Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 11 Captain Poll

Manchester City players are expected to do battle for the Fantasy Premier League captaincy again this week.

You can now vote in the latest poll either below or in the sidebar of the website.

After dominating the debate for Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa, Pep Guardiola’s men now get to host a Southampton side who conceded nine times to Leicester on Friday night.

As we explained in great detail in our Scout Notes of that match, that scoreline was heavily influenced by some of the worst defending the Premier League has ever seen.

If Ralph Hasenhüttl is unable to stop the rot, as we saw him fail to achieve even at half-time on Friday night, then Manchester City options could post some blistering scores in Gameweek 11.

Can Sterling escape the pitfalls of Pep Roulette this weekend?

The only issue, as ever, is picking the right one to captain, especially considering the usual rotation problems.

Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) appears to be the runaway favourite thus far after he scored 11 points against Aston Villa.

Prior to Gameweek 10, the England international had just one league goal between Gameweeks 4 and 9 but in his last five matches in all competitions for club and country he has rediscovered the golden touch.

Since England’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on October 11, Sterling has scored six times.

Whether or not Sterling suffers from Guardiola’s rotation roulette in Gameweek 11 probably remains up in the air though.

He has now started all three of Manchester City’s matches in all competitions since the last international break, registering 255 minutes from a possible 270 during that period.

Furthermore, alternatives in Sterling’s positions have had their fair share of rests in recent matches, which could seem them slot in.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.5m) has not had any involvement in either of the last two Premier League matches, so could be fresh and ready to go, while Bernardo Silva (£7.9m) was given the night off for the Champions League.

De Bruyne should be considered a reliable source of points – especially against Southampton

By contrast, Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) feels like a more assured starting figure given how Guardiola has managed his minutes of late.

Since returning from injury in Gameweek 9, the Belgian has played 90 minutes just once (against Crystal Palace), registering 67 minutes against Atalanta and 75 against Aston Villa.

De Bruyne continues to offer relative consistency when it comes to attacking returns.

His assist against Aston Villa was his 12th involvement in a Manchester City league goal this season, from 11 appearances.

Those who watched the win at Crystal Palace know that he was unlucky not to come away with any attacking points either.

Not surprisingly, de Bruyne remains top of the league for key passes in 2019/20, so his chances of delivering against Southampton look good.

Aguero may still form part of the captaincy debate for Gameweek 11

Despite another no-show in Gameweek 10, Sergio Aguero (£12.1m) should probably remain a factor in the captaincy debate.

If he looks like starting against Southampton then a double-figure score is a distinct possibility.

Across his last four Premier League starts, Aguero has been particularly busy in the penalty box and showed a return to his ruthless streak against Atalanta.

Even Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) may be considered by some brave folk on the back of three attacking returns since Gameweek 7.

Those even braver managers looking past Manchester City’s appealing fixture might consider the Liverpool options in Gameweek 11.

A trip to Aston Villa could still prove fruitful to Jurgen Klopp’s men considering their record against the top-six since returning to the Premier League.

In three such matches this season, Dean Smith’s side have conceded three times on every occasion.

Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) and Sadio Mané (£11.8m) may then join the captaincy debate in some small way, although we do expect the latest poll to be overrun with Manchester City options.

You can vote in the poll below and also watch our latest video on YouTube.

IF Kun plays tonight & Sterling is rested, would this be a smart switch around? 2FTs, 0ITB.

    Kun+Dendonk >> Sterling(C)+Greenwood

    Pope
    TAA • Lunds • Tomori
    KDB • Mount • Mané • Maddison
    Kun • Tammy • Wilson
    (McG. Söy. Rico. Dendo)

Same moves I’ll make but with Connolly if I’m forced but I’d rather hold if I can as I’ve used my 2FT already!

I'm still leaning on seeing it out until after the weekend, but of course that move works okay long run if you are fine about Gwood as a dud 3rd bencher. Shame you didn't have another transfer to have Tielemans over Mads! Bit of cash would be handy.
Are you planning on another pool after 12 or just stick?

I was going to save but im starting to get some ideas.. Which option is the best:

    A) save
    B) Digne > Mendy (and bench Soy)
    C) Wilson > Rashford

    Ryan
    Soyuncu - TAA - Lundstram
    Mount - Maddison - Sterling - KDB
    Wilson - Vardy - Abraham
    (Digne, Lascelles, Dendoncker)

Seems as those shouting down Martial as an asset are those who are in a rigid 3-4-3 structure or even 3-5-2 who can’t quite reach his asking price of 7.6

The most important piece of his appeal is that he is classed as a midfielder playing up top for a top 6 team. Now it’s easy to say United don’t fit the bill this season to finish in this position, but let’s be serious.. they WILL finish top 6. Regardless of where they may finish on the ladder what needs to be remembered that he is the best possible OOP player in the game, even better than Lundstram.

