hazard, Sanchez, Jesus, Aguero, Ozil, Martial, Pogba, Alli. Thoughts?

    1. Karan14
      • 8 Years

I don’t even have one of them :p

But most of them are rotation risks or out of form or not offering value for their price.

They are all good players who have scored well in FPL in the past, but not scored amazingly well this season. Substitute any other names you like... By having a similar team to everyone else it's simply FOMO and that results more or less in stalemate overall. I won FPL before following FFS when I did my own thing and I wonder if it's worth trying at least 1 or 2 different picks outside the template

    4. Clintymints
      • 14 Years

Still 2 games for 34 but most are planning for that. Some decent fixtures for single gameweek 34 teams before 34 itself

I'e seen the odd non-template team with perfectly fine picks with no doubles that I like too

    What is worth more?

    Bench boost or triple captain?

If kane has 2 tasty fixtures in 37, isn't it better to triple captain him then? - even if that week has 1 or 2 more fixtures than 34??

    So confused by all this!

    1. Netley Lucas
      • 8 Years

If the BB is marginally in favour of 37 then I'd certainly consider it Flynny.

    2. Karan14
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

Think BB37 is worth more if there are 6 dgw fixtures. But if it’s 5 each in 34 & 37 then BB34 & TC Kane 37.

Best it to wait to have for the fixtures to be announced so that we know what we have to plan around.

A small example that TC was better in GW34 (Kun & Sanchez) in 15/16 but it was better in GW37 (Kane & Sanchez) in 16/17.

    3. Prøfeßör …
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

It's not about having 1 or two more fixtures. It's the lack of quality and quantity of options in GW 34 for a BB if there are only 4 DWGs.

Yes but it still plays into the hand of wildcarders as they can choose best 11 for 34 if they plan to BB37. And if it’s the one with 5 each in both double then BB34 is still great for wildcard.

    Im on my wc now.
Can u choose one of these options and why please.
    Option:
    A) Murray, Smalling, Firmino, Lascelles or
    B) Barnes, Morgan, Lukaku, Christensen

I will use FH in gw 35 and have no TC or BB..

But Murray have good fixtures and 2 dgws. And Lascelles home next against Huddersfield.
And Morgan, is he a sure starter? What happend with Dragovic?

Lukaku v Vardy v Firmino. This is the main issue in my WC team - who to partner with Auba.
I’m not going Firmino simply because the others have 2 extra fixtures. His next two away games are hard imo aswell. Also he is at risk of rotation and could miss that Bmouth game. Lukaku is overperforming as seen by his delta. Spending 11m on a Mourinho attacker is crazy too and he’s not gonna score away to City. Finally Vardy who provides the best value. Also has 2dgws but I just feel Mahrez and Vardy is too much Leicester!

Just got Vardy and Mahrez, no distractions good fixtures and double double. Lukaku overpriced with average fixts outside fo the double. All my rivals have either Vardy or Firmino, so happy to have them and gamlbe on Vardy/Mahrez

After much deliberation, I settled on the Vardy/Firm/Auba combo. But my tv was really high so Vardy is essentially a cheap 3rd striker

Scheduling games to EL and CL nights are not supposed to happen either. Since the league is in full control of the scheduling, all hypotheticals should assume that they follow the simply rule of not having games during European weeks.

I presume so but I don't actually know. I do know that whoever wrote it has already got one thing wrong in the article...

                "What are Double Gameweeks?
A Double Gameweek occurs when two teams or more play twice in a single Gameweek.

Players in those teams have the opportunity to score more points since their tallies from both matches will be combined for their Gameweek total."

A DGW can occur with only 1 team playing twice.

If they can get that wrong then they can get the date wrong. 😉

    Mariappa, Doucoure, Milivojevic, Lukaku

    Mustafi, Hazard, King, Barnes

Because I have seen him play quite a bit this season, he gets up the field. 4.2 for a nailed DGW bench warmer could be a good enabler.

Deciding between Vardy & Mahrez on Wc,
Owned Mahrez past 3 Gws & has served me well..

Was tempted to switch to Vardy as he’s on pens, checked his history only 1 double digit return this season Gw1 compared to Mahrez 5 double digit returns..

    Mahrez it is for me!!
