RMT and GTG Collection: RedLightning

With so many RMTs and GTGs (good to go) on site, we’re collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

Site regular and moderator RedLightning has here given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding, but this will work best if you help out others as well as getting responses.

RedLightning’s Squad

Fabianski – Patricio

Robertson – Mendy – Alonso – Walker – Wan Bissaka

Salah – Mane – Richarlison – Jorginho – Stephens

Aguero – Arnautovic – Jimenez

My GW1 squad was a bit different. If I had asked it to be RMT’ed in advance of GW1 I would probably have been deluged with replies of “too much spent on defence” but I don’t agree – elite defenders offer excellent value.

I’m very happy with this squad as it stands and it should be good for a few gameweeks, so I’m not yet planning any specific changes to it, unless events such as injuries make changes desirable; after that, fixtures will need to be considered.

I will be hoping to keep my wildcard till at least the second international break, by which time we should have better information about who is fit, playing and in form and who isn’t.

I avoided players from teams that had reached the Quarter-finals or Semi-finals of the World Cup, apart from Mendy, and many of them are not yet back to full match fitness, but some of them (such as Sterling, Alexander-Arnold and Pogba) could soon come into consideration.

This squad will normally play in 4-3-3 formation, but it has the flexibility to sometimes vary from that (such as in GW1, when it seemed a bit risky to play both Man City defenders away at Arsenal).

Goalkeepers

Rotating 4.5m goalies. Fabri also rotates well with Fabianski, but I have more faith in Patricio and Wolves. I did consider de Gea as a stand-alone, but needed to make various savings in order to afford Mane. I also considered having a 4.5m stand-alone, but had 0.5m spare and this seemed like the best place to spend it.

Defenders

4 elite defenders (not just premium, but the best that money can buy) plus Wan-Bissaka as a magic bean. I will probably bring in a United defender for one of the other elites at some point. Bailly was actually in my draft squad as a 5th elite defender until his injury doubt, but I wouldn’t want to leave WB out now. It was a difficult choice between Alonso and Azpilicueta, but I expect them both to outscore the cheaper Chelsea alternatives. Alexander-Arnold may be a good alternative to Robertson.

Midfielders

Salah should be my regular captain, Mane and Richarlison should be regular starters, and Jorginho may occasionly come in as a 4th mid. There are no midfield magic beans to compare with Tom Carroll and Loftus-Cheek last season, so the bench-sitting 5th midfielder was a difficult choice. I was on McDonald for a long time, but then changed to Stephens at the last minute, not even giving me time to change my bench order. I would like to bring in Sterling at some point, but that will involve getting rid of one of my other City players. Neves, Jota and Fraser are also on the watchlist.

Forwards

Aguero could be an occasional alternative captain. It was a toss-up between Aguero and Aubameyang, but the deciding factor was that I may want to captain Aguero in GW5. Zaha could be a good alternative to Arnautovic. Jimenez was the best forward available at his price.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Should I save? Who should I look to bring in? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

    Ederson,
    Janmaat, Davies, Tomkins
    Sanchez, Salah, Mane, Jota
    Tosun, Lacazette, King

    4.0 - WanB, Peltier, Hudson-Odoi

Plan this week was to do Sanchez > KDB but obviously he's now injured. What do you think about Sanchez & King > Bilva & Vardy for a -4 hit?

Sterling is the man I want ideally, but means downgrading 0.5 somewhere else. Maybe Janmaat?

Does Sanchez + Lacazette -> Bernardo + Kane entice you? 🙂

It did give me a lightbulb moment with Kane home to Fulham. I just can't let go of Lacazette though. I know he's not everyone's cuppa tea but I genuinely think he's gonna smash it soon. Expecting Auba on the left and Laca central and with those fixtures after Chelsea... looks spicy.

I like your team a lot, Lucas Moura I would give another week or two and swap him for a more in form player if he's not in the points. Strong 11 and strong bench, but I'd say Tomkins is likely to get 1 point against Liverpool, would be tempted to bring in Daniels for the weekend.

Looks really good tbh...it may start to get tough if 2 of the elite defenders blank 2/3 GWs in a row...e.g. I remember us all holding onto Alonso for far too long last year.