Now let’s look at his averages over the past few seasons; 10 goals 5 assists seems to be his level in just 1600 minutes due to injury. Extrapolated to 3000 minutes which is what most of the big boys play he would be looking at approximately 235 points based on these numbers. 235 points!

My advice would be to jump on board whilst he is fit and firing. The schedule over the next 5 is glorious: bou, BHA, shu, AVL, TOT. After City their schedule continues to be positive all the way up until late January.

His ownership currently sits at just 4.4%, not only making him the ultimate differential but his price will absolutely rocket with any further attacking returns. Just a 10% jump in ownership ensures a 0.1 rise and starting on such low numbers makes his price very very volatile.

Furthermore, the Frenchmen is yet to blank (not including the 6 minute post injury run out against Liverpool) and there is a reason why the man Mark Sutherns has held him this entire time!

Its just that Dilva and Willian are just better picks right now. And Mark is 1m+ rank, not sure if he is taking the game as seriously this season.

Yet they have scored less goals than Burnley and Aston Villa. x stats can be deceiving and should only be used as one of the variables amongst many.

Guys, I can see the two sides of the arguments. Agree to disagree? Interesting debate, but this season is in general the stats are struggling to be 'sole' reliable indicators for decision making ... let's see where the points go! 😉

Exactly what I said though. Can't go based on expected stats (see: Vardy). United scoring less goals than Villa and Burnley having had a very high xG all season is damning evidence.

If he manages to play 3000 minutes, and scores 235 points, United will win the league and that is not possible.

I agree here. OK for a punt if you fancy him.
But to stay that he the standout differential and best OOP in the game etc is premature. Going based on xG, Mark owning him, him having not blanked yet (not sustainable, see Kun, Auba) etc is premature.

        I hear what you’re saying.
        I’ve not bashed Martial myself.
He just doesn’t appeal to me.

Saying that, I own Maddison and he’s not appealing to me either. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to straight swap to Martial. I’m not certain regardless if I would make that move. I think it’s because it’s United - like Spurs, them two are teams to stay away from right now. IMO

All could change next gameweek if United plays well and Martial hauls. Then I will need to reconsider ways to get him in.

      Got a problem.

      Pope (Button)
      TAA - Boly* - Soy - Lundstram - Rico
      Sterling - KdB - Mane - Mount - Cantwell*
      Abraham - Vardy - Wickham

      1FT 1.7m itb.

Clearly Cantwell and Boly have to go.

If want to get Martial in I should to gowngrade Boly to 4.0mil, which is not probably smart.

So probably Cantwell have to go first and forget Martial. Whos coming in? Too many good options.

      A) CHO (huge rotation risk and have already Mount and Abraham)
      B) Yarmolenko
      C) Tielemans
      D) Boly to 3.9 and get Martial for a hit.
      E) Someone else?

D would mean 2 non playing sub and Rico/Lundstram have to play every week.

I'm in a similar situation but with aubameyang, I rolled last week so I have 2 frees to use. My long term plan is to get TAA & Robertson in for Alonso & Ota but that won't happen until City at the earliest, if not it will be the week after. I'm tempted to use one FT for Aubameyang - Firmino, the other option is Auba & Cantwell for Martial & Connolly.

I like your proposed transfers, it's certainly an aggressive move. Wilson and Bournemouth seem to have gone off the boil and Maddison will keep ticking away.

Leicester players have been one of the main reasons I'm up from 990k to 78k in the last 5 weeks. Vardy and Soyuncu have really delivered points in quiet weeks. I could go without a Leicester midfielder quite easily but they complement each other so well, the team is firing on all cylinders and their fixtures are great. The stars are aligning, if you don't have Leicester you will get left behind!

Not sure what happened to the rest of my post, I wrote a big long Leicester love-in!.

Basically if you think they will keep scoring then it's not too late to get on the bandwaggon. They have City and Liverpool in 18 & 19. Other than that the only bad fixture up until 25 is Chelsea. I think they could realistically come 3rd or 4th and will be good value throughout the season.

                  Soyuncu: 8.2% owned
                  Maddison: 15%
                  Tielemans: 6.1%
                  Vardy: 21.1%

2 weeks ago it felt like everyone was posting teams on here with Mahrez in them. Last week everyone seemed to have Hudson-Odoi. This week everyone seems to be bringing in Martial...

