Sky Sports Focus

Our Saturday schedule continues with the weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we take a look back at the weekend action before preparing you for the final Gameweek of the season.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 39 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Brighton vs Man UnitedAnthony Knockaert
Stoke vs Crystal PalaceWilfried Zaha
West Brom vs TottenhamCraig Dawson
Watford vs NewcastleRoberto Pereyra

Chelsea vs HuddersfieldJonas Lossl
Leicester vs ArsenalKelechi Iheanacho
Tottenham vs NewcastleHugo Lloris
Man City vs BrightonLeroy Sane
West Ham vs Man UnitedMark Noble

Eden Hazard (8.1%), Leroy Sane (7.7%), Hugo Lloris (7.3%) and Aaron Mooy (6%) were the only players with over five percent ownership to pick up the award over the Double Gameweek.

However, Wilfried Zaha, Marko Arnautovic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sit just below five percent and are well owned amongst the top 1,000 managers, so will have been the cause of major rank swings.

A special mention to Alex McCarthy – popular target in the February overhaul due to his cheap price – who up until now had largely failed to offer value.

He churned out 14 points in the Tuesday night match against Swansea City and will have been captained by many of his owners. That was another event to spark a major change in the rankings.

Gameweek 39 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 50 points or more in bonus for the season

Notes

When I needed them the most, my team let me down. A drop of 150 places in the penultimate Gameweek was certainly not ideal.

The dream of a top 100 finish now looks firmly out of reach, mainly due to a series of captain fails.

Alexis Sanchez failed to feature on Friday, leaving me with no skipper, Harry Kane then did his best Roberto Soldado impression before Raheem Sterling and Man City failed to score at home for the first time in the league this season.

The theme continued with Mike van der Hoorn missing out against Southampton, again leaving me without a captain until finally, Kane picked up one goal on the Wednesday for my first captaincy points.

I then went into Thursday’s game with high hopes after Sanchez started up front, giving me the perfect explosive differential. We all know how that went.

It was a truly disheartening sequence of events just as I was on the cusp of my target for the season.

With little left to play for now, I will likely opt for a differential captain on the final day in the hope of a miracle.

Thankfully, we get to see the teamsheets, which will have a big say on where I hand out the armband. As it stands, the in-form Wilfried Zaha will be my final roll of the dice.

Wish me luck, guys, and thanks for tolerating my ramblings during the season. Here’s to the next one.

    Ryan
    Davies Smalling Tarkowski
    Pogba Mahrez Son Willian Sterling
    Kane Jesus

    DDG Lowton Morgan Quaner

Morgan Pogba Willian > Arnautovic Milivojevic Otamendi for a -8?

Would then play Davies, Otamendi & Smalling with Burnley defenders as bench if smalling rotated?

    Bottomed.

Which pair do you think scores more?

    A) Willian + Bellerin (can't find any other fixed starters under 5.9)

    B) Dilva + 4.7 (Tarkowski/Sakho/TAA/Chambers)?

Willian Dilva Chambers all rotation risks, both options equally as bad

If i had to pick one I would probably go A

Am I the only one thinking that we should avoid Man City for the final game due to everyone being a rotation risk.
Pep has said that everyone will play until the end of the season. Foden, Diaz, and the like are all going to get minutes.
Sterling might play as a false 9, or he might not start at all as Jesus, Bernardo, Sterling, the youngsters, Sane all competing.
Gundogan Fernandinho, KDB, Yaya, DSilva also all competing.
Laporte, Otamendi, Stones, Kompany, Danilo, Walker, Mendy, Zivchenko all competing.
    Bravo and Emerson competing.
    Literally no certain starter.

Based on Pep's comments on the press conference, he is not going to play Foden/Diaz. He said he didnt like that they "needed" minutes to get a league medal and said that he would rather just give them his own medal. He will play a normal team and maybe sub on Foden/Diaz/Nmecha at the end if its sewn up.

Not sure what Pep is on about ? They don’t ‘need’ minutes to get a medal and Pep doesn’t need to give them his own medal - he just needs to give them one of the 40 ish medals that City will get to dish out as they see fit.

I think City you put out their strongest team

I posted a Guardian link once where Fergie said that is what happens - the Chelsea youngsters last season were all on the podium being given medals - of course you could just google it https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.skysports.com/amp/football/news/11679/11291057/who-gets-a-premier-league-winners-medal-for-manchester-city

Finding it hard to take a hit for Smalling even when trailing by 20. You’re basically banking on a defender getting baps or a goal on top of a cs, which if a lottery on final day!

Alternative is to bank on Cedric that seems madness though :/
