Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

Still early days in terms of attempts but not sure if the defence is too weak

I'd ditch Speroni since he's likely to be 3rd choice at his club, probably the most likely 4.0 keeper to drop to 3.9 too. Personally think Cairney is better than Neves at the same price.

Cedric also rumoured not to start GW1 and Daniels has threat for his place at Bournemouth now too

Some risks - Neves, Maddison are new to the league. Mitro has been awful before.
Sanes fitness was called out by pep so probably worth keeping an eye out there same applies to aguero game time
Bobby just returned to preseason as well

Yeah cheers I’ll keep and eye on them and would quite like to downgrade Mitro but not sure who to, them could change Neves to Cairney. I’m gonna stick with Maddison as I like him as an outsider pick

I'm not 100% sold on Foster for the start of the season, Cedric is looking unlikely to start GW1 as well. Personally not a fan of Neves - I think Cairney is a better option for the same price

Yeah I see what you're saying, would Patricio/Fabianski, also Doherty/Schindler plus, Cairney the Scottish lad be more preferable alternatives than what I have??

I'd definitely do Neves to Cairney if i were you, feel especially at the start of the season there's a few games where i wouldn't mind Cairney come off the bench as there would be a chance he's nicked something but Neves is a much more unknown quantity because of how deep he plays.

If you are running with only one 4.5 you're probably looking at have to change them with every slight fixture swing - Fabianski and Patricio are probably the best choices over the course of the season but without some luck you'll be lucky to get much from Fabianski for the first few games of the season so i'd probably settle for Patricio until Fab's fixtures clear up if you want a set and forget 4.5

            Cheers pal, sound advice!
Rui Patricio has been on my radar for ages, but he's part of a prompted team, so he's a risk from the start.... And I love tom Cairney as I'm Scottish myself, but feel as if neves with his long range and set-piece specialism could be more effective than Cairney... Thanks again though

I honestly see Neves as being one of Tadic-esque players who will never produce the quantity of points that their contribution to play demands but that's just my feeling on it.

I agree about the scepticism with Wolves but they're probably the highest quality promoted team in years and Patricio is easily the best individual goalkeeper priced at 4.5 (obviously the defence in front of him matters too) so i think he's probably going to contribute decent points long term , at least for saves.

Yeah well for me it's foster or Patricio... Foster has been in the EPL for years so I have trust in him as an option... Neves and Cairney is such a difficult decision, but like you said, Neves has more "quality" so too speak than Cairney... Is the rest of my team ok?... And show me yours if you don't mind, I'd love too share a good opinion when I can!

                  Ederson (Stek)

                  Salah Mane Richarlison Maddison Stephens
                  Arnautovic Aguero Zaha

I think the rest of your team is good to go, if Pedro nails down his spot he could be an excellent differential and I am also a big of Mitro as a player, just personally didn't get him in - but if he hits form he's an easy downgrade from one of my 7.0s

Then the bulk of the rest of the team are all value picks , good coverage of the big teams

That's exactly my thoughts with my own team, I'll send through pre-season!...
                    Maddison is a good differential.
And David luiz, I'm looking at him aswell, but unsure how chelsea will set-up from the start... That's a good starting 11 Anyway ATM!... Good luck mate!

I've toyed quite a lot with that idea as I am a spurs fan here and i've started every season with the great dane but for some reason just feel Mane will outscore him for the early season, and i'll probably be wildcarding early on, very good point though!

Strong team! I like the ‘pool double up, especially in the short term. I say stick with it!

My only question is about your defense. It looks like you plan to run a 3-4-3, but you have an extra mid-priced defender. Why not got for a 4.5 instead of either Bailly or Luiz and then rotate your 3rd defender, reinvesting the extra 1.0? Or even downgrade Bamba to a 4.0?

      1. slove

Quite like the back 3 i have at the minute , i think they're all value picks - as soon as some valid 4.5s start raising their heads like Ben Mee last season then they'll be in to do the job at the back. Very valid point though!

Bamba is mostly an insurance policy incase WB doesn't turn into the magic bean everyone is touting him as, i am benching Maddison GW1 with WB starting and if he doesn't play then Bamba replacing him, I need a solid substitute to come on until i ditch the deadwood (which isn't easy to do while chasing bandwagons)

I hear you. Most people seem to think Peltier is a good bet, so I can see him as a viable 4.0 alternative to Bamba (same team and all!).

With Maddison, I would encourage you to rethink benching him, if for no other reason than he’s a set-piece specialist. They are notoriously consistent, regardless of the opposition. Away to MUN looks intimidating, but an assist from a corner or a goal from a free kick don’t require possession or particularly strong buildup play.

