Meunier is Fantasy top scorer as Belgium beat England to World Cup bronze

Belgium’s World Cup Fantasy options rewarded their owners with a parting gift in their last match of the tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Those invested in England were left disappointed though, as they were unable to register any returns.

We’ve got all the goals and assists and Fantasy talking points from the World Cup third/fourth place play-off.

BELGIUM 2-0 ENGLAND

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS:

  • Thomas Meunier (£6.0m) – 12 points
  • Thibaut Courtois (£6.0m) – 7 points
  • Eden Hazard (£10.1m) – 6 points
  • Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m) – 6 points
  • Vincent Kompany (£5.7m) – 6 points
  • Toby Alderweireld (£5.8m) – 6 points
  • Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) – 5 points
  • Nacer Chadli (£6.9m) – 4 points

Thomas Meunier (£6.0m) was the top-scorer as Belgium beat England in the World Cup third/fourth place play-off.

The wing-back finally rewarded his 10.7 percent ownership with his first and final goal of the tournament, after showing promise both in qualifying and the earlier stages in Russia.

He even had a chance to add another strike in the second-half as his drive from the right was saved spectacularly by Jordan Pickford (£5.5m).

On top of his fourth-minute goal, assisted by Nacer Chadli (£6.9m), Meunier kept the clean sheet too. His defensive colleagues, Thibaut Courtois (£6.0m), Jan Vertonghen (£5.9m), Vincent Kompany (£5.7m) and Toby Alderweireld (£5.8m) also banked points for the shut-out.

England came into the tie a little more in the second-half with Harry Kane (£11.2m), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£5.7m) and Eric Dier (£5.7m) the most dangerous.

Owners of Romelu Lukaku (£10.0m) were initially disappointed by his withdrawal in the 59th minute but he was eventually awarded two points for playing 60th minutes by McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy.

Belgium finally put the game beyond England late in the second-half, catching them on the break. Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) was allowed too much space to thread Eden Hazard (£10.1m) through to slot home.

BELGIUM XI (3-4-2-1): Courtois; Vertonghen, Kompany, Alderweireld; Chadli (Vermaelen 39’), Witsel, Tielemans (Dembele 78’), Meunier; Hazard, De Bruyne; Lukaku (Mertens 60’).

ENGLAND XI (3-1-4-2): Pickford; Maguire, Stones, Jones; Dier; Rose (Lingard 45’), Delph, Loftus-Cheek (Alli 84’), Trippier; Sterling (Rashford 45’), Kane.

Who do you guys think representa the best value for money?

I think it's got to be willian at 7.5 or Mkhi at 7. Morata could come good at 9 if they don't get higuain.

Willian if he starts and doesn’t go to Barca or United by a mile. Mkhi will look to get after the first couple of game weeks

      Willian if Hazard leaves

Pedro could be quality early on. Hazard and Willian potentially leaving, and both could miss first few games because of the World Cup.

They’ll only miss one week at best, though, and we all know Mourinho is a liar.

Will Leicester be missing Vardy and Maguire?

On the plus side, that means Bailly is almost guaranteed.

West Ham have been on fire in this window. Their attack looks a little bit scary. Should challenge for European places under Pellegrini.

I’m not sure. Felipe Anderson seems a bit inconsistent when I’ve watched him for Lazio.

Loads of big names but I'm unsure if they'll actually perform.

How do you think Wolves will go this season?

Mid to bottom half, like most really good Championship teams that step up to the Premier League.

Top half for me. When you consider Newcastle finished 10th with a poorer team they should definitely be up there.

Top half. Challenging with Everton, Palace and Leicester for 10th-7th.

    Which pair is better:
    A) Sane + Wilson
    B) D.Silva + Zaha

      B

I'm not really a fan of either of those strikers but I'd go with B.

Not seen many teams with yarmolenko, could be a great signing for wham and only £7m. Worth a punt?

He was a bit inconsistent at Dortmund and their early fixtures are tricky. I'll wait before I bring any of them in.

Not too worried in inconsistent, expect that for a £7m punt. Good point on fixtures though, still in my team for now but may change.
