Hazard and Hudson-Odoi start for Chelsea as Higuain returns

The final match of Blank Gameweek 33 takes place this evening, as West Ham United make the short trip across London to face Chelsea. Kick-off at Stamford Bridge is at 20:00 BST.

Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi keep their places in Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI and are joined in Chelsea’s front three by Gonzalo Higuain, who replaces the benched Olivier Giroud.

Given Chelsea’s congested fixture schedule and Sarri’s comments on Friday about “having to change”, there are perhaps not quite as many alterations as we anticipated to the Blues’ line-up.

Sarri’s only other change is an expected one, with Antonio Rudiger replacing Andreas Christensen at centre-half.

Pedro has recovered from injury to take his place among the substitutes alongside Christensen, Giroud, Willian, Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic.

There is no Marcos Alonso in the squad, with the Spanish left-back having been a doubt for this match after suffering a hamstring injury.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has recovered from back and hamstring problems to start, however.

After the Hammers’ dismal display against Everton in Gameweek 32, there is perhaps no surprise that Manuel Pellegrini has made five changes to his starting XI.

Marko Arnautovic isn’t one of those changes, however, despite Javier Hernandez‘s return to the West Ham team.

Felipe Anderson and Ryan Fredericks have recovered from injury to start, while Fabian Balbuena is in the Hammers’ starting XI for the first time since December.

Mark Noble is also recalled as Issa Diop, Pablo Zabaleta, Robert Snodgrass, Pedro Obiang and Lucas Perez make way.

All bar Zabaleta of that quintet are among the substitutes tonight.

West Ham were the first team to prevent Hazard from registering an attacking return this season when the two clubs drew 0-0 in Gameweek 6.

The Belgian winger was the third-most-bought and third-most-captained Fantasy asset of Gameweek 33.

Noble is the only member of West Ham’s starting XI to score or assist an away goal this calendar year.

The Hammers are without a victory away from the London Stadium since December.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have kept clean sheets in seven of their last ten home league matches.

Chelsea XI: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Higuain, Hazard.

West Ham United XI: Fabianski, Fredericks, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Noble, Rice, Anderson, Lanzini, Arnautovic, Hernandez.

Right then, I've made my WC bed and I'm going to have to lie in it for the rest of this week.
Good luck to the rest of you.

Is Johnny too much of a risk for DGW you think?

He's had a nice run of full games since GW17 pretty much. But was benched last game v's Utd. Just rested for the cup game or his place under threat?

My hunch is that he was rested or had some minor issue why he didn't play. Should be ok with the rest of the season.

I guess he's the smart and safe choice. But he's likely to bring in grand total of 4-5 points. CHO could easily top that if he starts against Burnley.

Rom, but it's a waste of a BB spot. My cheapest attacker is Deulo at 5.7.

I suppose once GW35 has passed it won't matter though. So not a big deal.

He still has WC and BB. I think it's pretty massive lead to have at this point of the season. Managers close to him have to resort on differentials to catch him and risk losing more ground.

      Really nice team.

A few small things though. I'm not keen on Brighton double DF personally and I'd definitely ditch Kola. Ars away form plus he often gets pulled early if Ars are struggling.

Recency bias - he hadn't scored in the last two round of fixtures (the second of the double in GW32 as he was injured and because City didn't play in GW33) so he's being overlooked.

But also there's loads of good forward options and it's difficult to fit Kane and Aguero into one team.

    3. Differential C (Mark)
      • 8 Years

Who is looking at Sane from City? If Sterling/BSilva start in the CL game today, then expect Sane to come in for the PL match against Palace. City then have another tough CL second leg next midweek, thus you expect Sane to get at least 2 starts in the next game 3 games.

I feel he may be the right City go to man instead of Sterling. Scored in his last start as well.

I'm not sure if this is a factor, but Sane has been unbelievable in the champions league in City's last few games so I wonder if Pep will primarily use him as his champions league LW and rest or rotate one of Sterling or B.Silva?

To be honest, we can't second guess Pep at all, if you're going City midfield its surely one of Sterling, B.Silva or KDB.

Deeney was one of the first players in my team. 5.9m on pens, captain, on form, good double.

See how Champions league pans out this week RE Aguero and Sterling. I may drop Sterling yet.

Yeah I prefer Deeney to other Watford options, but keep looking back at Aguero. Scored vs. Pool and hat tricks vs. Arsenal and Chelsea already this season. In both of those hat trick games he was subbed early.

Sterling does worry me, and I am increasingly tempted to switch to Kun. When fit I think he is more likely to play than Sterling. I expect him to play both of those big games in the double. City have too many wing options.

Think I’m about settled in this, I don’t trust arsenal defence and can’t warrant a midfielder from them, and with either of their strikers a rotation risk I’ll be going without.

    Gunn, Ryan
    Robbo, Doherty, Trippier, Dunk, Duffy
    Mane, Sterling, Eriksen, Jota, JWP
    Kane, Jimi, Deeney

The intention is to get TAA for the hud game by selling Dunk and Duffy with 2FT. Then going for some united players for the last 2, probably Rashford in place of Deeney.

No Watford defender is nailed, I’m willing to live with 4 games each from triple Brighton. I won’t use a transfer before GW35 so I can use 2FT to get triple Pool vs Hud.

dunk to mariappa is a terrible idea.

laporte over trippier (city conceded 10 shots on target since gw25 and kwp can play)
          solid otherwise

    2. The 12th Man

Looks good. May go triple Brighton defence myself even though most frown upon it. They can be benched or taken out like you say.
The only one I have a slight doubt over is Trippier. Think I’d consider Lloris as Spurs defensive cover, and cheaper.

      1. The Tinkerman
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 27 days ago

Yeah, the thing that puts me off Lloris is that I can’t play him vs Hud if I want to play Ryan in his double. In this arrangement I can play Trippier vs Hud alongside triple Brighton.

    3. thegaffer82
      • 12 Years
      5 years, 27 days ago

I like it. Triple Brighton seems a overkill mind you. I'd be surprised if they keep more than one CS over their 4 DGW fixtures. Might even be none.

Spread the love with Dunk>Valery plus a bit of change?

Also keep an eye out for Aurier news. Loris is a cheaper and safer way into Spurs DF and Trippier could become Laporte maybe?

      1. The Tinkerman
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 27 days ago

Yeah Trippier will be gone for either a city of united player by GW36/37. Continent on Aurier fitness. I don’t want Lloris for reasons explained above, I’d be more inclined to switch to Vertonghen.

        A) Deeney, Sterling

Sterling’s minutes worry me, and Kun is a big game player, outrageous record vs top 6. If fit I expect him to play 60+ in both games in the double.