Finally getting to a point where I'm happy with my draft, so here's my first RMT:

    Patricio (Norris)
Bailly | Robbo | Tomkins (WB | Peltier)
Salah | Mane | Mahrez | Jota (Chalobah)
    Aub | Zaha | Arnie

Appreciate the risks of the two 4m defs, hoping one of them can nail down a spot - not worried about 5th defender really.
Only other doubts are Bailly (Mou factor/nailed?), the Wolves keepers (can they replicate their defensive solidity from last season?), Mahrez (nailed?)...

    Thoughts?

Feel like you're hoping for one too many things to go your way for the start of the season , Bailly, WB , Jota and Patricio all have an element of punt about them in terms of how many points they're going to get vs. others at their price range - couple that with Mahrez who could be getting rotated and if it all goes tits up you're looking at an early wild card - if it goes your way though you'll be laughing

Thanks for the considered reply - depending on the CS and any other revelations this week, looking at:

        Bailly > Luiz
        Mahrez > Mkhi
        Peltier > Mendy

Worried about having no City attack, although it might be worth waiting a week or two for KDB or any other regular starter.

        1. slove
          • 6 Years

Luiz and Mendy are also unknown quantities at the minute but like you said after the CS you'll have more of an idea on them so if you keep on the alert you'll probably be fine by the start of the season.

Maybe run with Aguero for the first few weeks then to swap to Aub after, i know its dangerous to pre plan transfers but this could be worth it, and if not Aguero will probably stick close to Aubs scoring as long as he keeps his place

Yeah Kun v Aub feels like a pretty big decision - Huddersfield at home in GW2 could be a turkey shoot, but can also imagine Aub scoring in his first couple of games too. How's your squad shaping up?

What makes it template? A previous comment said this team had a handful of punty players, so how do you square your comment with that one? And I genuinely want to know: what makes a team “template”, and what does the alternative look like?

          my suggestions are
          - downgrade either mane (you already have liverpool coverage) or zaha
          - upgrade one of the 4.0 and if you can upgrade chalobah to a 5.0 that will play (neves, costa, cairney, ralls, hughes)

I get the feeling that Liverpool are going to come out all guns blazing, and I think Mane could outscore most mids - thus selecting him. Zaha could go for Wood to get 0.5 to upgrade one of the 4.0ms though...

Maybe think about D Silva instead of Mahrez to upgrade one of the 4.0’s? PPG isn’t perfect, but his was higher than either Sané or KDB last season. If he hadn’t had personal issues last season, I think he would have been in the 9-10 price range this season.

Have to agree with other comments regarding defense. Luiz, Stones too risky plus would rather have playing third forward. With rotation I feel havng playing bench players will be important this year.

    RMT

    Patricio
    Gomez Rudiger Bailly Mee
Salah Sanchez Mane Richarlison Hudson Odoi
    Kane

    Subs: Wan Bisaka, Sorloth, Kamara

Gomez will start the first two gameweeks and I think theres a decent chance he could nail down that centre back spot beside Van Dijk. He has impressed in that position before for England. Klopp has already confirmed that he will play there this season and Matip is injured so he should start the opening gameweek.

I want Kane for Gameweek 2 especially since it will be Spurs first game at home and its a nice fixture against Fulham, a fixture I want to captain Kane for (Even though its August yes). Newcastle are a mess right now also so he could well delivier in the opening gameweek if he gets minutes. From Gameweek 3 onwards, I will look to downgrade Kane to an Arsenal striker in Gameweek 3 once Spurs fixtures get tricky (with United and Liverpool in 2 of their next 3 games).

I will play Hudson Odoi for opening gameweek if it looks like he will start (with Willian future in the air and Hazard not yet fit). He was very exciting yesterday as we all know by now.

I am wondering to myself if I should downgrade Rudiger to Luiz and use the extra 0.5 to upgrade Sorloth to Ings (if he goes to Palace) or another 5.5 striker. I am wondering if Sorloth's place in the team is at risk now. Hes been very enticing up to now with goals in pre season and considering hes only 5.0. I could alteratively use the extra 0.5 if I downgrade Rudiger to Luiz by upgrading Hudson Odoi to Hughes. There is no other 5.0 midfielder I'm interested in (Cairney included). I do think Hudson Odoi would be very fun to own though hmmm.

    What do we think?

Gomez is very much under the radar to be honest. With the same price point (5.0) there are lots of people going with TAA or Clyne but its anyones guess who will be playing right back for opening game (and that should be a position that is rotated a lot). Its Gomez and Klavan right now going for other CB spot (with Matip injured and Lovren not back for opening gameweek). I think with a couple of good perfromances Gomez could nail down that spot. Its not like the fans will be begging Klopp to put Lovren back in the team.

Boruc is my second keeper. I think Patricio will be one of the highest scoring keepers this season, and I dont likr rotating keepers as I always end up putting the high scoring one on the bench. Problem is there isnt really any good 4.5 defensive options. Maybe I will try get Bednarek at 4.0 if it looks like he will be starting.

