Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Spencer has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Spencer’s RMT

Fabianski – Bettinelli

Mendy – Robertson – Luiz – Boly – Tomkins

Salah – Mahrez – Pedro – Deulofeu – Stephens

Aguero – Arnautovic – Zaha

Goalkeepers

  • 9.0 on goalkeepers.  Fabianski with FPL pedigree.  Unsure on Bettinelli, but rotation with Fabianski looks good.
  • First 10 games: CRY – BOU – BUR – WLV – eve – WAT – eve – bha – cda – BOU

Defence

  • Mendy/Robertson/Luiz/Boly/Tomkins
  • Most I’ve spent in defence from the start – I normally play just one big hitter and 4 rotating cheapies.
  • All defenders with potential for attacking points.
  • Mendy a risk worth taking, looked brilliant before his injury.
  • Luiz a risk, so will keep a close eye on the Community Shield.
  • Tomkins looks to be the best 4.5 for me.

Midfielders

  • Got to start with Salah.  Can always downgrade.
  • Mahrez was brilliant at Leicester.  Playing with better players at Man City, I can only see him getting better.  Another one to look out for in the Community Shield.
  • Pedro is a risk, but if he’s nailed he will get attacking points.
  • Watford fixtures look favourable.  Deulofeu looked grerat when on loan from Barcelona last season.
  • Stephens is my 4.5 bench player.

Forwards

  • Aguero is world class.  Possibly some doubts on whether he starts or not.  Keeping an eye on the Community shield.  Will swap to Aubameyang if there are doubts.
  • Arnautovic ended last season in spectacular fashion and this has continued into pre-season.  Made the mistake of not getting him in last time around.
  • Zaha also reclassified as a forward this season.  Does this mean more bonus points?  Doubts over who his strike partner will be at Crystal palace, but I see him returning points regardless. Will need to reconsider if he moves.

1.0 itb to use in an emergency.  eg upgrade Mahrez to Mane, or Deulofeu to Doucoure.

Conclusion

The Key here is flexibility.  Setting price brackets for positions and then finding the right players to fit in.  eg I don’t know if Pedro is the right 6.5 to have, but can easily switch to Jota, Richarlison, or whoever else.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

      I would go for 4.5/4 in goal, and upgrade in defence - as well as downgrading Sterling to upgrade Stephens (and bench CHO)

      I am wary of not having a out and out striker, Arnie has a tough start to the season matchups wise but is a bargain.

      I think Mahrez could go either way, I am still not sure how he will fit in with a already stacked and lethal city midfield

        thanks - yeah, Arnie and Mitro are the focal points for their team - that's what I look for in a player - will they be their team's main output? Same logic behind all of the midfield - bar Mahrez, as you say. He's a risk, but I'm banking on him playing more games than not.

          I think 13 is fair. He's by far the highest in the game and deserves it. I'd probably 15 for him if he can put up the same numbers - constant capt as well.

      I like it, Jota and Hudson Odoi could be good bench choices as the season progresses. Richarlison will fit in with Marco Silva at Everton.

      Mahrez Im not so sure just yet, fantastic player but could get lost in the shuffle of a fantastic man city midfield. Arnie is the focal point for West Ham but I dont like the matchups the first couple of weeks for them tohugh

    Some great teams popping up lately but also some teams that are way off the mark because they contain so many new signings to the premier league. If there is one thing i have learnt since joining this site and gaining much premier league knowledge from you all; It is that you need to pick a balanced squad throughout and try to resist the newer boys until you see they are settled and play week in week out. Join the bandwagon as it starts not when it's rode. There will be a template squad! Use it and adjust to suit what you require in a finished team, make sure you have a standout obvious captain choice weekly. Salah i could have captained weekly last season but i made silly choices catching up. Use the information others offer! They finish above you for a reason? they know what their talking about.

      Sometimes I feel like people are unwilling to take any risks because they want to maintain. They'd rather not move up than move down. 4 ish seasons ago I was in the top 1000 could have stayed the course but wanted to get to try to get into the top 100. In the last couple of weeks I made a few bad moves and ended up 9,000 it sucked but I tried. I believe calculated risk are the fun in the game.

    I realise my sub keeper wont play but im happy to have any 4m non-playing keeper there. I think rotating keepers isn't always easy to predict so happy to just set and forget one. Also don't mind ditching the third striker position.

    Im fairly settled on this, but few areas im still deliberating:
    1) 5.5m defender - Luiz vs Coleman vs PVA vs Bailly
    2) 6.5m mid - could also be Jota or maybe Pedro if he looks secured of starts
    3) Man City mids - could just go with one, i.e Sane could be Mane or Eriksen.

      I don’t think Fab is nailed enough to set and forget. Adrian played a lot last year and not just because Hart is/was poo.

      If you want Firmino, upgrade Zaha then downgrade Arnie to a 4.5m. Then play 3-5-2. (This is what I've done)

      If you want Salah I don’t think you should try fit Bobby. You could downgrade Aguero to Bobby and up one of Richarlison/Jota to Ozil or a 9.5 and downgrade a defender or two?

      Or one of Zaha/Arnie to Bobby and find 2m (downgrade Richarlison/Jota to a 4.5).

      Think they both look weaker than what you have

      I would play two 6.5s instead of Ramsey and Cairney. If you're going to play 3-5-2 with Auba and Firmino then it'll be hard to have a strong defense. Maybe Ederson -> 4.5 but probably not a good idea.

    RMT please. I'll walk you through my thoughts.

    Ederson - Stekelburg
    van Dijk - Luiz - Stones - Bailly - Wan-Bissaka
    Salah - Mané - Mahrez - Pedro - Richarlison
    Arnautovic - King - Gray.

    Looking to play 3-5-2 with the opportunity to go 4-4-2 or 4-5-1. I also would like to point out, that I am looking to save my Wildcard, and therefore looking to have somewhat a strong bench to cover fixtures, rotation, players returning etc.

    Bench first week: Arnie, Stones, Wan- Bissaka
    Bench second week: King/Gray, Luiz, Wan-Bissaka

    Would try to make a double/triple transfer after GW2. Basically the striker who do not deliver will go. But could do something like Mané + Striker (+ striker)-> Laca/Auba + midfield (+cheap striker). If Odoi gets minutes I could do Mané, Pedro + Striker to fund Auba/Laca + Mkhi + mid. I like CB's since I think they are the most nailed, and I would like to set and forget those and focus on using transfers in my attack.

    Defence is a little weak but each of them have a relitively easy game GW1.

      Cedric might not be ready for GW1. Daniels has competition for his place and do you really want a Bournemouth defender? Midfield and fowards look good. Splash some of your 2m on some decent defenders.

      Something does not seem right about your defense it just looks too thin.I really do not think that Daniels,Cedric and Speroni are good picks and there is no guarantees that Firminio will start the season.

      Decent 3-5-2. Fowards aren't the best but the midfield could make up for it. Moura is my only concern, he is a transfer waiting to happen imo.

          You might be best just starting with Mkhi so because you can bet that some other unforeseen problem will pop up and might stop you making that transfer when you will want to.