Please rate my team for GW2 (unchanged from GW1 apart from Gk rotation)

    Hart
    Shaw, Mendy, Robertson,
Hudson Odoi, Salah (c), Mane, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez
    Aubamayang, Zaha

    Bench: Begovic, Wan-Bissaka, Kamara, Bednarek.

I've saved the transfer to have a double before GW3. Scored a respectable 92 in GW1, hoping that with De Bruyne's injury Mahrez gets a full 90 minutes and runs rampant, even considering him for captain. Hudson Odoi reportedly missed out on the squad for GW1 due to a small injury in training, so he gets another week. The double transfer would allow me to bring in someone like Richarlison for either Mahrez or Bernardo Silva, if either look like being rotation victims, and replace Odoi if he doesnt play again. May upgrade Kamara for Sturridge (!).

Now that KDB is injured it's more likely that Bilva will get a run in the centre, rather than Mahrez, who has to compete with Sané & Sterling on the wings.

If I were you I'd swap Mahrez for Richarlison, then use the cash to strengthen your bench a bit. However, he could be a tasty differential!

    Mendy, Robertson, Shaw
    Salah, Eriksen, Richarlison, Neves, Masuaku
    Aguero (C), Aubemayang

    4.0GK, Boly, AWB, Quaner

Not 100% sure about captain choice/benching order of Boly/AWB. Any of you veterans thoughts/comments would be appreciated

    GW2:
    Fabianski
    Robertson, Mendy, Pereira
    Salah, B.Silva, Jota, Fraser
    Aubameyang, Aguero, King

Bench - Patricio, Peltier, Cork, Wan-Bissaka

Would really like Mane in there and will maybe get him eventually, possibly when using my wildcard.

Was thinking of taking out Cork and bringing in Kante, as I feel he will be a more attacking threat this season. I could change Jota for Neves or King for Wilson, but it has only been 1 week (also think Jota and King are more nailed on). My worry is Wolves' were not that convincing against 10 man Everton and have Leicester away before a visit from Man City.

Please RMT and what do you think would be best transfer? Do I wait for GW3 and use my 2 xfers?

    Bench: Boruc, AWB, Stephens, Peltier

      1. DIMITRIS
        • 5 Years
        5 years, 8 months ago

I was well aware of that, but was hoping for Siggy assists and Tosun goals, instead, I got Jagielka mental tackle that cost me Siggy playing the whole game and very limited chances up front, where only Richo could do something because of his pace, and that's exactly what happened. I think I'll just wait to see one Everton game where they'll attack as they should, and then see what to do next.
Thanks a lot for suggestion mate!

Strong defensively. Personally don’t think you need both VVD and Robbo, choose one. Then use the funds from downgrading him to maybe bring in a 7.5 mid (Bilva, or Ramsey/Willian from next week over Jota could be good). Very nice team actually though

      Double Pool defence seems excessive.
      Looks a save.

    Foster
    Robertson Luiz Shaw
    Salah Sanchez Mane Eriksen Jota
    Mitrovic King

    Fabs; Peltier, WB, Kamara...0.0itb

Dreading no city, but don’t necessarily mind my team for the week. Might take MC on the nose this week and save, then go Sanchez + Eriksen + Jota > Sterling + Silva + 6.5-7.5 who looks good (Rambo, Rich, Maddison)

    Thoughts?

Am I correct assuming that Sarri has said Kante will be used in a special way.
Bombing forward in attack as shown by opening goal at Huddersfield!

I wouldn't say 'bombing forward'. Further forward than Jorginho, but not as advanced as whoever the 3rd mid turns out to be. It should mean Kante puts in a few through balls, gets a couple more assists but not an earth-mover.

Looks good no changes required. I won't mention you are missing a certain player as you have lots of easy routes to getting him if required.

Shakey start going with Jota over Richarlison and then holding off on transferring and missing the price rise

    Mkhi to Richarlison or hold?

Consider the two big hitters up front the rest doesn't look too bad. The bench too bad to show us? If you got Wan-B it's fine anyway.

Hard call. I would say Mkhi - hard to judge anything from these first 2 hard fixtures.
Hold out til GW3 and see what you think. You have a bit of cash to play with even if missing a few price rises might be painful.