Do people actually cycle through a lot of these bandwagon picks, or is it that people only post their teams when they are making moves that are in vogue?

Martial more of a pre-bandwagon rather than CHO and Mahrez which people were bringing in after their hauls

Get him in, if you have a decent bench. He starts when fit & if he doesn't he's at such a price point, that it won't hurt you getting points off the bench.

They're are not many better players for FPL in the same price bracket.

I'd put Mount & Maddison above him in the under 7.5 bracket.

I’m just trying to work out what’s going on. I see very few teams posted with failed bandwagons in them (of course you see some). But logically there should be as many people with CHO in their teams this week as had him last week, unless they’ve shipped already. See what I mean?

It’s always due to last week’s points. It drives the popularity.

Tbf, I saw a few people saying they’d get Martial last week vs Norwich. Now that he scored and could easily have had a hattrick, all the sheep follow.

It’ll be the same next week if Maupay does well, or Mahrez vs Southampton.

        I don’t own but...

It’s a difficult one. Pep said Jesus played the last games because he’d been playing regular minutes. Whereas Kun was rusty....

The only Man City player I will consider buying while Pep is manager will be Ederson.

      No exceptions.

I appreciate that this will exclude me from many top assets, but I have come to the conclusion that you simply cannot second guess Pep. Ever.

Seen some posts along the lines of “if Aguero plays in the cup midweek, I’m selling”, the inference being Jesus then starts in the Prem at the weekend. There’s a mountain of evidence that goes against that.

This week is different to last week. Last week, Jesus had a goal a game record and was looking incredibly sharp. This week vs Villa he stuttered.

Aguero was given 90 mins at home to Wolves and looked out of sorts, firing in just 3 shots, all off target. He then misses the Palace game.

If Aguero starts vs Southampton in the cup, it’s a good sign. It gives a player form and momentum going into the weekend. Pep regularly rotated players this way.

Only sell Aguero this week if he has a stinker vs Southampton in the cup. Don’t sell him because he starts that game.

I sold Aguero last week because I couldn’t trust captaining him. The main reason being the form of Jesus.

If I still had Aguero now I’d watch the Southampton cup game and re-assess.

Leaning that way now too. Wilson to Jimenez feels the safer option, but very tempted by Wilson to Connolly this week (have 2FT), and then a planned Dendo to Martial next week along with Aguero to Vardy.

Whats the verdict on when to WC? i was initially planning to WC in gw13 and triple up on liverpool but is there a massive fixture swing for some other teams? i could WC in gw17/18 but its difficult to WC over xmas period as rotation is a bit crazy so difficult to plan things.

Team is as follows with an initial view to bring in either martial or vardy this gw for a hit
          Pope -- Heaton
Taa Lundy Digne -- Tomori Rico
Sterling Kdb Dilva Mount -- Cantwell
          Pukki Tammy Rashford

I still think GW13 could be a good time for you - get some liverpool attack in, ditch a city player, would also ditch digne tbh

Close. So whhichever move saves you money to invest elsewhere.

Decent attack, but that defense could surprise you, in not such a good way.

Yeah I am gonna downgrade Auba in a few weeks time and upgrade that defense to TAA and Robertson

Will try and roll an FT this week and will thereafter chose between

Auba & CHO > Firmino & Martial OR Connoly & Mane

Leaning towards the latter as I'd feel intensely relaxed with the (C) on Mane, while significantly less so on Bobby F

Is the following worth it for a hit?

          Auba + Cantwell + C Wilson > Vardy + KDB + Connolly

          Cheers

Yes - You'll want the latter two for Southampton and Norwich games

Bit stumped on what to do this week:

          Pope (Button)
          VVD - Ota - Lundstram - Rico - Tomori
De Bruyne - Sterling - Mount - James - Mcginn
          Vardy - Abraham - King

          1FT, 3.6 itb
          A) King --> Maupay
          B) King --> Connoly
          C) Ota --> Chillwell / Soyuncu
          D) Pope --> A better GK!
          E) James --> Yarmalenko
          F) Save

          On WC:

          A) Martial Lascelles Lundstram (Rico Connolly) Play 352
          B) Jimenez Soyuncy Tomori (Lundstram Dendon) Play 343

B looks more balanced, A more punty with a really cheap defence but the way this season is going...

          Rest of the team:
          Pope (Button)
          TAA ___ ___ (___ cheap 3.9)
          Sterling Mane KdB Mount ___
          Vardy Tammy ___

Wish Spurs would get their shtick together - an in form Son is fantastic to own and I’d love to put him in ahead of Maddison