    Foster(Fabianski)
    VVD - Mendy - Daniels (Wan-B) (Bennett)
Mhki - Salah - Pedro - Pogba (Ward)
    Soerloth - Aguero - Auba

    0.5 to spare

Thoughts on Pogba? More offensive role after the arrival of Fred? Likely to start GW1 ?
Aguero/Auba out for Firmino and upgrade Soerloth to Zaha?
VVD or Robertson? - Good possibilty that VVD will be on some direct freekicks.

With both Aguero and Auba in my team I have good captaincy options from GW2 onwards (with the option to downgrade Aguero and get Salah in if Salah is on fire or if Aguero is being rotated). So tempted to just go with Mane and free up 3.5.

expected a lot more from Gray in his first season in PL after he came up from the championship so wary of picking him.
          good luck whatever you decide

First draft. Ticks a lot of boxes for me although I know Austin is a slight gamble (and no playing second keeper). Reckon TAA will start GW1.

    Patricio/4.0
    TAA Bailly PVA (Cedric Wan-Bissaka)
Salah (c) Mane Richarlson Sane (Ward)
    Aguero Zaha Austin

Klopp sounds hopeful of TAA being ready but he is rotation risk. I would punt in Hudson- Odoi as fifth mid or Sané to Mahrez and upgrade to Cairney.

          Cairney plays for Fulham

    Currently have…
    Patricio
    Mendy TAA Coleman
    Salah Sane Richarlison Jota Cairney
    Aguero Auba
    (4.0 Wan B Kamara Peltier)

    Thinking…
    Coleman to Cedric
Sane to D Silva (last season and all that)
    Kamara to Austin.
0.5 in bank for a 6.5 to Mkhitaryan
Cairney off bench for city rotation / inevitable Austin injury
    And pray Peltier's head improves.

yeah maybe best to stay away from Everton defence. Is Jota going to do so well in the PL? I want Auba but prob from GW 3

First two for Auba not great but he should get one and want to protect the transfer. Yeah nice agent but Jota is def a punt and tagged for Mkhi. Trusting Everton fixtures and fresh Richarlison may bear some fruit before the wildcard to sort the defence and get some spurs.

Right guys havent been fully focused but now I need to be. How's this team looking please? Thanks all.

    Alison
    Mendy - Vert - Bailey
    Neves - Willian - Sanchez - Mane - Sane
    Aguero - Arnie

    Tomkins - Kamarra - Peltier

Is Vert back from WC. Lots of talk of Mendy not makng GW1. Would wait and see with Chelsea under new manager. I want Arnie but their fixtures are very tricky

      Very nice imo
I don't say that to a lot of teams

        Oh wait, no Salah.
Mate, I'm sorry but as good as teams look without him, he is a must in my eyes, don't mess around in that regard.
Downgrade somewhere for 2.5 and upgrade Sanchez (Won't start striker like he is in pre-season)

          he could do:
          Alisson ➡ Patricio/Fabianski/Ryan
          Vertonghen ➡ Robertson/VVD
          Willian ➡ Jota/Richarlison
          Sane ➡ Mahrez/D.Silva

You are goalie down on bench.
      Wan-B best 4 m defender option
Starting defenders all at risk of not starting game 1 other than Bailly
Sanchez likely to be pushed back if Lukaku starts and no Salah given his high ownership big risk
Willian very risky as not turned up yet
Cairney, Hughes or Costa better 5 m mids as play more attacking positions than Neves
So sorry but think there are too many risks and issues with this squad

Good team. I think you will need a strong alternative to Aguero as captain. E.g. Kane aubameyang salah good luck!

    Done - no more tinkering
(and back in the real world ...)

    Begovic / Fabianski
Van Dijk / Bellerin / Shaw / Cedric / Tomkins
    Salah / Sigurdsson / Kenedy / Eriksen / Brady
    Aubamegang / Arnautovic / Tosun

Shaw probably short term (unless regular starter?)
Brady - hoping hamstring injury is not bad
Final tinker: Sigurdsson to Mkhitaryan, and add 0.5 to defence?

Don't love your midfield other than salah and Eriksen. Would prefer wood or zaha to tosun. Downgrade shaw to 4.0 and use the money in midfield. Best of luck anyway.

Bellerin => Bailly (might return at GW3 if Arsedef is tight and Manure are leaky and/or have settled the CB picks)
        Shaw => Tarkowski
Brady => Armstrong (a BIG hopeful punt)

Sticking with Sigurdsson until know whether Mkhitaryan is a regular

    RMT please guys

    Ederson / Skete
Robertson / Pereira / Cedric / Wan bissaka / Bednarek
    Salah / Eriksen / Ozil / RIcharlisson / Masuaku
    Aguero / Zaha / King

cant make up my mind between Aguero and Auba ....
